Mendietta!
This little girl is now 7mo old and growing fast! For the most part, things are going well with her and we have some issues we need to continue to work through. Mendietta’s life started in a backyard with her littermates and she didn’t have the greatest start as a pup. She is lucky to have such committed owners who love her dearly and want her to be successful.

Honey can hear things going on in another state! 📡
We had a great session yesterday. Since she was cleared to go on walks, we got to do her first neighborhood walk and it was lovely. We ran into new things such as the fire hydrant which concerned her.
When puppies encounter things they are concerned about, I like to make it into a fun opportunity to go investigate it. Some puppies are super cautious and don’t want to get close and that’s fine, we can look at it from a distance and move at a pace that’s comfortable for them. For Honey once I walked over to it, she followed me and her concerns went away. She was even brave enough to put her paws on it 😁

Really impressed with Carson and his progression with his leash reactivity. When I first met Carson and his owner, we discussed the methods they tried and had no success with. Now after multiple coaching sessions with me he has made huge progress and his owner has made great progress with her handling skills and understanding better how to work with Carson.

One of my favorite things about Leo is his crate skills. He always crates up with no hesitation, and before I even get the car started, I can hear him in the back snoring 😴 He always looks so comfortable.

A few weeks ago Gambit and I went out to Tracy to take our UKC SPOT test. It’s very similar to the AKC CGC test but with a few differences. We passed and earned our Spot-On certification which means we passed each exercise with an outstanding rating. It was a fun experience and since I'm a spot evaluator, I will be adding testing services to those who are interested! The second picture isn’t the best quality but shows what you are tested on and the rating scale.

Establishing good leash manners can be difficult for dogs. Leashes restrict them from going to say hello to that human, sniffing that dog, eating something off the ground…the list can go on!
As with most dog training, consistency is important. We discussed in our session together how consistency also gives the dog clarity of what’s expected of them on leash. By providing clear communication in our training, we are also being fair to the dog. Good session with Rosie and her owner and I look forward to the next round!

The professional looking pics are done by the very talented photographer . In addition to taking some Halloween pics of him, we also did a photo shoot of Gambit for his 5th birthday. I will treasure them forever. I have to always show them, so I added a few here. Definitely check her out if you are wanting some quality photos of your dog.

Doris and her owner recently finished up their training program with us. She is a super fun dog and it was great to work with them. She’s also a very interesting mix, I had guessed terrier mix but she has no terrier in her!

What a very cold but fun day yesterday!
Gambit and I finished up our rally obedience side quest with a new title, rally novice! with a perfect score of 100. So proud of this dog, I saw so many good things from him yesterday. I love him so much.
Rally obedience is super fun and I encourage anyone who is interested to go watch a trial, take a rally class and if you want, go trial! It’s a good starting point to the other AKC venues. UKC also offers rally if your dog isn’t registered through AKC.

We are also happy to report that Antonetta, Matza and Jake earned their CGC recently. We have a great group of folks working towards their CGC and the more advanced levels of the program. So thrilled for their accomplishments and hard work. I look forward to what else they accomplish.

Gambit and I took our CGCA test recently and passed! We had a fantastic time with our evaluator and he made it such a smooth experience. The CGC tests can be a great introduction to doing other cool things with your dog! We encourage everyone to check it out.

Gambit and I played in AKC rally obedience today (I like to think of it as a side quest 😁) Today we earned our 2nd novice leg with a score of 100 points. I’m completely over the moon about it and so proud of Gambit and us as a team.
I also got to volunteer with the Mt. Diablo Dog Training Club as a rally ring steward. It was super fun to watch all the teams and help out. They always put together such great trials!

Filled an empty egg carton with food to see what Gambit thought about it. I think at first he was a little unsure on how to get it open but once he dropped it and food came out, It was a little easier for him to figure out. Ravens owners reported that she was starting to feel a uncomfortable around horses. Since they live by horse stables, a part of our session was helping raven feel more comfortable around passing the horses. Recall with Raven. I wanted to add a distraction into the mix (Gambit) since her owner reported that when she’s around distractions, her recall can be slow. As you can see, Raven was pretty into running with Gambit and I had to prompt her more than once when calling her back to me. I wasn’t expecting Raven to be perfect out the gate and when your first working on recall, things can start out rocky as your showing your dog the “picture” of recall. As the session went on she became more responsive to us calling her and would check in on her own. ….. I want to condition Gambit to a muzzle. I don’t have a specific reason, but could come handy in a case of a emergency. We just started today, I’m saying “yes” when Gambit sticks his face in the muzzle.
