Canine Centric Dog training that is not about force or fear but is fun for all, and thoroughly modern and innovativ

Our dog training program involves an intimate understanding of your dog's individual history. Your dog has plenty of potential to learn and understand commands, and our techniques will lay the foundation for you to build upon. We combine your needs and wants with the natural abilities of your dog.

Shasta has departed to the rainbow bridge.

Shasta was an OG Canine Centric dog. I met her in 2016 as a wild child who has just been adopted. She had no manners 😂 and was reactive. She went from a training dog to soon joining me for walks.

Over the years, Shasta turned into the a great dog. When I think of a GSD I always think about her as the standard. She lived quite a life. Her many adventures with her family camping, trail hikes and rock climbing to name a few. She had two young humans who she loved unconditionally and wanted to extend that love to the many littles that we encountered on our walks. I had to always tell her “those aren’t your kids.”

I never had to worry about Shasta, besides when she wanted to chase a squirrel or coyote 😂 she found Gambit annoying as a pup but dealt with his shenanigans while teaching him the ways of trail and pack life. Shasta and Iroc were always in charge of everyone when we hiked.

I will miss her terribly. I got to say goodbye to her and I still can’t believe I won’t see her anymore. She was one of the “founding” dogs of Canine Centric and taught me a lot as a new dog trainer and walker. My heart is broken. I find comfort in knowing she’s out of pain and failing health. I hope her and Iroc find each other as they enjoyed hiking together. I want to thank Shastas owners for years of trusting me with their precious girl. I will cherish my memories of her.

Rest easy Shasta 🩷

A few weeks ago Canine Centric got to help Pido (Point Isabel Dog Owners) group hold their annual Canine Good Citizen Testing! It was a wonderful experience and I’m so glad we got the opportunity. So many great teams! We look forward to helping with next year’s event! We appreciate PIDO and all that they do.

Leo the Welsh Terrier pup.

With some Terriers (and pups in general) they are really good with getting excited, but they have a hard time with settling down. In this picture, Leo made a great choice by choosing to settle after playing with a nice bone. This is something we want to continue to reinforce.

I love terriers! They are so smart and fun to work with.

Gambit showing off his very fancy ribbons from our last obedience trial. We earned our CD (companion dog) title a few weeks ago in Nevada.

It takes a lot of trial prep and nerves to go into a ring and perform. There were a lot of great teams to watch, which keeps me inspired!

Mendietta!

This little girl is now 7mo old and growing fast! For the most part, things are going well with her and we have some issues we need to continue to work through. Mendietta’s life started in a backyard with her littermates and she didn’t have the greatest start as a pup. She is lucky to have such committed owners who love her dearly and want her to be successful.

Honey can hear things going on in another state! 📡

We had a great session yesterday. Since she was cleared to go on walks, we got to do her first neighborhood walk and it was lovely. We ran into new things such as the fire hydrant which concerned her.

When puppies encounter things they are concerned about, I like to make it into a fun opportunity to go investigate it. Some puppies are super cautious and don’t want to get close and that’s fine, we can look at it from a distance and move at a pace that’s comfortable for them. For Honey once I walked over to it, she followed me and her concerns went away. She was even brave enough to put her paws on it 😁

Really impressed with Carson and his progression with his leash reactivity. When I first met Carson and his owner, we discussed the methods they tried and had no success with. Now after multiple coaching sessions with me he has made huge progress and his owner has made great progress with her handling skills and understanding better how to work with Carson.
