Throwback Thursday! On August 22, 2018, Recess4Rover had its official ribbon cutting! We had been in business for 9 months, and after joining The Chamber of Commerce, we decided to make it official. In thinking back over that special day and looking at these pictures today, I am filled with so much gratitude and thankfulness at the provision, the blessings, the new (and some old) friends, and especially the precious pups we get to see day in and day out. Many of these pups have crossed the rainbow bridge, and some are still our clients, but the love that is shown to us daily by both canines and humans keeps us going! This business was birthed from a difficult time in our lives, as most great things are, and we will never forget God’s goodness to us. Thank you from the bottoms of our hearts to our past and to our present R4R families. We love you all! Tina and David ♥️🐾💙

Have you ever had a dog that seemed to know when you or a family member needed love, compassion, a physical touch, or just his presence? That was Rufus. This sweet and much loved 15 year old rescue belonged to another sweet and much loved angel, Amy Trice. Amy was the long time founder/owner of Hot Diggity Doggie Camp. Rufus actually first belonged to someone else, who “forgot” to come pick Rufus up after his stay at HDD. 😳 When Amy realized that Rufus was officially abandoned, she knew what she would need to do. You see, Amy’s beloved dad had recently died, and one day while working at camp, something remarkable happened. I’ll let Amy tell it:
“I had just lost my Dad and was just sitting in a chair at the dog camp thinking about it all. Rufus came over and climbed in my lap and kept climbing until he reached my shoulder. He turned his head and touched my cheek with his cheek. He knew…. Rufus had empathy.”
Needless to say, Rufus became part of Amy’s family that day- lucky dog! Rufus also gave emotional support to Amy’s other dog, Kelly, during thunderstorms and loud noises. Oh that we would all be so lucky to have a Rufus in our life!
Rufus crossed the rainbow bridge on Friday, July 19, and we miss him so! 😢 Amy calls him remarkable, empathetic, and one of the most special dogs she has ever known (and she has known A LOT of dogs!) We at Recess4Rover are so very thankful that we got to walk him and love him. Rest in peace, little buddy! Amy Trice

Look how happy our girl, Roxie, is!! That’s because she got the all clear from her orthopedic specialist, Dr. Dismukes, to resume life as normal after her ACL surgery! 👏👏 We’re so happy to see our sweet girl again! We sure missed her!

Meet Lillie and Lulu! Both rescues belonging to Maureen and Ed Shotts, Lillie is a 4 year old beagle mix, and Lulu is a year old hound mix. Dave has been walking Lillie and Lulu for several months now. They really deserve a trophy for Most Improved Walkers! The first few times when they walked Dave, I mean when Dave walked them- he had to stop and untie himself at least twice per block. Lulu was especially talented — she earned a merit badge for knot-tying! And it took Lillie a while to figure out the cause-and-effect relationship between lunging and choking -— but she finally got it! And Dave just loves the joyful noise these two girls make from inside their house every time he steps out of his car! It’s so nice to be loved! 🥰🥰

Happy 1️⃣1️⃣th Birthday, Jasper!! 🎈💙We all know those dogs who leave that special mark on our lives, the ones we will never forget, and the ones that make us smile every time we think of them!! That’s our Jasper. This sweet guy was a client of Recess4Rover for 7 wonderful years. Then his dad had to go take a new job last year and move to Tyler, Texas. I mean, really?? 😉 But no matter how far away they are, we will always remember and celebrate one of the best dogs around! We love and miss you, Jasper (and Dad, Greg)! Greg Richmond David B. Truhett

DOG CARETAKERS NEEDED
Humane Society of West Alabama Dog Adoption Facility
WANTED: Dog lovers who can take on daily care of 8-10 animals (currently) at HSWA facility, and up to 30 dogs once the facilities are fully operational next year. This is a live-in position ONLY. Caretakers live rent-free in the house on the property. Once all HSWA facilities are constructed and fully operational (mid 2025), then a $500 monthly stipend will be paid and shared among the caretakers. Location is near Exit 77 Buttermilk Road.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
• Daily feeding, cleaning/sanitizing of indoor and outdoor kennel areas
• Sweeping, mopping, and general cleaning of all dog areas (isolation, main kennel area, storage areas)
• Daily p**p scooping of all play yards
• Driving to and from nearby vet clinic as needed
• Administering medicines as needed
• Supervising community service group work visits
• Playing with and loving on the dogs
APPLICANTS MUST:
• Be dog savvy and understand body language of dogs. Caretakers must be capable of putting dogs in appropriate play groups, breaking up or deterring fights or rough play, watching for illness, and socializing dogs. Volunteers come over mid-day so dogs get exercise and have kennels cleaned.
• Be a household of two who know each other well and can work/live together. Prefer at least one person who is NOT working full time. Currently the job requires about 2-3 hours every morning, about two hours every evening for a minimum 30 to 35 hours per week.
• Be capable of the physicality of the job because applicants must be able to handle strong dogs. Prefer applicants with no children, but inside pets are OK (maximum of 4). Being handy with household repairs is a plus. Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
• Caretakers live on our property in a beautiful and spacious three-bedroom farmhouse with a bonus space, kitchen with updated appliances and 2.5 bathrooms. (Vaping/smoking of any kind inside the home or in other facilities of the property and/or illegal drug use is strictly prohibited.) Monthly scheduled checks of the caretaker home will be conducted by a HSWA representative. Caretakers live rent-free including water, electricity and gas. Caretakers supply internet/phone service.
Vacation time and training is provided. Caretakers are allotted one weekend off per month and 2 weeks of vacation time.
