I got so many questions about what happened to this poor pup so I’ve decided to post it!

This sweet angel was unfortunately bitten in the eye by her sister who is also a Shi Tzu. It happened due to her sister becoming territorial over food 🥩 . Even with her eye proptosed so severely, she continued to wag her tail, eat, and be the sweet pup she has always been. (Animals never cease to amaze me).The owners tried to schedule an enucleation when it happened, but were told there’s no availability until August. That’s when they showed up to our ER. Our team got going on this right away with starting antibiotics and pain medications, followed by the procedure of surgically removing the eye (enucleation). This was probably one of the most gratifying surgeries I’ve performed. She literally looked like she was smiling after we got that painful eye out.

And the good news is, animals do not rely on their vision nearly as much as we do. Rather, their scent is the primary way through which they take in the world. Luckily for her, she still has her other eye and plenty of scent glands to navigate the world 😊 🐶😎
