I’m happy to report that Batman’s medication for Acromegaly is working! We had a rough start, though. The first pill made him sick. We stopped for two weeks, and put him on Cerenia and Miritaz.
We tried again with only 1/2 of the capsule and that dose has gotten his diabetes under control. He’s down to four units of insulin from seven. AND he doesn’t always need it.
His glucose numbers are a bit unpredictable so he always needs to have a glucose monitor on. Of course, that means a trip to the vet every two weeks for a new monitor, but it’s worth it.
We wouldn’t have known about the Acromegaly if it weren’t for Dr Sinclair at Cat Sense in Bel Air. She is beyond supportive and responds to my daily email updates.
Thank you AARF for helping Batman live!
These are difficult times in rescue. We are struggling with returned animals, low adoptions, and overflowing shelters.
Please support your local animals in need. Their lives depend on it.

6/28/23 Nemo has been waiting 2 years for his forever home!

5/27/22 (Date of DCIN’s first post)
Nemo is nice!!

Nemo is a 9-year-old tuxedo boy (DOB 3/28/2014) who came to Chesapeake Cats and Dogs (Queenstown, Maryland) in rough shape. He is diabetic and got some dental work done, so he is happier now. He does have some dry skin and feels best when we keep his fur shaved down a bit.

Nemo likes to lounge in the sun and be petted and talked to. He is a sweet boy! He does okay with other cats as long as they give him his space and don’t try to eat his food. Can you give Nemo the purrfect home? Apply here to adopt: https://forms.gle/4U19x6VuytCXxUzn9

8/17/24 Cory needs you! The Sweetest 10 y/o Gentleman with Diabetes, needs Rescue ASAP! Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) Baltimore, Maryland!

Cory- 10 y/o, altered, male, 12 lbs

Cory came into the BARCS (Baltimore Animal rescue and Care Shelter Baltimore Maryland) shelter on 8/15 after being found abandoned after an eviction. Upon examination, vets noted that he had excess skin (appeared to have lost weight recently) and walked in a plantigrade state with tarsus on the ground, a posturing typically seen in diabetic cats. After testing, our vets confirmed that he is diabetic and started him on a M/D diet. Vets sent out urine for UA and will plan to recheck his spot blood glucose in a week. A full medical summary is available upon request.
Handsome gentleman Cory is in great spirits despite his current situation. He is always eager for pets and will purr away as you give him scritches. Cory is a social, tolerant sweetheart and will make a wonderful companion for anyone.
Cory will be available for rescue pickup at 6pm on 8/18, and due to his medical needs he is seeking rescue ASAP.

Please let BARCS know if your organization can help by emailing [email protected]! or [email protected] for rescues

When we asked Snow's foster about him, she told us "Snow is a rubber." 😳

We needed an explanation or some context clues or something, and this is what we found out:

He likes to rub against other cats.
He likes to rub against your legs.
He likes his belly rubbed.
He likes to wrestle.
He loves to snuggle.

Basically, this 1 year old fella's love language is physical touch - and with his soft fur and gorgeous yellow-green eyes, we guarantee you're not going to be able to resist putting your paws on him. Other hobbies include climbing his cat tree, cat toys, and wet food.

Snow would love a home with other cat-friendly, affectionate cats. If you think that belly looks incredibly rubbable, you know what to do - apply today! https://animalalliesrescue.org/adopt/cats-available-for-adoption/

5/29/24 Urgent rehome for Ferguson, diabetic cat in College Park, Maryland. Needs a home by July 20th!!! There may be some leeway on that but not much!!!

Ferguson is a 10 year old male with diabetes in College Park, Maryland. He currently takes bexacat once daily for diabetes and the pill has been more beneficial than insulin was.

His person is moving and has listed him on a rehoming website. It is a time crunch as she is moving into a shared living space. Ferguson is very cuddly and loves to be petted and held by people. He does not seem to prefer other cats, but he did grow to tolerate another cat once she learned to stop trying to play with him.

Ferguson is very outgoing. He loves people and he loves cuddling. He is very people oriented, the kind of cat who will follow you around the house. To the point where it could be a tripping hazard for an elderly person, just fyi. According to the previous owner (7 years ago) he did not get along with dogs. His person also doesn’t think he loves other cats and feels like he may be best as an only pet. However, that may be changing a bit now that he is doing well on bexacat. It is unknown how he is with small children, but he does get a little aggressively playful if pet in ways he doesn’t like. He is currently eating turkey fancy feast and no dry food.

Please email ASAP [email protected] if you are falling in love!!

***Please keep comments and emails civil and directed towards finding Ferguson a new home!*** ~Lisa

💔We need your help💔 Almost 6 weeks after their first plea, we haven't received any inquiries to adopt Rusty and Dusty, bonded brothers whose selfless owner is in failing health. She will not be able to care for her beloved kitties for much longer, and is "fostering" them with AARF in hopes of finding them a new, forever home before that time comes.

Rusty and Dusty are 6 years old, bonded, well mannered, and must go to a home with no other pets.

👉Please share their story - and the story of their loving owner prioritizing their needs first - and help us find their new forever home.

[Original Post]

“It is very difficult to have to give up Rusty and Dusty as they are such a loving comfort. But when something happens to an owner, loved companions get lost in the shuffle.

“I promised to see them well-homed, well before that happens.”
💔💔💔

Rusty and Dusty are inseparable, twin 6 year old brothers who have lived together their entire lives after being adopted from AARF as kittens. They are doted on by and bring tremendous joy to their owner. Sadly, for health reasons, she knows that she will not be able to care for them much longer. Last month she contacted AARF and asked if she could surrender her cats back to AARF, sponsoring any routine medical care - but foster them until we help her find their new forever family.

❤️Our goal is to help Rusty and Dusty find that perfect match as soon as possible, so that their mom has the peace of mind they’re in a home as loving as hers, before she can no longer care for them.❤️

Below is Rusty and Dusty’s story, as “transcribed” by their owner:
“My name is Rusty & I am going to tell you a little bit about the life my brother & twin, Dusty share with someone we love very much. Sadly, her failing health will not allow her to care for us until the end of our life journey. She has promised that her last and best gift will be to see us placed in a loving forever home.

“At 6 years old, we are in the prime of life (meaning we sleep/cat-nap in our various favorite spots an average of 20 hrs per day). During our waking hours we really enjoy a rousing game of Ambush & Chase, which our mom finds hilarious even if it is sometimes in the middle of the night. She is so happy that we sleep with her, and doesn’t even mind getting woken up in the wee hours for our daily snack of Friskies shreds.

“We love wrestling with each other as much as we love hanging out with our mom, sitting in a recliner with her or dozing on the cat perches beside her are some of our favorite moments in our day.

“As proper gentlemen we are fastidious with personal hygiene and are happy to share a generous size stainless steel litter box. All of our worldly possessions & supplies come with us to help settle in with our new family, which will ideally be calm, quiet, and have no other pets.”

🐱 🐱

Rusty and Dusty are in good health. They must be adopted together, into a home with no other pets. Their belongings will be provided to their new home.

❤️While bittersweet, our hearts are warmed by how lovingly Rusty and Dusty’s owner is prioritizing their long-term care. ❤️

👉If you think that Rusty and Dusty could fit into your home, please apply today - or share this post to help us find that special, forever family they deserve. https://animalalliesrescue.org/adopt/cats-available-for-adoption/

Raven is Rad!

Adopt Raven! This sweet, friendly, and snuggly 6-year old boy came to Feline Rescue Association (Owings Mills, Maryland) after a plea from a Maryland shelter with only hours to spare before he was scheduled for euthanasia due to his diabetes diagnosis -- a condition which can be fully managed with diet and insulin shots twice a day. But thankfully FRA was able to get him transferred into a foster home to get the care he needed.

Raven is such an angel and sits still for his shots and blood glucose readings. He makes it so easy and has been incredibly patient while his foster - who had never given a shot or cared for a diabetic cat - quickly learned to care for him. And he will help his lucky adopters as well. Caring for a diabetic cat is easy to learn - especially with a 5-star patient like Raven. It only requires a fairly regular schedule to accommodate shots. With the help of diet and insulin shots twice a day, Raven's blood glucose is in the range of a normal, healthy cat and he's enjoying life to the fullest. There's even a chance that he could go into remission if his diabetes is managed well.

Due to a food allergy, he will need to be on a special novel protein diet (rabbit), which he has thrived on. They are so glad that this sweet, patient boy came to FRA. He's had an unfortunate start in life after losing his first home. But he has not lost faith in humanity. He is the absolute sweetest, snuggliest and most patient boy who deserves a second chance at life and with a wonderful adopter. The world is better with him in it, and so could be yours... if you're willing to give sweet Raven a home of his own.
Besides his diabetes diagnosis, Raven has a clean medical record and is up-to-date on his shots. He is neutered and has perfect litter box habits. He is very agreeable and gentle and gets along with other cats and would be good with kids. Raven quickly warms up to new people. But he'd also be happy to have a human all to himself. He is ready to snuggle with you in his very own home.

You must be in love with Raven already! So, check out the adoption process here: https://www.baltimorecats.org/info/adoption what are you waiting for?
