Our goats Tupac and Biggie are an integral part of the EG crew and operation. As part of the ecosystem, their high nitrogen compost can be used fresh (unlike horse compost that requires aging) and goes a long way to healing the soil and land. Regenerative agriculture is what's up.

According to Roberto, farm workers’ low wages, lack of access, and absence of economic opportunities result from a system that prioritizes profits over people. EDFH's model enables more profits to reach farm workers by eliminating middlemen and reimagining distribution.

Denver Business Journal interviewed Dave Demerling and Roberto Meza, the co-founders and co-owners of Emerald Gardens and its sister organization, East Denver Food Hub!
The pandemic definitely hit both organizations hard. Customers like restaurants shut down and therefore could not purchase anymore. While things looked bleak, the team refused to shut down and doubled their focus supporting local farmers and communities, including people of color and under-resourced communities. And so far, that work has paid off. Today, the Food Hub employs nine full-time and four part-time employees. Likewise, Emerald Gardens employs one full-time employee and recruited a BIPOC-owned farm - Sugarmoon Mushrooms - to grow on its land. It is incredible to see the support from people like you, showing us that people want this, and we look forward to continuing this work through this pandemic and beyond.

Supporting communities of color and people in need leads to a new East Denver venture.
This past Friday the fine folks at , .sun, and visited for a Community Day of Connection and Action and Sovereignty. We worked, we celebrated, and we ate a meal together. This is what food sovereignty looks like.
TODAY! Take action now, call your legislators to support SB87 to give basic rights to the farm workers who grow the food we eat! The bill is likely to go to the legislature tonight!
