This perfect gentleman is Prince 👑 🎸 Tonight, he’s gonna party like it’s 1999 or maybe he just wants to be your lover… one thing for certain, he only wants to see you laughing in the purple rain 💜

He’s been at KCHA for over 100 days waiting for a chance to get out! He’s not been adopted or fostered during that time 🥺

Prince plays well with other playful dogs & gets along great with kids and people! He’s 56 pounds & does great with a harness on leash! 🥰

Interested in giving Prince the break he deserves? Check out our Borrow-A-Buddy program! You can take Prince anywhere from a couple of hours to a long weekend! You can get us pictures & tell us all about Prince from a one on one standpoint to hopefully help get him adopted! Just yesterday a long term resident found his home from his fosters posts on social media! ✨

Are you looking for a dog who plays for 5 minutes, then melts into a puddle? 😂

If yes to all of the above - both of these dogs would love to love you! They don't have to go together and didn't come in together - they're just pals!

Iris (black and white): She is 3 years old, 67lbs. Super relaxed and sweet!

Munchkin (all black): He's 2 years old, 57lbs. But looking at him you'd think he was like 40! He's just got the muscles 💪

Tucked in, dreaming of a home to love them 🥺

Another evening for our sweet shelter pets to not spend their evening with a family, getting snacks, playing in some grass, or snoozing on a couch.

We want to find them homes to love them - all 423 currently in our care, and the thousands more we'll help in the future! ❤️

Can't adopt but want to help? There are so many other ways to support these sweeties!

- Borrow-a-Buddy! Take a dog out for the day, just have them back before we close. It does so much good for their mental health to have a day of fun away from the shelter ❤️

- Foster! Foster is for a fun time, not a long time 😉 One night, a weekend, a couple of weeks? That helps us see how they do in a home environment to better match people to pets!

- Volunteer! Walk a dog on our trail, prep treats for the animals to enjoy while they call our shelter home 🥺

- Donate supplies! Even a roll of paper towels makes a difference. Purina food, wet food of any kind, toys, linens - we'll use it all to make their stay at the shelter better ❤️

- Spread the word! You never know who on your friends list may fall in love with a pet they see from you sharing 🥰 It just happened today for one of our longest residents - he found a home because his foster posted about him!

Thank you all for loving these animals. We sure do too, and we just want them to feel the love every day ❤️🐾

Danny 😍 I could write a whole book 📚 on how good Danny is, but I'll try to keep it short & sweet!

The facts:
☀ 2 years old, 46lbs

☀ Knows sit, lay, down, shake!

☀ Doesn't seem to lick much. He will cuddle with you but won't slobber on ya!

☀ Very neat and tidy. He isn't messy when he eats, drinks, or plays!

☀ Great with kids! Very gentle and tolerant of them running around him.

☀ Great with all other dogs he's met so far - small puppies to other big dogs, he's very sweet to them all!

☀ Housebroken and will tell you when he needs to go potty! He tippy taps and whines by the door to let you know.

☀ He came in as a stray, so we don't know history on cats. He is so calm and well-mannered that he will likely do just fine with slow intros to a resident kitty!

☀ Walks incredibly well on a leash 🐕

☀ Very handsome (obviously 😎)

☀ Looks like a tiger but is actually a dog 😉

Danny has been at the shelter for over 30 days. He's an incredibly good dog, we know he will make someone a fantastic companion. Come on up and meet him! You'll be glad you did ❤🐾

Homer needs a little help from his friends 🥺

Homer is a 9 month old male who is about 45 lbs. He is having a really hard time at the shelter and is extremely stressed 🥺

We've tried anxiety meds, increasing his enrichment, and moving him to a bigger, quieter kennel - and Homer continues to be extremely stressed out 💔

He really needs a break from shelter life.

We will pack the bags if you can provide the time and love ❤️

About Homer:
- Super friendly and playful!
- In his previous foster home he did great with other playful dogs and kids 🥰
- They even said he did great in the car and just wanted to snuggle and watch tv 🥹

This guy needs a chance. Even a slumber party or foster for a few days to let him rest!

We're hiring! 🥰😸😊

The way animal welfare is across the nation - we're going to stay busy constantly now. We want to expand our team to keep up with all our sweet shelter pets!

We're hiring for a few more folks in Animal Care team ❤️

The Animal Care Department, led by our Behaviorist Julie, is responsible for daily care and well-being!

This job is active, on your feet most of the day, making sure the shelter animals have their best possible stay while they wait to find a home 🥺

It's a big job but the Animal Care team rises to the challenge daily 💪🏼

This position is part-time, up to 30 hours per week. Starting pay is $11/hr!

Does anyone have room in their heart & home for a little old man?

This is Ren - he was transferred into our care from the amazing team at the Kanawha Valley Veterinary Emergency Hospital ❤️‍🩹

Despite his senior status, he still toddles around with the best of them! He's certainly partially blind, but he's still quite outgoing and ready to go for a walk!

He's only 20lbs, so he doesn't do big walks, but he still loves to get out and sniff around 🥹 After his walkies, he's ready for a nap 😴

This old fella wants a comfy place to spend his golden years ☀️ Come give him a chance!

He's available for adoption, Borrow-a-Buddy, overnight foster, or foster-to-adopt! ❤️🐾

🆘 We currently have 405 animals 😔

With so many animals and a variety of needs - from the teeniest of kittens like this guy to the big, bouncy kennel dogs - we are using supplies like CRAZY to keep these babies happy ❤️

🚨 Here are our biggest needs right now:

🐶 Wet dog food, any brand

😸 Wet cat/kitten food, any brand

🐶 Purina Puppy chow (light blue bag)

🐶 Purina Dog Chow (green & black bags)

🐶 Stainless steel water buckets & bowls

🧺 Laundry detergent

🧼 Dawn dish soap

We have our wishlists in the comments! I tried to add bulk options + smaller, less-expensive options! Even a small container of Dawn makes a difference 🥹

Chewy is the better option (wishlist price-wise) for dry dog food. It's also available at Sam's Club for a great deal & Sam's delivers to us ❤️

Or shop local with Green's Feed & Seed Charleston - they deliver to us too 🐾

We are grateful for any help to keep our shelter animals happy and loved! ❤️

Eli is one of our long-term residents - he's been waiting 235 days for a home to love him 😭

He first came to us after his owner was arrested. He had to be caught in a trap and brought in because he was so scared, he wouldn't go to anyone. 💔 he was lonely, confused, and very uncertain.

Now, Eli loves to love! 😍 He can still be a bit scared of strangers, but if you give him a minute to adjust he warms up quickly. He's great in playgroups and plays well with male and female dogs 🐕

He went into foster care this spring after the Uhaul crash, and he successfully lived with other dogs and cats in the home! 😻

Eli's biggest thing is to give him a chance. He's proven, time and time again, how good he is - if you'll just give him the opportunity to show you! ❤🐾

Eli is 3.5 years old, 55lbs, neutered, and very healthy! His adoption fee has been sponsored so he is $0 to take home with you ☺️ he can also be fostered or go out for a borrow-a-buddy day trip!

Greta had the most fun on her day out!

She went out with our staff member, Madison. She did so well on the car ride, and went back to Maddie's house to hang out with her crew.

There, we discovered Greta is very gentle and sweet to cats, too! We already knew she was great with dogs, so this was a huge bonus!

Greta came to us nursing a little of puppies. Her pups have all been adopted, now it's Greta's turn!

She's about 2 years old, 38lbs, and would love to love you!

Today is the last day of our adoption special!

All adult dogs, select puppies, cats, and kittens will be $ 20 adoption fees!

The puppies included - Cyclops, Gouda, Havarti, Jubilee, Klaus, Noodle, Paige, Pax, Rogue, Rue, Sesame, Thyme, Wolverine, Zamira, and Zander!

All adoptions still include spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, dewormer, flea/tick treatment, and coupons to our local Petco (thanks to Petco Love 💜)

Have you met Mark? If not, you should! 😍

Mark is around 10-11 months old so still has puppy energy 🥰 He tested positive for parvo when he first arrived at the shelter, but he never let that slow him down 💪🏼

He can be a little scared of new people, but once he knows that you mean well, he will shower you with love!

Speaking of showers, if there's a pool around - you best believe he's swimming in it! 🤣 He gets along with most dogs (the ones who don't mind getting splashed while he's playing in the pool) 🌊

His adoption fee has been fully sponsored so he's $0 to bring home ❤️ He is also eligible for Borrow-a-Buddy, foster care, etc!
