Info for our puppy clients.

When you finally welcome your 8 week old puppies, please keep this picture in mind. Their bones aren’t even touching yet. They walk so beautifully with big, flexible legs and bench movements because their joints are made up entirely of cartilage, muscles, tendons and ligaments covered with skin. Nothing is well adjusted or has real grip yet.

When you make them run excessively or don't limit their exercise to prevent them from overdoing during that time, you're not giving them the chance to grow properly. Every big jump or bounce and excited run creates bone-breaking impacts.
In reasonable quantities, this is not problematic and normal wear and tear will do.

But when you let the puppy jump off the couch or bed, take him for long walks, you damage this joint in training. When you let the puppy move on slippery tiles, you damage the joint.

You only get once to make them grow up. A well built body is something that comes from excellent upbringing and good education. BOTH , not just one

Once you’re an adult, you’ll have the rest of your life to spend playing and engaging in high-impact exercises. So keep him calm while he is still young and give him the gift that can only be given once.

Happy new year everyone just wanted to put out a little client awareness concerning swimmers tail / limp tail. We have been getting a lot of calls with concerned clients about their pups and the diagnosis in the last three weeks has been swimmers tail, the one thing we should all be aware of when considering the conditions for our dog is, yes they can handle the cold temperatures, to a limit. We should always be aware of how cold the water is. We should also limit the amount of time they spend in the water, and we should usually wear a vest to help regulate their body temperature. What we are forgetting is as the temperatures are not subzero. The water is still pretty Cold. When swimming for extended lengths of time in cold water, and a dog tends to overwork their tail muscle without realizing it and most times can bring on swimmers tail. In Laymans terms, this is primarily a muscle spasm in the tail muscle. Unfortunately, it’s very painful for the pup for the first couple days, particularly when that dog loves to wag their tail. Personally, when hunting or training in cold water my rule of thumb is once a dog has done a retrieve or two I’d like to get them back in the blind and make sure they warm up and bring their body temperature back to normal. Of course nothing is a perfect science when it comes to putting our dogs in the elements, but we should do all we can to make sure they’re safe and comfortable doing what they love to do for us. There is plenty of information about this on the web. Feel free to educate yourself. We encourage that we try to be the best advocate of care for our hunting buddies. Our waterfall season is soon coming to an end and we begin the training season always feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need any advice we are always willing to help. Best pic of 2023😉
