Milo is still waiting for his forever home. We think he is having a hard time because he is nervous with new people. With some time to warm up, Milo is a happy affectionate boy. He loves walks and snuggling up with his person. He is also very happy to chase all the squirrels from your yard.

Hurray! The Code of Virginia has been amended as it pertains to the declawing of cats.
Effective July 1, 2024, it is now unlawful for any person engaged in the practice of veterinary medicine to perform a declawing procedure on a cat, except such person may perform such a procedure if it is necessary for a therapeutic purpose.

"Cat" means any domesticated species of the family Felidae and does not include any wild or nonnative species of the family Felidae.

We can't say it enough, please spay and neuter your pets!!

PSA: Spay & Neuter your pets.

This is the most unfortunate thing about having an overpopulation of animals in our county. These babies are the ones that suffer from our mistakes.

Overpopulation doesn’t only lead to more cats.. it results in sick and abandoned babies like these. These kittens have had an upper respiratory infection for so long that one of the eyes have begun to rupture. Likely born from someone’s “outdoor” cat that has had litters and litters before them.

This all could have been prevented by spaying and neutering the parents long before these two ever existed.

Puddie is an 8 year old, neutered and declawed male. He was taken to the county shelter when his owner, due to serious health problems, could no longer care for him. Please share this post and let’s help Puddie find a new home!

Buddy, the orange tabby, and Sammie, the black cat, were two of five cats left behind when their human mom passed away unexpectedly. Buddy is 9 years old. He takes a bit to warm up, but he loves to be petted. He doesn't mind other cats too much, but he is scared of dogs. He loves his wet food and the water fountain. He likes the screened-in porch and having treats.

Sammie, 10 years old, spent a lot of time outside, but she is now safely indoors in foster care. She is a sweet girl who loves to find new places to sleep as she adjusts to no longer having to live outside. Sammie loves treats, absolutely loves them, wants all of the treats in the house! She doesn't like other female cats at all. She loves to be on the screened-in porch and roam the house freely. She doesn't mind the dog in her foster home or male cats.

Buddy & Sammie would do best adopted together. Even though like most siblings they have their occasional tussle Sammie is lost without Buddy - when they are separated she will roam the house at night crying for him. The pair will do best in a home with a screened-in porch or catio to enjoy.

The home where Sammie and Buddy came from had a mold problem. Both cats have recurring allergy issues, probably as a result of that mold. They have both had their sinuses irrigated and are on periodic allergy pills and a minimal dose of maintenance antibiotics, which seems to help.

Poor Milo is having a hard time finding his forever home, probably because he is shy with new people. Given some time, Milo is a sweet, affectionate boy who loves his family and gives lots of kisses. He loves walks, car rides, and hanging with his friends. He also provides a valuable squirrel chasing service for your yard. Please give Milo a chance!

Scaredy Cat (aka Fraidy Cat) is a long-haired spayed female, approximately 9 months old. She is the definition of introvert or possibly a ninja in the making. She keeps to herself and just lurks in the shadows. She will make her presence known when it’s time to eat, but generally spends her time napping and finding new places to nap. This cat is definitely very low maintenance.

As a home foster care organization, we can only take in animals if we have foster space available. Over the course of 3 days we got requests from folks wanting to surrender 9 adult cats and 15 kittens. We hate turning anyone away, but we can’t help if we don’t have volunteer foster homes.

What is TNR (trap/neuter/return)? Free-roaming cats (often referred to as community cats or neighborhood cats) are humanely trapped, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and eartipped at a veterinary facility, then returned to the place where they were living. Did you know cats can start breeding at the age of 5 months? TNR puts a stop to the breeding cycle and helps control the population.

We have a shortage of TNR volunteers at the moment. If you would like to learn more about TNR, there are many ways you can help:

• Learn how to trap and help county residents who may need assistance.
• Transport cats to surgery clinics
• Hold cats for recovery
• Foster kittens
• Donate to help pay for spay/neuter costs and trapping supplies.

Waffles is about 10-12 months old. His motto is play hard, sleep hard.
Waffles will need a family that can spend a lot of time with him, playing, cuddling. He will do best with a family that is home a lot as he has separation anxiety and will cry when alone. Preferably a family with older children as he sometimes gets overstimulated when playing.
He is good with other cats. He can be right in their face, but is submissive and understands the hint if they don't want to play. Waffles needs another playful feline in his furever home which is especially important when the family is away from home.
Waffles hobbies include entertaining his people with his clumsy personality, being with his people and napping next to them, watching the squirrels and birds outside and entertaining himself throughout the day with catnip toys. He LOVES his catnip!
He is easy to handle for meds and clipping nails.

What could be better than enjoying a seafood dinner with friends while watching the sunset over Jones Creek? Many, many thanks to Captain Chuck-a-Mucks for hosting our Dander & Pollen fundraiser last evening and to all the folks and their canine companions who came out to support us.

We’d also like to thank vendors The Cookie Chic, Coastal Cozy Designs, and of course Captain Chuck-a-Mucks’ “Boutique on the Creek” who helped make the event a success.

Sweet Milo is desperate for a home. He is having a tough time because he is shy with new people. Once he knows you, Milo is an affectionate, playful boy. He is house broken and crate trained. Milo is probably too timid for kids under 6.
