Pond cleanups are closed until temps get down to 90 for a high. It is simply too hot for fish, and because we have to rush to protect the fish, too hot for us. We suggest filter cleaning, skimmer cleaning, and covering pond (high up) with a sunsail for shade to reduce temperature and algae growth. I'll be putting a sail over my koi pond very soon.

Last 2 ponds we saw. One was a cleanup, the other, the netted one, was a waterfall modification to fix a leak and a partial clean.

Spring pond cleanups are coming to a close. It's not spring out there anymore. It's hot, too hot for koi to be out of their pond for hours to have it cleaned. We will continue with small cleanups, goldfish only, that can be done early in the morning. We will also clean filters on large ponds, like the biofalls on this one. (that waterfall has 3 filter pads and 3 media bags in it. Now they are clean.)

Repairs, emergencies will be handled. This water had a bad seal leaking water under the liner, it was the last big one for the spring season, but it's fixed and running well.

We also cleaned it. New filters, pressure wash, flushed gravel, removed leaves and excess lilies, iris and some carrot like plants that had overgrown. It made a huge difference.

Sometimes the best solution to the pond builder's errors is to remove the skimmer, and the leaky autofill line. No more yard floods and we leveled the waterfall. Repeat problems eliminated, and no we did not build this, we fixed it.

We did a good job blocking mud running in last year, so we finished in daylight this year.

Leaves landing on this net won't hit the water, the yard guy can blow off and bag them. Koi are safe from herons and raccoons, well as safe from raccoons as possible. Herons primarily hit koi ponds after the leaves fall, when they can see the koi from very high up. And they love a good sushi dinner.
This net has tent poles, a little easier to set up than trying to rig PVC pipe to keep the net off the water (and out of fish gills). Available from pondliner.com. Atlantic pond and Garden protector.

A homeowner had her pond filled in, and wanted a stream but no pond. and so we did, kept original waterfall and upper stream, new liner, new seals, new lower stream, new water reservoir for the pump. videos next post. Last picture is what it looked like when we started.

In this hot, hot weather I have been feeding my fish, topping off ponds and we won't be doing cleanups on ponds with fish until the daily high temperature is about 90 degrees. We do clean filters and a little bit of tidy up. We also do repairs. June 2023. Filter clean and tidy up (fish all hid once we got started), a service call to show a new homeowner where his pond's stream was leaking; and when you can't fix the leaks at the top of the waterfall, but all the water is staying in the liner, you fix it at the bottom. And we did.

When we changed the liner on this pond in November 2022, we removed all the limestone. For the first time since I first saw it in May 2008, this pond doesn't need cleaned and is naturally beautiful this May. Limestone grows algae. Silvermist doesn't. Customer just sent these pics.

Pond cleanups, except for emergencies and systems without fish, are drawing to a close. It is becoming too hot for koi and goldfish to have a radical 100% water change. We have seen some wonderful ponds this spring, with beautiful healthy fish, and hope to see more in the fall. We answer emergency service calls, filter cleans, and service we can without harming the fish.

This is contract labor and not full time – work around your schedule as much as possible. 2 or 3 days a week.

Start pay based on experience and work ethic, goes up to percentage of labor after you know what you are doing. Semi-skilled job.

Use of safety equipment is required!
Must be able to lift 60 pounds comfortably.
Comfortable with the outdoors, you will see nature. Water creatures, fish, bugs, etc.
It gets hot and it gets cold outside. We have waders.
We do not pull taxes, do require SS # for 1099.
Must be:

Drug free, and not a heavy drinker (hangovers not welcome)
Common sense, good communication skills, responsible.
No felony convictions.
Must be able to work for / with a woman – good positive attitude.

Landscape / pond work. If you want free pond muck for your garden, we get LOTS.

Koi in North Texas have more predators and heat and hazards. But when a koi owner asks me how long they CAN live I have a new answer.

Hanako, a koi fish who died at the age of 226. In 1966, two of her scales were removed and extensively studied to determine her age. She was the longest living koi fish (c. 1751 – 7 July 1977.)
