This sweet old lady’s person passed away a few weeks ago. His family came in and cleaned out his stuff. The last thing they did was to ask the neighbors if they knew anyone who wanted this old dog, because they were just going to turn her loose if not.

Thankfully neighbor, Amanda Turley, was as horrified by this as we all are. She took Jasmine in and contacted me. I’m just lucky to have an amazing senior pup foster, Holly Hamm, and she has promised Jasmine a safe place to stay for as long as she needs. Thanks for restoring my faith in humanity, you two.

So the next 5 puppies here are from the totally wild Mama that we call Jessie. She’s the proud Mama of Monkeybutt and too many others over the past couple years, just since we have been helping place her pups.

She’s been having puppies under this shed where rats have eaten their tails, and there’s a constant worry about snakes. We also have to take the puppies when they really are a little too young (nearly 6 weeks), BUT before you crucify us for that, know that we wait and watch closely, and don’t take them until they start following her to the road. (We passed a puppy that had been run over on the way to this rescue that we are 90% sure belonged to another little feral Mama dog that we have been following.)

The life of a feral dog is not an easy one, and it’s amazing when her pups survive at all. It’s only thanks to the hard work of a lot of good neighbors!

(Stick with the video for the twist to this rescue! We then had to wait for her to come out to us and her siblings…..)

Some neighbors helped rescue a litter of pups off a busy local highway! Y’all, I know you think it’s all about dumping dogs down here sometimes, but there’s a lot of us that work hard and band together to keep this from happening, or catch the pups when it does. Thank you Stephanie Hubbert Hodges and fam for helping these pups! Also huge thanks to Debbie DeMichael for helping us find homes for these beautiful pups! They are headed to New York on Friday! Little Alabama pups done good!

Thank you Stacie Elam, Mary Barnes, and Caitlin Buff for all the help locating pens! One is headed to the house now, and we got doghouses and dishes with it! Also thank you Leilani Baker and Melinda Barcum for the crates! Those got us through until we could locate pens. My volunteers are the bomb! Now to go get some puppies comfortable in their big new pen!

So it turns out there’s another little wild feral dog in the neighborhood, and these are her pups. They are old enough to leave mama and not old enough to have learned how to run wild with her. Catching her is our next step. Thanks to our kind neighbors that called about helping these guys. Meet Dory, Orion, Skye, Peaches, and Buster! Thanks also to Stacie Elam and Jeslyn for the help bathing and getting the ticks off!

Yesterday, we rescued two little dogs that were dumped at a summer camp. We were bathing them outside today, and after we finished bathing Oreo, I walked over to get Milky Way. I thought for sure she would run, as she’s already pretty skittish. But she saw me and came walking out to meet me, tail wagging but down a little, grin on her face, like she was a good girl and knew it was her turn. These dogs had someone who loved them before. I would bet an elderly person that passed away with no one to take the dogs, so they were dumped. Some rescues just hurt my heart. I’m glad at least they are found and getting some much needed love and veterinary care.

I love these moments. I caught this one by accident. I didn’t know Mandy was even thinking about a dog. Mandy didn’t know she was thinking about a dog. But Cowboy knew Mandy was his person immediately. They are coming to get him Saturday.

Dogs know their families. It’s like falling in love, they just know. We know them too. Trust your instincts. You will know the right dog when you see him or her.
