Happy Mother's Day. Wonderful wishes for all "moms".
This is a rescued critter! When he came in to Full Moon Farm Wolfdog Sanctuary, I was smitten. I called my friend and trainer that I had worked with since 2002. (First one I placed was in the Chronicles of Narnia!) She flew out to meet him and fell in love too. That was 9 years ago and "Big Boy", now Klondike, is a star! Rescue Wolfdog Rock!
1953
To have access to this coveted 1953 Ferrari was a great opportunity, but it demanded scouting for a location that was its aesthetic equal. The more grand the ambitions with a ‘tableaux’, the more vulnerable each of the constituent parts are to a sense of dragging the end photograph lower. Location scouting is an integral part of our working year, as storytelling rarely blossoms in a contextual vacuum.
The idea of using tall snow berms to frame the Ferrari and then offering a period James Bond type narrative, was not a new addition to our conceptual idea factory. It had been knocking around the edges for some time, but we simply did not know exactly where to find narrow roads shouldered by walls of snow 10 foot high. Weather patterns do not give the filmmaker the luxury of forward planning in something so specific and we need to plan well in advance.
What we did know is that these visuals tend to occur towards the end of the ski season at high altitude in both Europe and America. It is uneconomic to snowplough small private roads with further winter storms around the corner, but equally, as soon the spring thaw accelerates, the snow berms on ploughed roads lose their height and grandeur.
We knew we would be filming in America after Easter and our research concluded that the ski area that tends to have the most amount of spring snow in the US is the Sierras. Historically the mountains above Lake Tahoe get dumped on in March and the snow above 7000 ft can still be very deep in mid-April.
Our team based themselves out of the old railroad town of Truckee, and with the help of some properly informed mountain men, we found our precise location and went to work. This was an exceptional setting and an entirely secret one too. It was one of the few times in the last few years when I have been visually arrested by what was in front of me.
I would like to thank Brooks Nader for being such an excellent 1950s girl and Chip Connor for lending me his prized 250 MM, Ferrari. Meanwhile, locals Stefan Moore and Troy Caldwell were rock stars making the berms high and safe. Every constituent part of this image was first class and in reality, I had the easy job.
"The Fish and Wildlife Service is thumbing its nose at the Endangered Species Act and letting wolf-hating states sabotage decades of recovery efforts," said one conservation leader.
Honor them.

Well, I am supposed to be retired from rescue, so this will be my last post on the matter.
25 years ago, there was a website called "Rescued to Death". It is long gone, but warned of the dangers of internet/keyboard/social media rescuers, who, did not have a facility, the resources or the knowledge to keep up with that dog/wolfdog for the rest of its life.
In 24 years of rescue, I have seen well meaning, albeit inexperienced "rescuers" doom a dog to a slow and painful death at the end of a chain, hit be a car, or left to languish in a pen without proper vet care and resources.
IMO, humane euthanasia is a kinder alternative to a life of hell at the hands of the ill equipped, inexperienced, do-gooder.
There, I said the quiet part out loud.
My response to another animal welfare advocate's post:
Lyd Ledge:
I think every rescue person should share detailed information, Vet records and reports, where the animal went, who has it, post the address and all other FACTS regarding dogs they "save". Because we want to know and be sure you all are doing the right thing and if we don't agree we want to be sure you're blasted, accused and criticized. Especially those discrediting others.
So for all the injured, suffering and near death dogs, where are they and what was the outcome? Because we can pull up many where no information was given or shared after donations rolled in.
Why does RGV need a middle man out of the area to post animals? Plenty of people know how to post and ask for help., and why do people blindly follow anyone who spews vile comments and without ever having all facts or information?

August 31, 2023
Dear Friends of Full Moon Farm,
This announcement has been a year in the making.
As of today, Full Moon Farm is no longer acting as a rescue and sanctuary. All our animals have been placed at other facilities, or retained by me. (Texla, age 14.)
We will be providing educational services until the end of the year. All donations will be disbursed to the organizations listed below. All assets will be disbursed according to our By-Laws and State/Federal regulations, and the corporation will be dissolved.
It has been a great 21.5 years, but it is time to move on. My cancer scare in 2021 made me realize just how much I had given up to run the rescue. However, with a glad heart I trudged on. Although three folks stepped up to take over, all three moved on to other ventures, with my blessing.
I humbly ask that you continue to support our sister organizations that opened their hearts to our animals. Please make an appointment to see and sponsor your favorites!

Hope the lawsuit makes a difference! We need our Apex Predators!
The Board of Game-authorized program carried out in southwestern Alaska was illegal and will not help the flagging Mulchatna caribou herd, the lawsuits claim.
Thanks to all who offered and shared. The Vlcak has been handled.
Ha ha! Canine logic.
We haven't been posting much, maybe because like this dog, we have been having too much fun!
Please help our friends at Tigers for Tomorrow. They are an excellent organization and doing great work!
Update: 6-1-23 We've currently raised $ 2,031 of $9,500 needed
PLEASE HELP!
We are running out of time! We need materials to build the jungle gyms and den boxes for the wolf annex. We have six more wolves in need of forever homes coming in just a few weeks! Please donate funds or even Lowes gift cards you may have, even with a small remaining balance. It all adds up, and we are down to the wire. https://tftatuntamedmountain.harnessgiving.org/campaigns/8939
You can find our Howling for Heroes link here, our website, our link tree in bio. Your help is essential!
My 2023 plea for some sanity in wolfdogdom.
I need to add another CAVEAT here. Please, support only BRICK AND MORTER RESCUES and not KEYBOARD RESCUERS. I am damn tired of "rescuers" without a facility, pretending to be God's Gift to wolfdogs, shipping them off to someone else and never supporting
them. It happens DAILY.
GO SEE THE RESCUE YOU ARE SUPPORTING!
I was looking for something else, and came across a post I wrote on several wolfdog groups back in 2007. I hate to say it, but it has gotten worse. More and more people are breeding for money rather than the betterment of the breed. I love wolfdogs and was a private owner for 8 years before I started Full Moon Farm in 2002.
Burnout is real...
A wolfdog will die today...
Somewhere in North America, at least one wolfdog will cross The Bridge, because of irresponsible ownership and backyard breeding.
That death may be caused by:
Vehicle - from running at large.
Euthanasia - by Animal Control or Shelter.
Bullet - by a neighbor, from running at large.
Bullet - by owner cause they cannot deal with the animal any longer.
Pack fight - by greedy backyard breeder having too many animals in one small pen.
Another animal - because of a fencing breech.
Poison - the neighbor doesn't like it!
BECAUSE RESCUE IS FULL!
The rescuers and sanctuary people need your help.
WE ARE OVER FULL.
THE FOSTER SYSTEM IS FAILING.
WE ARE BURNING OUT AT AN ALARMING RATE.
This is not a plea for money. (Though we will not turn your donation down!) We can throw all the money in the world at the rescue problem, but it won't fix it.
THIS IS A PLEA FOR CONSCIENCE!
If you can make room for another animal, we NEED to hear from you. If you can't, then help us out in other ways - take out an ad in the Thrifty Nickel, the newspaper, or weekly rag about responsible ownership of WD's - and any canine.
Discourage breeding - a moratorium, if you will. {If someone is going to breed, you'd better be willing to take the animals back for the next 15 years, cause there will not be a rescue network to clean up YOUR mess.}
Volunteer at a rescue and help get fencing erected, or funds raised.
Get involved in the fight against breed bans.
Most importantly, if you cannot help in this CRISIS, do NOT offer lip
service if a rescue is forced to close down, or animals are euthanized because there isn't a place for them to go, or the rescue has to KILL animals because they are so screwed up by idiots and a$$holes and have no quality of life.
RESCUE IS AT CRITICAL MASS.
If you don't rescue, don't breed.
If you can, adopt. If you can't, volunteer, donate, transport.
And most importantly, don't take this opportunity for your own agenda! Home checks and adoption contracts are strict and necessary. We cannot afford to RESCUE our RESCUES. Since we cannot enact licensing to prove responsible ownership, we do the best we can with what we have - and what we have is responsibility for the animals. So, suck up, and meet the requirements to adopt an altered animal!
Nancy
Truth! We love rescues!
Anyone recognize this husky? Please contact our vet if you do. Number in post.
While the bear saga continues, I took 20 minutes to smile again! Did you know...
Seriously, how are these all the same species of animal?

Today we said goodbye to Sheba. A some dogs don't adjust to sanctuary life, but Sheba thrived. She loved her neighbors and the constant supply of new people to play with and love. She had a long, happy life and we're all thankful to be part of it. She truly was the best girl.
Two days after surgery and Nora is acting like her normal self. She'll be on medicine for about a week and will need the incision monitored. And no play dates with Lestat until the stitches dissolve!
The winds this morning were atrocious. Now they've calmed down and the temperature is dropping. Everyone is tucked in with fresh shavings, warm water, and a hot meal. #winterstormelliott #goaway
If you don't know her already, meet Tiny! Tiny is another character at the sanctuary. Tiny is 14 years old and has never been good with people. Her most distinguishing trait is a loud bark that doesn't stop until you leave. She is the embodiment of a hands off animal. But Tiny has her good qualities too. She was a loyal companion to her pen mate, Bob, up until his passing. She has been a good neighbor to other dogs and if you watch closely, you can catch them playing through the fence. All you can do for a dog like Tiny is give her plenty of enrichment, keep her healthy, and minimize the amount of bother from people. (Turn your volume down if you watch this around dogs. Whatever Tiny is saying, it's not polite)
Prayers, good vibes, positive thoughts, or whatever you believe in for the coolest girl around. Recently we noticed a lump on Nora. Now we're waiting for the test results from the vet. In the meantime, we're accepting suggestions and donations of holistic treatments to shrink tumors.
The courtship continues! We're still letting Mika and Anthony visit through the fence in hopes that one day they can be roomies. Some dates go better than others😆
We handed out Halloween treats and toys today! Toes was one of the few that used his gift bag correctly.

Full Moon Farm is an organization dedicated to the well being of the wolfdog (wolf hybrid). Situated on 17 beautiful mountain acres in Black Mountain, NC, we operate as a federally recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization for abused and refused wolfdogs who find themselves in need of love, shelter, and care through no fault of their own.
Full Moon Farm provides a safe haven for animals that cannot be placed into homes for the rest of their lives. Our rescued wolfdogs come from animal control agencies, closed breeding situations and occasionally, an owner in crisis. We evaluate each animal upon intake and work with them at their level of comfort. Some animals are "hands off" and we respect their choice, as well as that of the animals that crave human interaction. Our goal is to enrich the lives of the residents, allowing them to reach their highest potential. Your support by donation or sponsorship makes our task possible.
Though they may be abused or neglected, homeless because of death or divorce, they are all God's Creatures and worthy of a lifetime of respect. We are here to serve them.
