Did you know February through March is peak breeding season for Skunks? This is the time of year our dog patients get themselves into trouble. (Sometimes cats!)

If your dog gets sprayed, use this de-skunking method.

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
¼ cup of baking soda
1 teaspoon of Dawn dish soap

Lather your pet. (Do NOT wet them first. Getting them wet actually spreads and traps the odors!) Let it sit in contact with the hair for 30 min. Rinse well with tap water. Repeat as needed.

The soap acts to break up oils in the skunk spray, allowing the other ingredients to neutralize.

Normal bathing procedures should be used to protect the pet’s eyes.
