Just wanted to let everyone know that there will be some changes coming to this page soon. We will be removing this page to create our own based on our specialties. This will make it more effective for the pet owners and for us to monitor and manage cases per need.
We will still be available for the same services on Facebook until our new page is up and running.

Contact the pet owner as soon as you realize the pet is missing. Provide them with details on when and where the pet was last seen.

This allows the owner to be involved in the search process and make any necessary decisions.

More and more lately whenever someone sees a roaming animal the first thought is "someone dumped this poor thing!" This is especially true in rural areas.
But we know from experience not all are homeless or abandoned, some have owners desperately looking for them but you just may not have heard about it yet.

"Think lost, not stray" is a mindset that we firmly believe in! Our founder Kat Albrecht-Thiessen describes more about this powerful phrase and how by switching our mentalities, we can save thousands of animals lives!

If you see a wandering animal there are a few things you can do to help:
-Get the animal to safety without chasing them or causing them stress. If you cannot do that then call your local animal control or the non emergency hotline in your area.
-Get the pet scanned for a microchip
-Follow your county/state protocols for finding a pet (the best thing to do is contact your local animal shelter for details specific to your area)
-Put up large neon "Found" posters in the area you found the animal
-Post on local social media pages

By doing your part hopefully we can see more lost pets getting home safely! 💜🐾

Did you know that giving a starving animal too much food and water at once can be FATAL!!
Refeeding syndrome is still being researched in Vet Med and tends to happen more frequently in cats. But dogs, especially seniors or sick ones, are also at risk.
As explained by The School of Veterinary Medicine at The University of Wisconsin-Madison
"The desire to generously feed a starving animal is human nature, but can have disastrous consequences if done incautiously. "Refeeding syndrome" refers to the metabolic derangements that occur with the reintroduction of food after a prolonged period of malnutrition."
If you find an animal it is best to get them to a veterinarian immediately!! If you do offer food/water only do it in very small amounts every few hours, their lives could literally depend on it!

Creating an effective lost pet campaign is crucial if your pet goes missing.

Here are a few examples of effective vs ineffective posters and vehicle tagging. Which one(s) do you think would catch your eye driving 55 mph? See notes in photo descriptions.

There is actually some science and research behind creating an effective lost pet campaign and the use of big neon posters.

"INATTENTION BLINDNESS

There is a science involved in why giant, neon posters help recover lost pets. Researchers who’ve studied the human attention span have discovered a particular behavior called “Inattentional Blindness” and the hypothesis is that there is NO PERCEPTION without attention. What this means is that if something does NOT capture your attention, you will not even perceive it. If your posters are tiny (8 ½ X 11-sized sheets of paper) or a normal color, they will NOT be perceived and it will be like they are INVISIBLE!"

Remember KISS 💋 Keep it simple and sweet. By using the 5, 5, 55 rule, developed by Kat Albrecht of Missing Animal Response Network, your chances of developing sightings greatly increases.
