As we thank our Veterans for all there services and sacrifice, lets pay tribute to the Donut Dollies that made life a bit more friendly under fire, as our soldiers were away from home.

During the Vietnam War, hundreds of female American Red Cross workers deployed overseas to provide support and a sympathetic ear to millions of U.S. service members.

Nicknamed “Donut Dollies” as an homage to the Red Cross women who handed out donuts to troops in previous wars, these Red Cross workers were part of the Red Cross Supplemental Recreational Activities Overseas (SRAO) program. The standards for them were higher than those of the military: They had to be at least 25 years old, college-educated, able to provide recommendation letters and pass physical exams, as well as have an “outstanding personality.”

Donut Dollies traveled by helicopter, truck and jeep to reach servicemen, and they too experienced the challenges and tragedies of war. They sometimes slept in bunkers instead of their beds during aerial attacks. They comforted those who had seen the horrors of war up-close. And, sadly, many of the troops they came to know and support were injured or killed.

These women also played an important part during World War I, World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Service Dog Program for Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Canine Companions, LTD has spent the duration of its existence providing and training service dogs for veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). President and Director of Training Walter J. Hart, Jr. has 20 plus years of experience working with and training the service dogs with much success. We have seen the need increase for service dogs and Canine Companions, LTD has expanded its efforts and now looks to open more training facilities with confidence that we will be able to serve those who have so bravely served us and our wonderful country.

let us "paws" 🐾 to remember a magnificent culinary hero of the South, Mrs. Eugenia Duke. In 1917, Mrs. Duke began selling sandwiches to the soldiers stationed at Camp Sevier, near her home in Greenville, South Carolina. The sandwiches were a hit and her business soared, primarily because of her amazing homemade mayonnaise.
Today, Duke mayonnaise is the 3rd largest mayonnaise brand in the United States (behind Hellmann's and Kraft). Its popularity was at first largely limited to the South but in 2017, Duke's mayonnaise became available throughout the U.S. and also in New Zealand, Australia and the Middle East.
Duke’s is incomparable, of course, and the quality of our lives would be greatly diminished without it.
