Tapeworm
That's a Tapeworm and it had just been vomited up by a cat. While an infestation this severe is not typical, you can see it's possible.
Tapeworms, unlike other intestinal parasites, cannot be passed directly from pet to pet. They require an intermediate host, such as a rodent or flea. Your pet ingests said rodent or flea and the tapeworm flourishes in it's comfy new home.
Diagnosis usually entails finding the little rice-sized segments (full of eggs) dried up or even moving around the rear end of your pet. Tapeworm eggs are difficult to find in poop samples for this reason.
Despite that, poop samples are still recommended, as well as routine deworming for those who like to hunt or live outside. There's a heartworm prevention available now that contains an ingredient to treat tapeworms, if that seems to be a persistent problem for your pet.
Yes, they're moving. Yes, they're gross. They're roundworms.
Roundworms are extremely common in this area and they're zoonotic. That means your cat, your dog, that raccoon that runs through your yard every day, the deer that make your dog bark at 5 am, YOU, and YOUR KIDS can become infected with roundworms.
It's cool, we've got you covered. Routine poop checks and deworming, or monthly heartworm prevention can keep that possible infestation under control.
And of course, wash your hands!
His name is NOT Meatball. 😂
Tough guy Tony got a little spooked, lol
Channeling Peter Pan today and chasing her shadow.
This little lady needs a home. She's young, vaccinated and about to be spayed. Very sweet and social, as you can see. Let us know if you're interested!
We've been letting the girls play in a closed off section of the clinic. I went in to check on them and they immediately run up to me, so I sit down to pet them and this happened.
Honestly they can't get any cuter...until they start eating your leg 😆
Make eye contact and they immediately start purring and crying. Don't let them fool you, though. The minute you let them out, you're chopped liver! 😜
Easily entertained. Also, might be part monkey.
Still need a loving home for these super sweet girls! They're very social! Spayed, vaccinated, litter trained and ready to go!
Visiting hours are over! 😜😍
We have kittens! 6 new babies born last Thursday. I was taking pictures because, duh, they're adorable 😻 and I decide to take a video of the squeaks. Then it gets even more adorable, which I didn't even think was possible!
