We were absolutely over the moon to receive a special update about Apollo who had surgery to remove a thyroid tumor. He was having troubling symptoms prior to surgery such as weight and hair loss, changes in appetite and excessive thirst! He is over a year post surgery and is going strong, he looks and feels like a new dog! 😍🐶Follow this link to learn more about thyroid carcinoma https://www.acvs.org/small-animal/thyroid-tumors
We just love getting updates about patients!! Awesome Possum has done amazing since her mass removal with us. She feels like a whole new pup since recovering! 🫶🥳
Did you know that swimming is a great activity for cooling down AND for keeping muscles and joints strong? Swimming is a great low impact activity to keep your pup fit! It's also Derby's favorite thing to do!
This sweet girl Roxy was happy to give and receive some kisses before undergoing surgery for a TPLO. She did so great and is feeling much better after her procedure! 😘🐶
Fractures can be hard work to repair, but it’s such a rewarding process to see a patient heal from such a trauma! This pet will have full use of their leg after the bone is fully healed which takes about 8 weeks!
Ari and Jack are with the team today making sure every patient gets proper belly rubs!!
can be super fun for humans, but Derby would like to remind everyone that it can be a dangerous holiday for your furry friends!! So many toxic treats can be found around the home during this time, beautiful lillies, baskets full of , plastic and colorful strings! Please keep you and in mind and celebrate Easter in ways that will keep them safe! Have a great weekend!! 🐰🐥🌸🌷

This 🐶 needs a home or foster!! We found him near Hollywood beach, starved. We lured him with food and as soon as he realized we were there to help him, he gave endless kisses 😗 and became a lapdog! He is timid and fearful, but very curious and warming up to noises, various environments, and people. So far comfortable with females, slow around men but interested. I think he will make an excellent pet he just needs love and patience.
Approx 1-2yo, male. Gray pit mix., 43lbs (should be ~60 lbs). He will be neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed etc. before going to any home. We will be testing him with other dogs and cats this week. Please message if you are interested!! 🐾
Ouch!!! 😅 This sweetie needed a fracture repair of his femur. It was a very successful surgery performed by Dr. Bibevski We wish Luki a speedy recovery! He will soon be able to go back to doing all his favorite activities 🎾 🐶 💜

TPLO day on a big boy named Rambo!
Brachycephalic: Certain breeds that are prone to difficult, obstructive breathing because of the shape of their head, muzzle, and throat!
Brachycephalic Syndrome: the combination of elongated soft palate, stenotic nares, and everted laryngeal saccules!
Elongated Soft Palate: the soft palate is too long and therefore extends into the airway and interferes with movement of air into the lungs!
Stenotic Nares: malformed nostrils that are narrows or collapse inward during inhalation!
Everted Laryngeal Saccules: the tissue in the airway , just in front of the vocal chords, is pulled into the trachea and partially obstructs airflow!
Bean had all three of these components corrected and is doing so wonderfully! We love making a difference in animals’ lives💜
This is Bean 💕shortly after he has been extubated. You can not hear any concerns with his breathing like you can in the previous video.
Hopefully this series can shed some light on the tremendous impact this surgery can have on our smoosh faced breeds.
He is back home with his family and they cannot believe how quiet he is!!! How cool is that?!
This Bean! A super duper cute Pug who is exhibiting symptoms of brachycephalic syndrome.
Unfortunately with these breeds we consider these noises normal. Well that is not the case and this is actually a result of him struggling to breathe appropriately. Airway surgery is not completely curative as there are certain anatomical changes that cannot be altered but the changes we can make are life-changing for these patients like Bean. The next video I’ll post will show him immediately after surgery and you cannot hear a peep!
This cutie 💕Bean 💕just had brachycephalic surgery with Dr. Bibevski
See his before and after?? What a cutie who now can breathe with appropriate sized nostrils 🤩
More posts to follow showing the surgeries involved to make his new quality of life game changing!

Mr. Blu had a TPLO performed with Dr. Bibevski last fall. He recovered beautifully and went back to being his normal self until recently he developed sudden lameness on that same leg. It was recommended at this time to do a stifle (knee) explore which involves:
1. Removing the TPLO plate and screws
2. Evaluating the joint to see if he tore his meniscus
Blu’s meniscus was intact at the time of his TPLO procedure and although the chances are low (12%) it is still possible for this to happen at some point after the surgery. As a precaution a culture was sent out to ensure that there is not an underlying infection. In Blu’s case removing the damaged meniscus should resolve his lameness and discomfort! After four weeks he will be free to go back to being his active self again!
Speedy recovery Blu!

Look at that nose job! 💯🤩 Opening up the nares is one of the components for brachycephalic airway surgery. Have you ever given much thought to these breeds with the smushed in faces (French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers) and how this affects them? Next time you see one compare their nostrils to that of a dog who has a normal anatomical makeup. You can also get an idea of how it feels to have these nostrils by pinching your own nostrils closed- how much harder is it to breathe? To learn more visit the acvs website and search brachycephalic syndrome. . . . #brachycephalicsyndrome #brachycephalyawareness #brachycephalicdogsofinstagram #brachycephalicdogs #acvs #veterinarysurgeon #specialtymedicine #icanbreathe #englishbulldog #englishbulldogsofinstagram #qualityoflifematters #rewardingjob
Listen to the change in sound a little over half way through the video!!! It is truly amazing the difference surgery can make in our patients. Unfortunately we associate these noises as “normal” for the adorable smush faced breeds that we call brachycephalic. Let’s change that thinking and help our brachycephalic breeds breathe well and have a much better quality of life!!! . . . #brachycephalic #brachycephalicsyndrome #brachycephalicsurgery #englishbulldogbreathingproblems #airwaysurgery #icanbreathenow #veterinarysurgeon #veterinaryteam #petadvocates #newqualityoflife #weloveourjob #travelingvet #teamworkmakesthedreamwork
This is an epic before and after airway surgery video of Giovanni. The difference is truly amazing. Unfortunately many people are so accustomed to the sound these brachycephalic breeds make that they don’t realize how abnormal it is. It is truly amazing what airway surgery can change in terms of a new quality of life for these breeds. If you love the smush faces and have one pay attention to their sounds, exercise tolerance, ability to keep food down, frequent swallowing, flatulence, soft stool or diarrhea. Talk to your doctor if any of these are noted!! . . . #brachycephalic #brachycephalicsyndrome #brachycephalicdogs #brachycephalicbreathingawareness #brachycephalicbreeds #brachycephalicsurgery #qualityoflife #abletobreatheagain #acvs #veterinarysurgeon #beforeandafter #lifechangingsurgery

Shown here is a side by side viewing of Dr. Bibevski’s exam before and after #tplosurgery Physical exam is the only way to confirm if a pet has torn their cruciate ligament- analogous to the ACL in humans. 1) She is testing for tibial thrust first. In the video on the left you can appreciate the tibia protruding forward (look just below her index finger) and on the video to the right you can see that the tibia stays anatomically aligned with the femur and does not thrust forward. First ✅ that this pet has a stable knee!! 2) The second test she performs is called the cranial drawer test. She places one hand on the dog’s femur in a specific way and the other hand on the dog’s tibia in a specific way. The video on the left shows that she can easily slide the tibia back and forth and the video on the right shows no movement of the tibia. Second ✅✅ that this pet has a stable knee now!! These are two tests to simply illustrate a pet who does not have any stability in their knee prior to surgical correction. It is also cool to see how stable they are immediately after surgery. This does not mean that recovery can be taken lightly though! #tplosurgery #tplorecovery #cruciateligament #cruciaterupture #cruciaterupturesofinstagram #cranialcruciateligament #orthopedicsurgery #tibialthrust #tibiathrust #cranialdrawer #cranialdrawertest #stableknee #stablekneesarehappyknees #happysurgeon #travelingvet #rewardingjob
