The Origins of my Pet Sitting Business
Like a lot of people, I’ve had the honor of having animals in my life since I was born. As a child I learned early on to depend upon their companionship, and they kept me from loneliness. I learned the responsibility of caring for them. I came to respect them in every way. Our pets comforted us when we needed tenderness. They would sacrifice their lives for us, some of them. (Maybe not so much those cats!)
Until I was fifty years old, I had always kept at least one cat and one dog. There are repercussions to having pets, especially as a person that has always enjoyed moving around a lot, but I managed. When asked about any longterm relationships, I can only claim my Shar Pei, Stitch, my best friend and companion for thirteen years. The loveliest and most gracious being I’ve ever had the pleasure to spend time with.
Now I move around even more than before. I’ve shaken off a lot of furniture, things, and people that troubled me so I can be more light on this earth. I miss my friends, however. I miss my four legged companions. I miss how they ground me, how they speak with their eyes, how they are playful and fun sometimes, or more serious at others. I can always talk with them and they always get what I’m saying. I love the old wise ones as much as the younger pups and kittens who don’t listen at all but bring so much joy in their antics.
The solution came organically, as friends intuited how I adored their pets and I was a natural to ask to care for them while they went away. I began advertising pet sitting as a service, and my calendar filled up.
