Just a well rounded horse Amahle is.

22/06/2020

Amahle continuing to ride on a loose rein. Long rides, sweaty saddle pads and concentrated training makes for a well broke horse.

21/05/2020

This 2yr old mare has been in the program for 60 days now. We work to perfect a little more each day and just keep her riding at the basics until she grows a little more.

Amahle here is soft, quiet and rides out very nice. Not bad for 2.

Like all athletes, it is important to take care of your body not only with the training regiment but good after care as well. Good nutrition, hydration and taking care of the body are important components to perform at ones best to be ready to handle training. It's great partnering with Nikki Elvig with Enhanced Equine Services and having her come out and put massages on my clients horses in training to keep their muscles in proper condition so they can succeed in the program. Massages promote flexibility, circulation to fuel the muscles, works out pressure points and more. I would recommend having her out to help keep your horses maintained so they can perform at their best. She does great massages and my clients horses sure love the treatment, well worth the investment. Give Nikki a call/message and book your appointment soon!

Quality horse training is not about bucking a horse out or being heavy handed. That strategy is more dangerous for the horse and person and often sets horses up with gaps in their training foundation. Quality horse training is about establishing concepts from the ground to saddle and refining a horses skills and abilities step-by-step building upon the lesson before. Asking with the softest ques and rewarding the slightest try. Quality horse training is about dedication, consistency and your timing and release to build a finished product. Without that formula, who knows what you will get out of a horse and what you are in for.

City Slicker Horsemanship has proven methods and proven results turning even the most unruly horses around. Dedication, consistency and precise timing and release makes horses that go through the City Slicker Horsemanship program, soft, willing, controllable and enjoyable to ride.

This is the most rewarding part of the City Slicker Horsemanship program. It's seeing that horse make that transformation from bad to a great partner. It's great integrating the owners back with their partners so that they can gain that confidence back, refine their horsemanship skills and enjoy their companions post training. Sometimes you have to go through the ugly to get to the good. It's great to see how they were coming into the program and then how they end and leave the program.

CLIENT FEEDBACK:

Always great to hear how happy people are after their horses go through the City Slicker Horsemanship program:

This spring I sent my newly acquired 6-year-old gelding to City Slicker Horsemanship after discovering several holes in his foundation. I had very little information regarding this horse’s previous history, but it didn’t take long before discovering that he was extremely reluctant to move his feet. When asked to canter he would become explosive which resulted in bucking and or an attempt to climb six foot panels. James was confident that he could solve this problem, and sure enough after one month of training, he resolved this problem and many more. The horse I picked up after training was soft, respectful, and everything I was looking for in a companion.

James delivered excellent lessons at the end of training that aided in a smooth transition between horse and rider. In addition, he provided several essential exercises that taught me how to get my horse thinking and moving his feet before every ride. Within two weeks of having my gelding back home, I have had nothing but remarkable rides at home, in multiple new areas, and on the trail. I would highly recommend City Slicker Horsemanship for anything from a tune up, to retraining a problematic horse.

Insider look into training, past week photos. Two completely different horses. Bella the brown and white paint is very dull, lazy, pushy and needs a spark lit under her feet. C**a, the buck skin, is stubborn, reactive and rears when she is asked to move away from pressure. Its been a very successful week for a turn around for these two and first rides will be coming soon.

Interesting read on how this person identifies horse personalities by looking at the expression of the eye. We have heard many generations talk about what kind of horse it is just through look in the eye.

When evaluating a horse, Hawaiian horseman Lester Buckley focuses on its eyes and expression. By accurately reading a horse’s disposition through its eyes, riders can select the type of horse best suited for them.

This was a really cool last week of training for this group of horses. Both horses, two completely different backgrounds. The first was Desi and she was an 11yr old mare being started for the first time. City Slicker had to prepare her and make her quiet and ridable for her 11yr old rider Keith who will use her for 4H. The second was Twitch who was stiff as a board and bucked when asked to canter. He was to be prepared for his rider Holly so she could enjoy riding with a willing and safe horse. These horses turned out great and it was a great week finishing up training by integrating and giving lessons with their owners.

14/04/2017

Not a bad little gal she is turning out to be. For being started as an 11yr old she has been progressing very well. Still green and gets stuck sometimes but overall she is quiet, responsive and rideable. This lady has a long future in front of her.

Holly Miklos horse Twitch was brought into the City Slicker Horsemanship program because of he reluctance to canter and the bucking problem he had when asked to move out. This horse had a lot of fight and even attempted to jump out of the round pen when asked to move his feet. Twitch has had a major turn around and is a quiet, respectful and responsive horse that is now controllable and safe and more importantly in a good thinking state of mind. Holly has a great and willing companion coming back to her. Below is day one round-penning of him fighting and trying to jump out and the video is Twitch now, willingly and respectfully moving out and respecting the rider.

Note: Dinozzo has not been through the City Slicker Horsemanship Program. Everything stated about the horse has just been what has been observed up to this point. Dinozzo may be purchased "as is" but will begin his training this fall of 2016 of which will increase his sale price.

This horse is a great looker, he is tall and long showing characteristics of fantastic race horse breeding. This guy has some proven high million dollar earners running through his blood that includes, Seeking the Gold, Mr. Prospect and even the great Seattle Slew. Now he is ready to be taken in any direction.

ON THE GROUND:
This off-track thoroughbred is a bit ancy on the ground. At home hes pretty quiet but off site he is ancy to be around. He is in no way aggressive or dangerous. Dinozzo has a very quiet laid back personality and gets a long well with other horses.

UNDER SADDLE:
Completely different horse under saddle. While mounted, this horse is very quiet and respectable. I have had a couple English style riders try him out for a potential project horse. He is quiet, very sweet and willing and did not offer any problems, very ridable. Below is a link on some of his beginner level show from the prior owner.

CONDITION & CARE:
Currently out to pasture with other pasture mates to put on some weight before training. This horse has gone through a vet examination of which he is healthy, vitals sounded good and after a vet assessment, determined he would be suited for low level jumping, dressage, trail riding or show.

PROBLEMATIC & DANGEROUS HORSES

Jimmy John was a great horse to help give a second chance too. Just the rope touching him was enough to make him uncomfortable. But I use a rope because it is safer to touch the horse at 35ft than it is to have me right next to him when he goes off. However that is just where this his starting point was and it has to start somewhere. Everyday we continued to refine from there and what a difference. City Slicker Horsemanship can even turn the most unruly of horses around.

Hello James! I have been following your posts on Montana Dressage, and would like to invite you to like my page, Stonybrook Farm Equestrian Center, too. It's good to see someone in the valley taking OTTBs and reschooling them into new careers. That's what I've done for some 35+ years and it has been a most rewarding and gratifying experience! :-) I will also send you a friend request from my personal page. Gina Tiernan
