We continue Pet Memorial Month with a story about the Publix Puppies.
PJ, Pippy, George & Autumn (now Joey) were dumped by the Publix on County Line during summer 2022. They were brought to us and seemed like healthy, playful puppies. All 4 puppies soon became extremely sick. They were tested for everything you could think of, all coming back negative. Unfortunately after several vet visits, PJ and Pippy both were not able to fight off their sickness. George and Joey were able to make full recoveries. George was adopted by a wonderful couple who regularly comes by and donates food and treats to our shelter pups. Joey was adopted by our volunteers Chris and Kat and has a RCAD alumni fur sister.

It’s stories like these where we are so amazed by our director Laura’s commitment to our shelter pets. Thank you Laura for fighting for these babies recoveries. We miss you, PJ and Pippy❤️👼

Please remember to send Kat your donation receipt this month and a photo of a pet you would like to honor! [email protected]

Chloe had a great time at the library tonight. It was her first public appearance so it took her a minute to come out of hiding.

Gregory wants to know where his applications are?!
Sweet boy Gregory is almost 6 months old now. He is a poodle/german shepherd mix and will likely be a big boy. He is calm, gentle, and actually quite a lazy boy. He would love a home with a nice comfy couch and maybe some fur or human siblings.
Please submit applications for Gregory on our website https://www.rainingcatsanddogsshelter.com/adoption

A sad story with a happy ending… This sweet orange and white kitty was adopted from us several years ago and was turned into SPCA as a stray. We contacted his adopter and they didn’t want him back. Through an amazing turn of events, he was adopted yesterday by the family who adopted his sister Cupcake. Congrats on your forever family Whiskey! You really hit the jackpot this time around.

We feel the need to address some accusations from a post made on a local Lost and Found page. Comments are turned off and we ask that everyone respect the process before disparaging our rescue.

We try to be friendly with our neighbors and help in any way that we can. On January 1, 2022, we helped our neighbors find their golden retriever who jumped their fence on New Years Eve. Several of our volunteers spent hours scouring the adjacent park area for their lost dog. They were frantic as their dog had puppies and the puppies had already been without their mom for many hours. There was no luck finding her in the woods but we suggested bringing the puppies into the park with the hopes that the puppy noises would draw the mom out. It worked and their sweet golden mama was returned home.

Fast forward to several years later and this same dog was found wandering near Highway 60 and subsequently collapsed in the arms of a rescuer. The dog was malnourished, covered in fleas and missing most of its hair.

Animal control was contacted, given a full report and photographs. Animal Control has visited this home, left notices and has received no phone calls. There is no woman living in this home and a man stops by periodically. The trash bin has not been taken to the road and the windows are left open since there is no power.

We will comment no further but we request that the attacks on our rescue mission cease so that we can continue our work in the community.

September is Pet Memorial Month.

Earlier this year we lost our sweet Honey to cancer. She was pulled from a county euthanasia list and had many tumors throughout her body. Honey loved stuffed toys, b***y scratches, and most importantly love & affection from people. Honey was only with us for a few months but we can confidently say it was the best few months of her life (and ours❤️). We will be sharing more RCAD shelter pets that we have lost throughout this month.

We have several surgeries coming up for Walter, Nahla, Winston, Clyde, Jasmine and Chico. We will post about their surgeries throughout the month. This month please help us honor Honey, as well as your past fur babies by helping the shelter pets currently in our care. Please message or email Kat, our social media coordinator, a screenshot of your donation this month and a photo of the pet you would like to honor, so we can honor them all together! We will post the video on Oct 1st. [email protected]

Bridgerton Boy Gregory just recently found out that his adoption fell through! He’s not sad though. He is eagerly waiting to meet his forever family. He wants his new family to know that he is cute, sweet, gentle, playful and almost 99% house trained. He is smart and eager to please. He will do good with kids and other dogs.
You can apply for Gregory on our website https://www.rainingcatsanddogsshelter.com/adoption

Francesca is today’s wackadoodle!

Francesca is coming up on 5 months old and we are no closer today to figuring out what breed she is than we were 5 months ago. Here’s what we do know:
She is the sweetest and most gentle girl. She will likely be a pretty big dog when full grown. She is almost fully house trained despite the fact that she is still just a puppy. This doesn’t sound wacky enough for her to be a wackadoodle? You’re right. What’s wacky is that despite many approved applications on this girl, the adopters keep backing out before getting a chance to meet her. That is crazy to us. She is the perfect addition to any family.

Apply for Francesca on our website https://www.rainingcatsanddogsshelter.com/adoption

Our favorite dog trainer just released her fall schedule and there will be a basic group class on Sundays! This is a wonderful intro to training and great for socializing your rescue dog.

We hope to bring a few shelter pups to the class as well. Let us know if you would like to sponsor a shelter dog for this class! It’s $150 for the 5 week class. Contact Leslie at [email protected] or message us on Facebook if you’d like to sponsor.

👀 We are looking for volunteers!

Do you have some free time on Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday? We are in desperate need of reliable and committed volunteers to help on those days with dishes, washing litterboxes and cycling laundry. The shift is 11am to 3pm.

Our shelter is run by volunteers so we rely on our committed team to take care of our shelter pets. We are looking for people who can make a commitment to coming at least one day per week. We understand how hard it is to find time every week to volunteer, but it is really rewarding when you become a part of our village and are able to see first-hand all of the animals we save together.

Email Leslie, our volunteer coordinator, if you’re interested. [email protected]

Are you wacky enough to adopt two little dogs at one time? If so, do we have the duo for you!

Meet Brandy and Bubbles. This bonded pair of females is likely mother/daughter or siblings. Brandy is probably 2 and Bubbles is about a year old. They are very sweet together. Ideally they would be your only two dogs in the home.

They aren’t good with cats. Bubbles likes to nibble fingers. They will need work on house training.

For the month of August, the adoption fee for this bonded pair is $350. https://www.rainingcatsanddogsshelter.com/adoption

She is hoping to earn another gold medal in Finding A Home ❤️🥇
