Another day, another down stay 😍 #dogtraining #dogstay #doglifestyle
Remember the three Ds of stay training—duration, distraction, and distance. Once duration has been mastered, slowly introduce distractions like lightly knocking on the wall or handler moving in place. If duration and distraction are mastered, slowly increase your distance from your staying friend.
To properly teach stay, always return to your staying dog to reward rather than calling the pup to you.
Puppy Hack: Kong filled and frozen with peanut butter and kibble. Use this technique for puppy distraction when you need a little time and are not able to provide 100% supervision. #cratedesensitisation #dogtraining #puppytraining
Little puppy Ivy doesn’t even realize she is being desensitized to the crate because she is so into her Kong 🐶❤️
Too cold outside? Practice down stays inside instead 🐶 #dogtraining #doglifestyle #doggydaycare
Down stays are a great way to burn through mental energy and one of the best skills for overall obedience.

Want a good loose leash heel with your pup? Read some of our helpful tips below :)
1. Have confidence and let go of fear of judgement. When we are training our pups, we can’t worry about what other people think of us. Our pups need strong leaders to set confident examples they can trust to follow. I love when I hear children ask “why is that person walking in circles with their dogs.”
2. Be an unreliable navigator. If your walks are unpredictable, anticipatory pulling will decrease and pups will look to you for direction.
3. If you want a loose leash, set an example of a loose leash. The leash is a tool to help keep our pups safe, not to pull or force them. You set the example, if you pull the leash, you are teaching your pup that a tight leash is ok.
4. Never let your pup walk in front of you. If your pup begins to move in front, say “oops, let’s go this way.” Change your walking direction by 90 degrees away from your pup and guide your pup to walk behind you in heel with your words and body language. Continue changing directions so you are teaching your pup to walk behind you, marking proper position with a “yes heel” and providing pets and praises like “good.” It’s important to recognize when pups are in proper position by marking and praising so they understand where you want them positioned.
5. You are always training your pup. Don’t give in to pulling just because you are a few feet from your destination. Going where your pup is pulling is reinforcing pulling. Every negative pulling repetition significantly outweighs positive heel repetitions. Have strong patience and love and only move on when your pup is behaving properly. Never give in to bad behavior because it’s easier to let your dog pull and you don’t have to deal with it anymore. If you let your pup pull, you will have to deal with it even more the next time you are in a similar situation.
