Bad day today. Woke up with news from IQ Bird Testing.

2 of the birds I had sent DNA testing out for, came back positive for PBFD (Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease).

One of the birds is a Canary Wing Parakeet. That has been in quarantine. Has not been around any other birds. I will be resubmitting a sample from this bird. Through a second testing company. I intend on culling this bird as a precautionary measure. After taking a second sample.

The second is a baby lovebird that was in the nursery and just weaned. Again separate from my aviary.

This Lovebird was bred by a friend and my aviary was doing the hand-feeding and selling. The PBGD in this bird has not reached the shedding stage. The bird has at least 2-3 months from being able to shed and spread the disease. We will not be culling this bird at this time.

I will be taking samples from the parents and submitting them for analysis. If the parents test positive. It will be their owners decision what to do. If they want the baby back. I will be giving the baby back.

In the last hour I have canceled my order to A&E. Every single baby bird that is in the nursery will be tested for PBFD as a precautionary measure.

Just for some background the male lovebird, father of the baby lovebird. The Canary Wing Parakeet were purchased from the same breeder. I have reached out to that breeder. To notify of the positive tests.

My aviary is completely isolated from both the nursery and quarantine areas. I will not be changing my procedures and continue with random tests of my own flock as I have done in the past.

I want to be open and clear with everyone. PBFD is certainly bad. We have a biosecurity plan. As I do have a lot of birds both in and out. The plan was created for this eventuality, that I hoped never came but I am dealing with it now.

I have baby birds and eggs in boxes now in the aviary. I don't want to bring them into the nursery until my follow on testing is complete. I have completely sanitized with oxine.

EDIT: A friend reached out to me. Who will be hand-feeding up comping babies. Until I am able to finish sanitizing the nursery.

All 2023 Hatched Juvenile Birds. DNA Male Blue Mutation Scarlet-Chested Parakeet, DNA Pairs of Green-Cheek Conures, Single DNA Male 2x Yellow-Sided, Turquoise and Pineapple-Turquoise Green-Cheek Conures, awaiting DNA but all of the Female Green Quakers, DNA male and female Nanday Conures. Also have several 2022 and 2023 hatched Parakeets. I should have some Golden Pheasant Keets hatching soon. After DNA comes back I may have a 2022 male Peafowl.

New aviary has arrived.

Unfortunately I will not be attending the Gilmanor Trade Day this year. My farm scaled back significantly on poultry. We are currently in the process of building a new large scale aviary. Followed by new aviaries for the pheasants and peafowl.

Just a few reminders and updates from years
past:
We do not pre reserve spaces. Once we’ve finished painting spaces(normally Thursday the 4th,will be posted) you can come pay get your receipt and mark off your space appropriately.

You are more than welcome to camp out over night Friday if it’s easier for you as long as your camping gear remains in your space.

We run first come first serve, but there are plenty of spaces and overflow if we need it.

Food trucks and outdoor restrooms are on site.

If you do not come until Saturday to get a space someone will take you to an open space and a staff member will come around to collect your payment or you can come to the home booth(1st space under Lean-to to the left of the large feed building) to pay for your space.

***If you do not have your receipt for space, you do not have one***

*Below are a list of rules and regulations to maintain for safety and convenience.*

1~ There will be additional parking in the large
field on the right side of the swap so don't try
to cram in the front two fields!
2~No selling from your vehicle in parking lot.
You WILL be asked to leave
3~ALL DOGS should be on a leash at all times
and other animals shall be contained in some
manner
4~Absolutely NO parking on paved roads/
road sides vehicles to be towed at owners
expense
5~ We ask that you remain in your spot until 1 pm to keep staff & visitors safe.
6~If you plan on camping, small fires must be contained by fire pit, or grill.

We're out here at George's Feed Seed and Grow Shop in Forest, VA. I have out here Guineas, turkeys, Pheasants, chicks, quail, rabbits. I have a couple friends out here with Silkies.
