Here are our's...
Jane: My first dog memory is of my grandfather’s Jindo -- Bok-Soon -- which means “lucky girl”. Bok-Soon lived in the front yard of my grandparents’ house growing up, in a wooden dog house that was painted green. My grandpa, an educator and principal at the local all-boys high school, was a tough man who was super reserved and hard to please. Bok-Soon was a loyal guard dog with a fierce bark, but also a good girl who loved to be pet and shown affection from her people. She was the only one besides us grandchildren that could disarm my hard-shelled grandpa and though she and I got to build our own bond, grandpa was the one human who truly had her heart. I remember watching them interact and being fascinated by their relationship... and wanting my own dog so I could feel all the feels for myself... it’s how I come to be a dog person.

Rye: I remember my parents coming home from work with a huge box, my assumption… they brought home paperwork. I was SO wrong as I looked inside and saw the smallest black fur ball sleeping inside. My brother and I asked “who’s dog is this”, turns out, it was ours, our first family dog. Someone at their work found a box of 6 puppies on the side of the road that day and walked around asking if anyone wanted one. They came up to my dad and he picked the last girl in the litter and surprised us all when they came home from work. We named her Xena (yes after the warrior princess TV show). She slept in that box the first night home and my brother and I snuck into the living room to sleep right next to her.

🥳A birthday shout-out to Shelby who turned 12 today! Wildebeest simply would not exist today if this little sassy mutt hadn’t found her way into my life & heart. Here’s to many more years of adventure, snuggles and precious moments together… Love you and happy birthday Shelby! 💖

Hey Beesties👋 Jane from Wildebeest here. This week has been a whirlwind -- change of seasons/month, mercury retrograde, delayed inventory restock, son's had a black eye from falling on his face, the never-ending Giants/Dodgers race to the NL West -- Go Giants!🖤🧡
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Within it all, I've somehow been able to shift my focus to product development which is definitely where I feel the happiest, most productive & confident. Finding this zone for me has become harder and harder over the years as I get sidetracked with more "business" tasks throughout the day. Even if I think of cool product ideas, it takes me getting into the right head space to throw down a single sketch on paper or bust out a meaningful mock-up.
First, I need all of the emails answered and orders shipped out, animal & plant pets watered & happy, the right kind of music playing, the studio clean and work table cleared... just so I can spread out my mess right back to a mad-scientist state of chaos again! Pretty fussy I know, but let's be honest, we all have our processes, right?🤓
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I had been thinking about a product idea for about 3 months... and I guess this week was the week? I finally sat down and made some prototypes I was happy with, and now I've got 4-5 products in different stages of development.
Shelby and I have already started testing some of the samples, and I’ll make more to have them field tested by others in the coming weeks. From here it’s a lot of tweaking before we send off the final prototype to the sample team at our factory, and probably a couple rounds of sampling before production.
I love this whole process... seeing an idea evolve into a fully functional product and engineering it to its best version possible along the way.🦋

I hope you'll get to see most of what I'm working on now as real Wildebeest products next year, and will be sure to keep you posted on the progress!

The Summer sort of flew by… and we’re *almost* ready to shift gears to welcome a new season and new inspirations.
