We are so excited about this development! Thousands of kittens will be able to have a legal treatment avenue for FIP— a diagnosis that was once a death sentence.

Now kitten rescuers can work with their veterinarians to get treatment for these beautiful babies. 💜

The rumors are true! Stokes Pharmacy to Offer Legal FIP Treatment in the US Available June 1st. Stokes Pharmacy has formed an exclusive partnership with the Bova Group to offer a U.S.-made compounded oral treatment for feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). This treatment is supported by Bova’s unique drug formula, which has been utilized in clinical research studies across the globe and is currently in use in the UK and Australia.

Pheeew! What did you do with your Saturday? This is what two of our volunteers were out doing!

Mother cat with a litter in a community member’s yard— cat unfriendly dogs living in/near the home. Not an ideal spot for this family AT ALL.

Thankfully two PLR volunteers leapt into action despite the heat! Two kittens were hand-caught, the last kitten and momma cat were humanely trapped. The whole family is cozied up in a quarantine kennel so they can begin treatment for the works! (Fleas, worms, etc.)

Hi, my name is Chester!

I am a soft, fluffy snuggle bug. I’m seven months old and get along really well with other cats, and I am okay with dogs!

I came to PLR looking a little rough. My noise was bruised, and I had some small mats in my fluffy tail. PLR gave me some TLC, and now I feel good as new again! 🤩💈

My favorite things are sunbathing, climbing cat towers, and seeking out snuggles from my person— but I don’t have a person right now. Maybe you could be my new person?

Introducing Mama ✨ Matilda✨ and her kiddos!

Matilda was very stressed at PBC Animal Care, and PLR was able to arrange for their transfer directly into a foster home! Their foster writes:

“Matilda is an amazing mother to her kittens, and it’s very clear that she wants to be loved. Every day I work with them, Matilda is less stressed and more neutral about having her babies handled. I can’t wait for the day Matilda is able to go on and find her person!”

Nail trims are such an important part of grooming your cat!

Many cats find nail trims to be aversive. Here are some things you can do to change that:

✅ Get your cat used to having their paws handled. This can be as simple as stroking their legs down to their paw pads while you’re snuggling them!

✅ Reward your cat when they allow you to touch or place gentle pressure on their paws.

✅ Allow them to investigate the nail trimmers before you start, and reward them for interacting (sniffing, touching, etc) with the trimmers on their own.

✅ When trimming, take breaks and offer rewards! You can see PLR kitten Frankie taking a break and investigating his foster paw-rent’s nail trimmers in the photo below.

Practice, practice, practice! At PLR we start our kittens on nail trims as early as possible, so that they can be paw-fect catizens for their future parents and groomers!

Welcome to PLR, ✨Twig and Leaf✨

Much like a pair of Pokémon, we had to go out into the wild to help capture these two! A concerned community member asked for help with two kittens that had grown up in their yard, and we were happy to help!

Once cats reach about 5-6 months on the streets, it can be difficult to acclimate them to humans! Luckily, Leaf and Twig seem to be open minded about this whole “ear scritches” and “catnip” business.

They’ll continue to receive some TLC while they await their spay/neuter. Eventually they’ll be available on our website!

✨Welcome to PLR, Smidge!✨

Smidge is an owner surrender who is short a smidge on brain cells. We really think she was supposed to be an orange cat, but the kitten factory messed up the order. 😅

Smidge has started her flea medication, dewormer, and vaccines; and is awaiting her spay!

❕Chester then versus now!

Chester is a 6 month old boy who was an owner surrender to PLR. Chester had fleas, the beginning of mange on his ear tips, and some prominent bruising on his nose after he got stuck in a piece of furniture.

✅ Chester is now flea and mange free, and look at that cute little nose! Chester is awaiting his neuter, and then he will be available for adoption. 💕

🎤 A PLR volunteer says this about Chester:

“Chester is SUCH a sweet boy, and so so dang fluffy! He loves chin, chest, and belly rubs 😍 and he really enjoys a good Churu treat too!”

Have you ever seen be so photogenic?

Fosters Granite and Slate love modeling for their foster parent! Kittens eyes are blue from (typically) birth to around six months, when they may change to their forever eye color. How cool is that?!

Meet Frankie!

Frankie is a 7 month domestic short hair. When Frankie was 2 months old, he was pulled out of a car engine by a very determined PLR volunteer. It was a three hour long rescue operation, with one PLR volunteer and three community members working together to extricate Frankie from a Ford F150. 🫣

Frankie loves other cats (especially PLR fosters Spunky Boy and Frida!), is okay with dogs, and loves to have his own fleece blankets to lay and play on.

Frankie is FIV/FeLV negative, neutered, and up to date on vaccines.

Sweet girl Rain is searching for her new snuggle buddy! 💜

Rain was brought to us by a Good Samaritan after she had a singleton kitten. Her kitten has already been adopted, but Rain is still here! 😭

Rain has some scarring over one eye, and has been looked over by a veterinarian. The scarring is unlikely to cause any further eye issues.

Rain is 4 years old, and does well with other cats as long as there is a proper introduction period. She loves sun bathing, cuddling, and watching you work.

V has been doing great since surgery! This little girl has been adjusting great to 3 legged life and can’t wait for the future when she can find her forever home! Due to recent surgery she is unable to be spayed for another 4-6 weeks and will continue her rehabilitation in the meantime.

My Meemaw, who is visiting from Ohio, drove the 40 minutes with us to pick up a litter of neonates. She wanted to ensure their safety on the ride home and was excellent at her job!
