DKF membership currently consists of board members and general members who have voting privileges. The membership fee is only $5.00 ($10.00 family membership) and all members receive our bi-annual newsletter that includes news, special features and details about future events. Some of our members are enthusiastic about competing in dog shows in the state. The owners of pure breeds enter the big ri
ng in hopes of being honored with championship awards. Most of our members just love their dogs, and are interested in fun dog activities and in helping their dogs be "good island dogs"! This becomes obvious when realizing the time given by our talented trainers is done on an all-volunteer basis. The President of the club urges the public not to feel shy about volunteering, pointing out that there are various activities to meet a person's interest. Also anyone is welcome to observe when a training class is in session. During the year there are two sets of obedience training classes, one held in the fall and one in the spring. There are four categories of training: Kindergarten Puppy and Novice Obedience are held on Saturdays at the Grove Farm Park - Puhi; Advanced Novice Obedience and Performance Novice Obedience are usually held in the evening at K-Mart (rear parking lot). Each hour=long class meets once a week for ten (10) week.s
