Phoenix is looking for her forever someone! If you love to rock the trails, we've got your gal! Phoenix is a 14.1 hh, 17 year-old grade mare who is solid in her basics, including all three gaits, backing, and transitions on a loose rein, and is starting to get a few fancier buttons.

She is sound, loads easily, and stands for the farrier. She likes to move out, but can have difficulty standing still. She would do best not housed in a small stall since she has a tendency to stock up in her hind legs.

She needs an intermediate rider who can reinforce her training. She can be cinchy and will sometimes test new riders, for example, with an occasional buck into the lope.

Phoenix tends towards the dominant side. She does well with horses that acknowledge this and give her space when she asks for it, but doesn’t do as well in close company with other dominant horses.

If you're looking for an all-around solid horse to ride who's a lot of fun on trails, look no further! See our web link in our bio for more info!

Fennec update! 🐴❤️

This past weekend, we visited Fennec and Sister at their forever homes.

After this, we wanted to give you an update on Fennec specifically. Fennec came from a low-end livestock auction. As you can see in her before picture, Fennec was thin, scared, unhandled, and had an open wound on her leg. She still had blood in her tail from giving birth, but her baby didn’t make it off the trailer. Fennec was one of our longest residents who has taught many of our volunteers the basics of horse care and handling. She found a family who needed her to be a companion to their blind horse. Unfortunately their horse passed and Fennec came back to us. A short time later, one of our own (amazing) volunteers adopted her and Sister. Now they are both happy and healthy!

We are so grateful for our community and for Fennec and Sister’s forever family! ❤️

Chakora has been adopted! Wow! What a journey we have been on together 🩷 Chakora was part of a law enforcement seizure with 4 other horses (one didn't make it 😞) and two goats in 2022. She entered our care as an approximately 9 year old, unhandled mare. Late that summer, we started from scratch on learning how to be touched, haltered, and led. That winter Chakora moved to a local boarding stable that had an indoor arena where we could continue her training. By early spring of 2023, with near daily training sessions she had two easy, relaxed, and calm walks around the arena with her first rider on her back.

Just days after her second ride, Chakora had a sudden onset of neurological difficulties. Within a matter of a couple of hours, she went from perfectly fine, to her eyes spinning and her hind end falling in circles. She couldn't walk or stand easily without leaning or spinning. The vet was immediately called. We ran all the tests we could locally and started her on meds recommended by the vet, but in the next day and a half we only saw her getting worse. We knew it wasn't much longer before she would not be able to stand in a trailer, and our only hope for answers was a veterinary research hospital over an hour away.

We took the day off work, built a steady earthen ramp to the trailer, and six hours later we were on the road with Chakora and her best friend, Jian for good company. 3 more days of tests and the bills racked up. We came to you all for help and her videos reached millions of people. Donations came in to help us save our girl from all over the world 🌎🥹❤️

Chakora had a condition called THO and was the first patient at Colorado State University to have a double hyoidectomy (sorry, we don't have space to go into the condition here, but do have videos on our YouTube!).

Chakora had a year of intensive rehab until she was cleared for training. It's never easy to say goodbye, but we know Chakora is going to love riding in the mountains with a new family of her very own.

I could write a book about all of this, but I'm out of space so I will leave it here: this amazing horse and beautiful happy ending would not be here without you. Thank you

Tough to beat those fall sunsets 😍 the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler around here, but this can be one of the most beautiful times of year 🩷 The wind begins to die down and the afternoon thunderstorms ⛈️ are less frequent. For the most part, the mosquitos are all gone 🦟 and the leaves are starting to change 🍁The horses are starting to get all fuzzy 🥰 and of course, it's time to think about purchasing winter hay!!!! 😅😭😂

Fennec and Sister have found their forever homes! 🐴💗🐴

Fennec was one of our longest residents who has taught many of our volunteers the basics of horse care and handling. She had been a feral broodmare who was pregnant but lost her foal on the way to a low-end livestock auction with the rest of her herd. She came to us unhandled and timid but quickly came to love human contact! She found a family who needed her to be a companion to their blind horse. Unfortunately their horse passed some time later and Fennec came back to us. She is the sweetest soul who loves affection!

Sister was started under saddle at the age of 18. She then joined a wonderful family who loved her very much. Unfortunately, the family fell in hard times after moving from Oregon to Wyoming and could no longer care for Sister so she was surrendered to us. During her time with us we have worked to progress her training and help her feel more confident both under saddle and on the ground. She really does have a puppy dog personality and loves nothing more than to receive attention and scratches!

We are so happy for Fennec and Sister 💗
