And last but not least, meet “Dahlia!” Now the name Dahlia is a little off theme, but bear with us….First of all, to keep with the holiday spirit, Our little one has dubbed her “Dahila Candy Cane Drew” 🤣

The name Tulip came to be because it has always been one of my very favorite flowers 🌷. This year I began growing Dahlias and they are 100% the current favorite here….so in honor of her mama, meet Dahlia. (And it’s kinda an extra bonus that her grandma is Talia!)

If you haven’t guessed it yet. She stays. 😇🤣

I have a story to share with you all that I’d rather not tell. It’s kind that we breeders would rather forget…it’s a nightmare….the kind that sticks with you for a good long while….at least it will for me.

Yesterday afternoon was full of anticipation as we planned to welcome our latest batch of frenchie babies. Tulip was showing the signs of early labor, so we were thrilled that her planned C-section timing was practically perfect. The staff at the vet clinic began her surgery and we welcomed six GORGEOUS babies into the world….(4 boys, 2 girls, but more on that later)….with minimal effort everyone was breathing and crying (just what we want), umbilical cords tied off, babies cleaned up, checked over and placed in the incubator to wait on mama. Tulip bled a little more than normal but came through surgery with no red flags or apparent issues, just business as usual. She was brought out to recovery to wake up from the anesthesia. We were all just enjoying the pups and patiently waiting for her to perk up. This is where out of the blue our story takes a turn. Seemingly from nowhere Tulip quit breathing. The veterinary staff leapt into action and worked diligently, all hands on deck to save her. And after what felt like a very long time, but likely wasn’t, we accepted that she was gone. She was gone. My sweet Tulip is gone. 💔

I can’t thank the veterinary staff enough for their efforts, for trying so hard to save my girl, for crying with me and for staying late to help ensure our new babies had what they needed to come home with the best chance.

Being a breeder often means a front row seat to the circle of life. It means losing pups and even adult dogs. We know it. We’ve lived it. More times than I care to remember. A lot of those stories I hold close to my heart and don’t share here….often in the name of sparing you all the negative….but as I type this with tears streaming down my face, I think maybe it’s so I don’t have to relive them. 💔😭

2024 has proven one of the tougher years we have had as breeders and losing Tulip has wrecked me a bit.
