This week, we had the privilege of connecting with some of the best in the veterinary community—united by a shared commitment to learning and advancing equine care. 🐴

A true highlight for Dr. Kuesis was reconnecting with his Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine classmate, Dr. Laurie Goodrich.

Grateful for the knowledge shared and the relationships that continue to grow, all for the welfare of the horse. 🐴 🩺❤️

Thank you Zoetis for bringing us all together!

In light of recent horse thefts and natural disasters, this is a crucial reminder for all horse owners to microchip their equines. Easy to add to your wellness checks, or as a stand alone appointment.

Microchipping is a vital tool for reuniting horses with their owners after theft, natural disasters, and accidents. It also aids in monitoring animal movement, tracing animals during disease outbreaks, and preventing fraud at competitions.

⭐️Why Microchip Your Horse?
Permanent Identification: Microchips provide a tamper-proof ID that lasts a horse’s lifetime.
⭐️Easy Procedure: Microchipping is quick, safe, and can be done during wellness checks.
⭐️Competition Compliance: Many breed registries and organizations require microchipping for competitions.
⭐️Advanced Features: Some microchips include temperature sensing technology for health monitoring.
🤓 How It Works
Microchips are small RFID devices implanted in the nuchal ligament on the left side of the neck.

🐴✨ Happy National Day of the Horse! ✨🐴

Let’s all take a moment today to reflect on the bond we share with horses—and maybe spoil them with a little extra love (and a few carrots 🥕 or low sugar treats for our IR friends)!

Did you know in 2004, Congress designated December 13th as National Day of the Horse to honor these magnificent animals and their contributions to our history, culture, and lives? 👏

Today, we join in celebrating the horses who continue to inspire us with their strength, beauty, and partnership.

At Mission Equine, we’re so grateful to work with these incredible animals and the owners who love them. Whether it’s helping horses thrive in their careers or supporting them through life’s challenges, we’re proud to care for these amazing creatures who give us so much in return.

‘Tis the Season for...Agonizing About Blanketing! 🌧️ 🐴 💨

Let’s be honest—how many afternoons have we all spent refreshing the weather app, debating which blanket our horse needs? Or if they need one at all? 🤔

Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
🌡 Check the temp highs & lows—remember, horses are better equipped to handle the cold than we are.
💨 Factor in wind and wet weather—wind chills and rain can make a big difference.
🦴 Consider age, health, and coat—older horses, clipped horses, and those with short coats may need more protection.

Still not sure what’s best for your horse? We’re here to help! Give us a call at Mission Equine for a personalized consultation to make sure your horse is comfy and protected this winter.

~ Meet Our Vets: Dr. Lauren Tryggvason ~

Hello everyone! I’m thrilled to join the Mission Equine team and bring my passion for equine veterinary care to the beautiful (and mostly sunny) Santa Barbara area!

Originally from Canada, my journey has taken me across the U.S. and the U.K. I earned a BSc (Hons.) in Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh in 2011, followed by a veterinary medicine degree from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, in 2015.

I’ve been captivated by horses since I was young, and my time working with the military horses and incredible vets of the Household Cavalry as a student inspired me to pursue equine veterinary medicine.

After qualifying, I spent two years in rural Norfolk, where I treated animals of all species, shapes, and sizes. I also worked as a small animal and equine locum in Berkshire and London. In 2018, I joined Emerson & Watson Ltd, an ambulatory equine practice in Ascot, UK, where I spent six amazing years caring for polo ponies, sport horses, and leisure horses.

Now, I’m excited to meet the wonderful clients and horses here in Santa Barbara! My professional interests include sports medicine, poor performance, behavior, ophthalmology, and acupuncture.

I can’t wait to get started and look forward to being a part of this amazing community. See you out there on the ranches and trails! 🐎
