Welcome Dr. Lauren Tryggvason!

Originally from Canada, Lauren grew up in a variety of locations across the United States and attended university in the United Kingdom. She received a BSc (Hons.) in Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh in 2011, followed by a degree in veterinary medicine from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 2015. Having ridden from a young age, Lauren has always been fascinated by horses and was inspired to become an equine veterinarian by her experience working with the military horses and wonderful vets of the Household Cavalry when she was a student. After qualifying, she spent her first two years in mixed practice in rural Norfolk, treating creatures of all species, shapes, and sizes, as well as small animal and equine locum work in Berkshire and London. In 2018, she joined Emerson & Watson Ltd, an ambulatory equine practice in Ascot, UK. She has enjoyed treating the polo ponies, sport horses, and leisure horses of the Berkshire area for the past 6 years, and is excited to be working with the Mission Equine team and meeting the clients and horses of (mostly) sunny Santa Barbara! Her areas of interest include sports medicine/poor performance, behavior, ophthalmology, and acupuncture.

Dr. Kuesis has been providing quality care to the horses of Santa Barbara since 2005.

Dear Clients and Friends,

Last year was a big transition for me with the sale of South Coast Equine to Mission Equine Associates. Working with the Mission Equine team, doctors and staff, has been a wonderful experience for me. There have been some challenges but we have continued to provide quality services and care to our clients and patients. Thank you all for making this transition successful.

Shelby and I are now making the next transition. We want to have more time to pursue our interests that working full time would not allow. We have many projects, goals and dreams we want to pursue. As of April 30th, I will no longer be working for Mission Equine. I will be pursuing a limited dental only practice on a referral basis.

I have been blessed to have worked in the Santa Barbara area for over 32 years and I have confidence that Dr. Haines, Dr. Kuesis and the Mission Equine staff will take care of all your veterinary needs with professionalism and compassion.

It is a sad day on the one hand, like the end of a chapter that you just don’t want to end, yet a new and exciting chapter is starting up. Please save the date of Sunday June 25, 2023 for a retirement celebration. (Details will be forthcoming!)

I will miss you and wish good health on you and your lovely beasts.
