Updates!! We have been working hard on the Syracuse buildings facelift!! New kennels, demos to the grooming area for 2 new bathtubs, and a new asphalt driveway coming in the next few days! We were hoping to be moved by Tuesday of next week but looks like we need to push it back another week. We are now looking at groomers being moved by September 13th instead of the 7th. We will be making phone calls to keep people posted on the location of their grooming appointments but at this point, next week we will still be grooming at the Leesburg location.

We’ve had some recent questions about our groomers moving to Syracuse. The groomers ARE moving to the Syracuse location (9326 N. 500 E. Syracuse) and we hope to have them there by September 7th. We will be calling to inform clients of any changes to the location of their appointment a couple days before. We will keep everyone posted through Facebook also. Announcement

Effective September 7th, 2021, The Dog House and The Field House located in Leesburg will be closing. The property on State Road 13 has been sold to a private purchaser. The Dog House boarding and grooming will continue at our Syracuse location. We have started reaching out to all clients with reservations on the schedule for the Leesburg location to communicate this change and accommodate those reservations at the Syracuse location.

The decision to downsize our business was a tough one that we have been debating for quite some time now. We do want to clarify that this is not a result of not having enough business or related to COVID. Our customers are fantastic and their support and commitment to The Dog House and our staff is a huge reason why we made it through COVID and emerged strong on the other side.

It really boils down to two "Why" questions. Why is this a good thing for our business? Why is this a good thing for our family?

Believe it or not this is a good thing for our business. When we expanded to two locations and opened The Field House is was in response to demand we had from our customers. Our purpose is to provide loving, high quality care and training that made our customers know that their pet was going to be cared for by us like they were our own. Sometimes operating our growing business caused us to focus more on day to day operations other than why we got into business in the first place. Consolidating will let us get back to having fun and ensuring that your pets are our primary focus.

This is also a family decision. Since the day Ashley opened this business in October 2011, she has given her heart and soul to it. This means that she's working 7 days a week managing a great team, 3 buildings, organizing events and trials, walking dogs, cleaning and everything else you can think of. Despite this she's also managed to be a great mom to two boys who are suddenly about to turn 12 and 14. We're quickly running out of time with them at home and there has already been far too many baseball games, swim meets, and events that have been missed.

We hope that you understand and are patient with us over the next several weeks as we make this transition. If you have any questions please feel free to call or email.

This Spring Break our guests got in touch with their wild side! The side the loves the smells of campfires, pine and fish. The side that would love to go mark 100 trees and roll around in weird smells. But honestly, we think a few are more like glampers at heart and prefer a soft bed in a warm RV.
I’m still getting a few pics here and there but this was the majority of them and I know you were all so excited to see where your fur kids went! If you don’t see your dog or dogs on here, I’m still trying!

Look at all these smiling faces! I’m still working on our “spring break theme” pictures but should have them posted in another day or two. Our theme pictures take quite a bit of work because we want our dogs to enjoy their stay and some dogs do not enjoy having their pictures taken. We use cheese, hotdogs and squeaky toys to get a smiling face on the dogs. If that isn’t good enough we don’t push them. So if you don’t see your dogs picture posted don’t be sad, just know we tried but some dogs just don’t like being in front of the camera!

Only a couple more days before our new class “Beyond Basic” starts and we still have a couple spaces open! It's a 4-week class on Wednesdays at 6:30PM, starting March 10 (limited to 6 teams). Cost of the class is $85. The class will provide introductions to targeting, agility, rally, and tricks, to shake off the winter blues.

Duties will include: feeding, cleaning kennels, mopping, laundry, supervising daycare dogs, checking clients in/out, yard pick up and, yes, snuggling puppies. Last call potty breaks at 9 tonight plus a little play group so they sleep good.

This is what it looks like when we “release the hounds!” for play time. Slow motion and cinematic music for full effect of course.

We have a bunch of people ask “what’s next” after puppy or basic obedience class. So much can happen next!! If you are needing some fine tuning or just want to continue with more obedience, we do offer intermediate obedience classes. This class works on impulse control and starts off leash skills. I will attach some pictures and video of our current intermediate class that meets on Thursday evenings. The pictures are from the 4th week of class(in comments). They are doing great!!! If you think obedience is boring but want to continue in training, we have agility, flyball, barn hunt, lure coursing and nosework available too!

Took this video last week sometime. This is usually what afternoon daycare looks like. Everyone is passed out except the doodles and the herding breeds! Lol

Spring break has started!!!

We will have an agility course set up tomorrow from 9-3 for anyone wanting to get some practice in.

Typical day at the office.

Barn hunters!! We will be having practice this Saturday from 9-12 for beginners and 12:30-3:30 for advanced dogs. Also don’t forget to send in your entry forms for February 16-18! Three days of barn hunt fun with judge Bonnie Gutzwiler!

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Our boarding dogs had their Thanksgiving breakfast romp! Here is our large group this morning. We have a couple smaller play groups too that I️ will post later today.

Love, love, love running this dog!!! I'm pretty sure she is a border collie wrapped in a lab costume. 15 obstacles in 24 seconds and she has only been running with me for a few months! She will be ready for the agility ring when she hits 15 months old!

Another video of last nights intermediate class. This was the first night for this exercise. Working on impulse control and only breaking stay when asked to come by their handler.

This is my intermediate obedience group working on down stay with distraction. This is their 3rd week and they are doing awesome!!!

We will be having Barn Hunt practice tomorrow (yes, Friday) from 2-6. If you would like to help build the course we will be setting up at 1. We will be outside so dress warm. New dogs to barn hunt are welcome. I'm going to try to have a practice Saturday from 3-5 also.
