Spring 🌷 is finally upon us 🥰

Now is the time to get your horses their yearly dental checks. Balanced & healthy mouths are more important than JUST maintaining a good weight. A good mouth makes for a good ride too 😎

I have a few spots left for the end of May, but i am mainly into June now 😊

I'm ALWAYS taking new clients. Pm me or call/text 989-493-0470

Making this trip on Saturday, April 12th with openings in the afternoon.
I can take anyone who's along or slightly off this route 😊
I likely won't be downstate again until fall so this is your chance! New clients will have the opportunity to be put on a regular yearly or 6 month rotation 😁
Spring IS coming, let's make sure your horses feel their best coming out of this long, hard winter ❤️

The importance of twice per day small feedings vs one large meal once a day. Lengthy read but worth the time!! ⬇️

Pictured is my personal gelding who will be 27 in 4 months. The top picture is from October 15th when I was still self boarding. The bottom was yesterday, December 8th where he has now lived at my house and been on twice daily feedings for 6 weeks (tomorrow)

When I self boarded, I could only get there once a day. He was on free choice hay and approximately 8 lbs of alfalfa/beet pulp pellets combined and Tribute sport senior.

Since moving and being able to switch to two feedings twice a day, he still is on 24/7 free choice hay and his feed has been cut in half to about 4 lbs per day of the same feed. No fancy supplements for weight gain, etc.

His teeth are what I would consider "decent" for his age with a couple things I'm dealing with to make them "better"

There is an incredible difference in his weight. Note the topline, shoulders, hip and girth specifically. This is the best he has looked in about 2 years.
*NOTHING* has changed, besides REDUCING his grain and going to twice a day feedings.

This horse is ridden regularly as well by a 5 & 6 yr old, has arthritic knees (per vet needs to always stay in work), is on vitamin e & msm and is sound. Nothing else, because less is usually more for our horse friends!

Smaller, more frequent meals are much easier for a horse to digest. Horses are meant to eat slowly over a long period of time. They are supposed to eat 20 of 24 hours per day

Not everyone can provide multiple feedings a day (ME 🙋‍♀️ for many years) and you make do with what is available to you and your horse. However, if it's an option where you board, if your horses live at home with you, I HIGHLY recommend it if you have one struggling with weight!!

Of course, proper dental care is also key to making sure those seniors in your pasture maintain their weight.

I'm always taking new clients 😊

The year is winding down and now is the time while we still have mild weather to get your horses' teeth checked 😁

Remember, just because they are a good weight does NOT mean their teeth are healthy. If they haven't had an oral exam in the last year, now is the time to check them BEFORE they start having issues and lose weight. They lose weight fast and take forever to gain it back!!

I have a few spots left for November but mostly booking for December now.

Transformation Tuesday for this baby Missouri Fox Trotter 😍

Starlight was born 9-28-23 and was born with the beginning of a severe under bite. Left untreated, it would've caused her multiple issues eating throughout her life.

Her owners, K’Lorne Acres, Kindly Caring for Horses, had me out to look at her and we made the first adjustment to her under bite less than 🖐 five months ago.

I was SO happy to re check her in September, she is almost completely lined up! The next step will be monitoring how her adult teeth come in and making sure everything stays properly balanced.

You can achieve bone changes with issues like these - ESPECIALLY - in young foals. This will make a drastic difference to her quality of life in the long run.

Winter is coming, now is the time to get your horses checked!

Interesting tooth pulled a couple weeks ago out of an older mare.
When I first saw this mare 2 years ago, this tooth was considered "displaced" meaning it was out of line of the rest of her teeth.
She presented this time with difficulty chewing her food, balling up hay and grass, spitting it out, and weight issues.
You can see grass was compacting in the tooth & check out the crooked roots. No wonder it was displaced! She's feeling much better.

Always taking new clients. I am starting to plan downstate trips for this fall for the west side of the state, middle & east, message me now to get in on them 😊

A couple weeks ago I added a goat to my dental resume 🐐
It was interesting to find this goat had sharp points similar to horses. Her owner and I are really hoping her "dental" helps with her eating issues!
Contact Neehi Farm if you are looking for some really nice, registered, healthy goats 😊
I am always taking new clients, June is full but I have spots open in July

If you find yourself questioning whether or not your horse truly needs a yearly exam, this should clarify the need to do so!

Look at how much this pony's teeth and bone alignment have changed in just TWO years. He was 13 years old before any work was done, yet his mouth has been completely transformed with proper, slow corrections in a very short period of time in comparison.

The mouth can change a LOT in a year.

Spring 🌷 is rolling in!

It looks like we are going to be blessed with an early start to the riding season 🌼

Now is the time to think about getting your horses' annual dental exams scheduled.

Remember, dental issues do not just cause problems with eating, they affect the entire overall health and performance of the horse 😊

New video 🤗
This video covers the importance of having your dentist re-check your horses when they are displaying possible signs of dental imbalances - even if they've been done recently.

This is my personal gelding and I explain in depth in the video how long it's been since he was last done, WHY I thought he needed re-checked, and at the end share a 3 and a half week difference in his weight.

Trust your intuition! I, as a dentist, was even second guessing it could be his teeth but something kept telling me it was, so trust yourself and never be afraid to have their teeth re-checked! Especially the senior horses, things can change and change in a short amount of time as they get older.

Currently taking new clients! Make sure to get your horses checked before winter is here.

Remember they can burn up to 25% more calories in the winter. Every, single, day.

Here is a fantastic educational post about a couple different things in a 4 year old Quarter horse mare 👇

This mare clearly has a baby tooth that came in at a very poor angle. This horse was done in the spring and there was no mention of this tooth to her new owner, who noticed this tooth and asked me to come examine her before she leaves for training.

There is an argument to be made here, the horse is almost 4 and a half, and will shed this tooth in the next 6 months. Perhaps that is why the previous dentist left the tooth.

HOWEVER, this mare presented with symptoms that the tooth is bothering her. Her new owner stated she doesn't seem as interested in grain as she should be and specifically will not eat grass.

The main objective of a horse's incisors are to grab and tear food, grass especially requiring this movement. With the symptoms this horse is presenting in addition to the angle of this tooth, we can deduce that the tooth is causing her pain and needs to be removed now vs waiting for the horse to shed it on her own.

We removed the tooth and the horse is doing much better. Because the horse was in pain, it's better to remove the baby tooth now rather than wait for the poor girl to shed it on her own. It also will ensure her adult tooth can come in cleanly.
