After years of performing with various other reenactment groups, one of the other performers came to me and said he thought we could do better. The decision was made that history could be presented in a way as to be historically accurate, entertaining, yet self supporting; so on that, the concept of The Horse Thief Canyon Desperados was formed. The name was for

med referencing a local landmark . Of our performers, we require a high degree of commitment, dedication and regimen: Consequently we have a large personnel turnover. We have performed at barbecues for Senators and congressmen, Picnics, weddings, grand openings, birthdays, School presentations and many other kinds of “political incorrectness” with a western flair. We also participated with a team that won the Nevada State and Southwest regional championship in competition, for the Old West Living History Foundation. Included in our presentation we have a safety demonstration on fi****ms and the training involved that goes along with using them safely in the show because SAFETY, both ours and our audiences is our number one concern. we maintain business licenses and two different kinds of insurance, one of which is backed by Lloyd's of London through the N.R.A. So... Why do we do all this? Why have we spend countless hours studying history, putting together authentic attire, building props and writing and rehearsing material for our shows? Why do we get up before the chickens, drive miles to perform all day in the hot sun and fall down in mud puddles, only to get home at the hoot owls Bed times? Is it because we just love living history? Well it’s not exactly that simple. For the most part, through all this, we meet some of the greatest people on the planet, and without them this all would be largely for naught. So all we can do is the best job we know how, to say “Thank You” for making this all worth while. Of course we welcome your input, because over the years, one thing that has been learned is, nothing is ever perfect. And if it is, then, something is wrong.

So the Horse Thief Canyon Desperados bid farewell and gentile passage to Karen Jamie Mortensen. “Pearl Heart”. She was with us in The Desperado Coalition, who robbed the train and acted in many shows and parades in the area. The last show she did with the Nevada State Fair, where we won second place for entertainment. The angels took her January 4th at 1:30 . Our wedding was on the platform of the Gold Hill train Station, and we robbed the train all the rest of the day. She was very upset when, due to her heart operation, and other illnesses, she could no longer perform with us. But there will be shows in heaven and she she can perform as long as she wishes.

Please pray for Ross S Mortensen and his family. Ross is a military veteran, a real life Cowboy and rancher, as well as an actor and an incredibly good man. Ross was part of the cast of my film as well. His wife passed away yesterday after a long battle with various illnesses. R.I.P. 🙏✝️
