I adore teaching this bright 9 year old. This is her 4th riding lesson. She says she wishes she had started when she was younger. Jasper took care if her. I had her on a lead most of the Lesson. Took it off at the end for going after the ball. And plenty of time for hugs at the end.

Jasper being patient as he teaches a student communication between horse and handler. This is hard stuff. I know I make it look easy but it's hard. On the other hand if you plan on riding a flight animal you really need to learn to communicate. Good job!

Sharing is caring, while the boys were eating this grass, Cachina was not interested, and stayed at the round bale.

Was helping with separation anxiety. Some have suggested, that their horse just seeing me(After meeting me once before) will be on best behavior. And asked for a cardboard cut-out of me to place by horses pen, stall, hot walker. Lol.

Wow, a new student doing turns to the right for his very first time. Even with my horses that are pretty well trained this is usually pretty difficult for students.

Not all whips are bad, or mean go forward. It's the intent. (Read me, since I am reading you)! The use of whips is important in initial training. I can reach where I need to, to teach a young horse many things. Go forward, but wait for a cue. Don't run to escape it. You will have time to respond. More time than another horse would give you if you didn't move.

Fig will be going back to his home this week. He's coming along great! We had to go a little slower than usual because of trust issues he had on the ground. This required a thoughtful starting under saddle, to avoid bringing them along while being ridden. Gabriella has been instrumental in helping Fig along to be comfortable on his off side, going forward nicely at the trot. In this clip you'll see I am not holding the lead rope tightly not forcing. In cross ties, or stall a horse feels trapped and will submit as he really can't escape (if he really wants to he can expload) Same with getting saddled etc. Cross ties are for convenience, once a horse accepts these things and is comfortable.

New student taking his first riding lesson at Bobcat Farm. Plus it's his very first time on a horse. (After having a horsemanship lesson with Frostbite previous to this) ba****ck because he has sneakers, if your in stirrups you need a boot or shoe with a heel to ride. Now, I've ridden in moccasins but I am a professional. I get to make the rules.

My first time trotting Figgy for me.
My assistant trainer Gabriella Ferraz in her very first role as such, while she's home from college, rode the fresh off him first lol. He was actually really good from start to finish. Here I am showing the good the bad and the ugly lol. We are going to work on leg yields now that we've added leg. I like to refrain from using leg with the first few rides to avoid engaging the launch sequence. He would not have tolerated even a little leg with his first ride. Had trust issues especially going to the right. Really happy with his progress.

Two new students today, and FigAll did amazing especially my old student lol. I didn't get permission to post yet.

Father daughter duo taking a horsemanship lesson. Getting ready to go trail riding at a rental place or a dude ranch type deal. Hope I did not scare them too much. Those places are dangerous. Why?Because horses are dangerous on their best day. Why? Because they are 1000 lb bunny rabbits. Run first, ask questions later. Do they stand to be mounted? Can you stop them from riding up the horse in front of yours butt? Do you know how to steer them away from a tree, woodchuck hole? You have a bunch of greenhorns waiting to get on their horse, being helped by workers that don't get paid enough. That don't really care about safety. Or they wouldn't be putting people that kick and pull on horses that will still just do what they want. It's all a good time until it isn't. Well I'm glad they were smart enough to get some education before going out. One horsemanship lesson or riding lesson on a good horse is not enough. You could get lucky, or it could end in a wreck
I've heard way too many stories that start with "I went riding once"... You would not be able to go rent a plane and fly it after watching a few you tube videos, or taking one or two lessons, unless you are some kind of genius. Imagine a airport that took people out in groups.
Here's your plane, here's one for you, and for you. Just pull back to go up, push forward to go down. Have fun! That's the instruction you get to go riding. Here's the reins pull back to stop, kick to go! This duo started out rocky and did great!!!! So much to learn. Riding is so much fun! But let's learn to communicate with them before we climb on.
