I’ve posted this picture before, but this team (and this is only the Utah half), has become family.
Everyone of these folks puts everything they have to making our company as successful as possible.
We have grown very fast in the last year-plus, going from 3-4 handlers between California and Utah to currently boasting over 20 employees across the country.

When you find those that care as much as you do, you hold them close.

Sorry... sorta long gratitude post...

There are times I will stop and think about what I've done to deserve the people around me. Then I watch all these people, committed to what they are doing, spend their holiday weekend learning, training, taking in all the knowledge being shared by experts and it reminds me how grateful I am to have such amazing people surrounding our team.

I owe so many Thanks to so many people.

Ryan Millbern from International Casino & Resort Working Dog Association, Thank you for sharing your time, knowledge and energy. Even though we knew it was training, seeing the handlers responses to a very stressful situation was a reality check for all of us.

David Adibembe from ScentLogix and SCENTSOURCE for your time, teaching the practitioners about how their dogs understand odor, how it works, and get them thinking more about odor science.

Eric Byrd from Kinetic Dog Food, you had so many people thinking about what we feed our dogs, how we monitor a dogs health, and understanding that just giving our dogs something to eat, might not be what they need to be at the top of their game.

When you realize how far you’ve come.

When I started High Definition K9 in 2019, I never dreamt that 4 years later we would be taking team pictures with half of our team, and that half is 9 handlers.

The other half is in California, and a couple in Florida. We are working multiple festivals, NBA arenas, concerts, private events, and more all over the country.

I am so proud of the time these folks put into training, the pride they take in their work, and the fun we have together.

Thanks to everyone involved, Philip with Confidential Canine for taking a chance with me to together build a group we can count on and trust. The future is bright, and we are only just getting started!

It’s been over a month since I got a good day of training with everyone. My travel schedule had me gone the entire month of April.
Getting all the dogs out and working in a completely new building we’ve never worked in before was awesome!
All of the Team K9 dogs were on point, everyone has been working hard and are all ready for summer!
K9 Leara was on-point and didn’t skip a beat, Cypher was a rockstar and impresses me every time I get her out and Amber has been putting in a ton of time with Toretto and he looked really good!
It was great to see Kenai back out after his mysterious illness, and he doesn’t look like he missed any time!
Great job to everyone!!

Made our yearly trek to the desert of California to work alongside our friends at The 9th Shield Inc for 2 weeks of Coachella and a week of Stagecoach.

Teams from Confidential Canine, High Definition K9 and many others came from across the country (literally) to work all 3 weeks.

The wind was crazy, the heat was brutal, but all 50-ish dog teams that worked, helped to make the festival a safe success.

Here’s to year 3, and on to the next!

We’ve been working with Shaneel and Kenai for the last few months preparing for his certification in explosives detection. Since moving to ScentLogix training aids, we’ve noticed his search intensity is much higher. He is learning to follow a larger scent cone to source and work the area much better. We are able to do hides that are deeper, (farther back away from the “walking path”) as well as higher above and he is finding them quicker and with no help. This video is from a couple weeks ago when we purposely worked outside with a good wind, cars going by, etc. A couple notes on the video… * The wind is actually blowing Left to Right so the dog started up-wind from the odor. We did this on purpose. * The odor is placed in the metal grating about 30 inches back in from front and side from where the dog sits, and had been there about 10 minutes. * The handler is very new and is still learning. (She couldn’t see the odor when she looked, but we reinforced the “Trust your dog” on this one. * Just before the dog indicates, you’ll see him literally “pull” the handler up the side of the metal grating to source. Great job Shaneel and Kenai!! You guys are killin’ it!!

Had to get Leara some new shoes for her upcoming work… gotta keep the feet protected. So we put them on her and ran a few hides to be sure she wouldn’t be too over distracted to search… she wasn’t… Still hunted like a machine and love seeing her head-whip at the end! Took a break from serious training tonight and took the littles dock diving for their first time in the pool! Toretto was a little bit cautious and had to figure out the whole “jump in the water” thing, while Cypher just didn’t give 2 craps. She picked up on the whole run-jump thing super fast! Huge thanks to Theresa and Craig for the opportunity to come down and play in the water. Every dog starts somewhere… this was maybe the 4th short session for Toretto. He is starting to learn non-verbal positioning using only luring with treats and a marker when he gets paid in the right position. On the last one, I step into the position to pay him. I want him to understand where we are in relation to each other when he gets paid. We will refine and work on making him move into position later, but for now we are simply creating a picture. Leara has always been trained to be neutral to people when working. But when the odor is on people, it’s a whole new thought process… we got the chance while working in Las Vegas last week to do a little training with our team and the help of folks from ICRWDA.
