Thank you WKDQ for picking up Carson and Ellie’s story.
This heartwarming story shows animals' resiliency and how a little compassion can change a life (or two)!
Carson and Ellie were released today. They have a big lake to swim in and people who love them to look out for them. Carson was excited to be in the water. Ellie was excited to make some new friends.
Ellie is learning how to dive. She just discovered it today had has splashed water everywhere. Lol. And Carson is now standing flat footed with BOTH feet in the tub! He hasn’t done that since we got him. I think they are making huge progress and hopefully can be released soon.
Ellie and Carson are enjoying some sunshine today. Ellie keeps getting in and out of l the water bowl. And Carson is starting to walk. It’s weak but he is taking multiple steps at a time. Keep praying for Carson and Ellie.
Ellie is getting so big. And Carson is doing better on his rehab. He didn’t wanna eat for the first several days. So he lost quite a bit of weight. But Ellie has given him a new to fight. He’s eating more and getting stronger. Today he stood up for the first time without having to spread his wings. And actually stood footed on both feet for a few seconds. Then pivoted and himself about a quarter of a turn. He stood for 20 seconds and shifted his weight on his bad foot. I called that progress. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we can release them back into the wild where they belong.
Well bad news is that Carson was not accepting little Vickie. He was nipping at her and that’s not a good thing. So we spent 3hrs trying to find her a foster family. After half a dozen attempts we found a family that adopted her. Their babies are a little larger than Vickie but the parents had accepted her as their own. We are so relieved to have found her a family. Please pray that Vickie can keep up with her older siblings. She’s half the size of some of them. She needs to rest more than they do. But shes determined to make this family hers. And the parents are waiting for her when she trails behind. Thankfully the family is a double family that has 4 adults so that means twice the chance of success. Pray for Vickie’s success.
Don’t water them after midnight or they multiply. LOL. Got another call today fro animal control with another orphan. We drove all over trying to find a family but they were all tucked away for the evening. So now we have 3 guests. Carson has adopted Vickie now too. So we have Carson Ellie and Vickie. Hopefully this s the last call of the year.
Oh and Carson stood on his foot by himself for 19 seconds! That’s a record for him. I think he is making progress. We did a warm bath again tonight but he was worried about his babies so it was short. He is a wild goose and doesn’t like being in captivity. I can’t wait to oblige him and release him and his new family.
Carson and Ellie are doing ok. Carson stood on his leg for a few seconds today. I have hope that he will regain use of his legs. Please keep praying for them.
So we were worried about Ellie the Gosling since she didn’t have any luck with the first two foster families we found. And when we tried getting her to eat some grass we noticed she kept following humans. That’s dangerous for goslings. That means she’s in danger of imprinting on humans and wouldn’t be able to be released. So we tried something crazy. We spent hours introducing Carson (the one recovering from a back injury) to Ellie (the orphan). And Carson accepted the baby. Now we really need prayers for Carson! He has a daughter to raise. So he needs his legs to be healed. Please pray for Carson and Ellie!!!! By the way. Look closely at the photo. Look at Carson’s tape under his wings. Ellie is tucked in snug and warm.
URGENT****
We need to find a goose family with babies this size in hopes they will adopt her. Geese need families. They stay with them for 2 years. She needs a family asap. The longer she’s with humans the harder it will be to get a family to take her. Please let us know if anyone sees babies this size. By the way we named this one Ellie.
It has been a busy start to this season. We have had half a dozen calls this week and it’s only Wednesday. This little guy was rescued after his nest was attacked and his mom taken by a predator. There were 2 eggs salvaged. Hopefully the rehabber can help them. I know she got another one this size the same day that was orphaned so at least they won’t be alone. Please help spread the word about wildlife. This is the nesting season for most birds and animals. They need us to be aware of them as they try to teach their little ones how to survive. Slow down in parks, be on the lookout near bodies of water and be patient when they are crossing streets.
Say hi to Carson. Our first rescue of the season. This big guy was attacked by a predator and it plucked some of his back feathers and he has some nerve damage. Hopefully we can regain the use of his legs. Doc said there is a 3 week window of recovery. If he will walk again it will be in 3 weeks. So we are doing our best to give him his best shot at recovery. Prayers are needed for this guy. .
A dangerous pro-puppy mill bill has been introduced in the Indiana House of Representatives. We need your help to stop it TODAY!
From our friends at North Texas Wildlife, whatever state you're in, you can Google wildlife rehabilitators in your state. For here in Pennsylvania the website is pawr(dot)com. Sorry I have to write it that way as links tend to not get shown to followers! Please stay safe and warm as this next week is looking pretty awful 😥
The offer is part of the ‘Empty the Shelters’ event that runs through October 15th.
We got another notice that there is a goose with fishing line at garvin park too. Can anyone help?
Anyone near Burdette park that can help with a rescue? We have a goose with fishing line near the playground. Needs help
Does anyone have a lake or pond on their property that we can release a goose on? This one came to us today and appears to be dehydrated (wasn’t near any water). I think it should be ready for release soon. But since there was no water near where it was found I would like to release it somewhere that has water. ***We need permission from the land owner to release it to a property. So please make sure we have property owner’s approval. Please don’t just suggest public parks as the parks department is working to reduce the goose population and won’t approve it.
Just one week left for our match and a super long way to go. We can do this with everyone's help🥰🥰🥰 Info below!
Please keep your pets safe!!!

Anyone able to check on a goose at Garvin park with fishing line around its leg? We got a report but I just reinsured my shoulder and can barely raise my arm. If I found it I couldn’t catch it.
There are animals in heaven! In 2019 my cousin Steve Pike was in a coma for 2 days. During that time he was given a glimpse of heaven and hell. He saw animals in heaven too. And he was told to come back and tell what he witnessed. His boil is available on Amazon and Barns &Nobels in both digital and paperback forms. A portion of the proceeds goes to help the Garvin Foundation too!!
In 2019 I was placed in a medically induced coma for 2 days. During that time I was given a glimpse of heaven and hell. I was told to take note of all I saw and heard. Then I was told to come back and tell people about what I witnessed. I will be the first to admit that I am not a writer. In fact...
Don’t be an accidental kidnapper. Every year during spring and summer rehabbers are overran with orphaned babies. But not all are orphaned. Some are just lost. And usually their parent is nearby. Before you panic look around for the baby’s family. In the case of ducks and geese look for a family or a body of water nearby. Most of the time there is one closer than you think. Search under bushes and around flower gardens for nests. Don’t kidnap a baby thibking it’s orphaned until you have exhausted all efforts to find the family. We just had one this evening that was found at a local restaurant. We went back to the restaurant and found a lake right behind it and there was a family with goslings the exact same size. We knew it was the family and we’re able to reunite him with his family. Unfortunately, we are not always this lucky. Sometimes the family will move the family because one of the babies was taken. So please always check before you accidentally kidnap a baby animal.
Well we found a family for our little Kernel. He was l
Adopted to a good family on a private lake. He now has 5 siblings. They are a little older than he is. But the family gladly took him in. Photos are hard to take while keeping a distance. But he is in ther.

Got this little guy today. He needs a home. We found a goose family with babies about the same age so we are going to try to rehome him. We are calling him Kernel. He is so sweet. #garvinrescueskernel #canadagoose #gooserescue
Update: we named this little guy Jumper because he kept trying to jump out of the kennel. Anyway he has been adopted to a family at Diamond Valley Lake. He is a little smaller than the other babies but the parents have already accepted him and are already making sure he doesn’t stray away. Fingers crossed this works. Anyone that goes to the park please keep us posted! Needing to find a family of Canada Geese in the area with babies this size. We are hoping to find a family that will adopt this little orphan.
Frankie was released today and rejoined her family. #garvinrescuesfrankie #duckrescue
Frankie is enjoying her first bath in four days. her leg and foot looked good enough that it’s safe to let her in the water. She has splashed until our floor is soaking wet. Lol #garvinrescuesfrankie #duckrescue
Tinkerbell and Peterpan have been released and found a new adopted family!! #garvinrescuestinkerbell #garvinrescuespeterpan #thegarvinfoundation #canadagoose
Well Tinkerbell gave us quite a scare yesterday. While we were at work she managed to pin herself between the water bowl and the kennel. She had aparently been like that for several hours. Her little wing was pinned behind her and swollen. But thankfully the swelling has finally gone down and she just has a few bumps and booboos. pray for their continued healing. #garvinrescuestinkerbell #garvinrescuespeterpan #canadagoose
Movin up to a bigger kennel. They are growing so fast that they needed more space. So we made them a double wide with two kennels. #garvinrescuestinkerbell #garvinrescuespeterpan #canadagoose
They are getting so big! Tinkerbell’s eye is better. Now we are just waiting for Peter Pan to finish his round of antibiotics. Peter Pan’s foot looks so much better now too. He will always have a limp as his toes didn’t reset properly. But he will be able to have a long healthy life. #garvinrescuespeterpan #garvinrescuestinkerbell #canadagoose
Peter Pan & Tinkerbell enjoying a day outside. We don’t have an outside kennel so this is the best we can do. They love the free-range grass and the sunshine. #garvinrescuestinkerbell #garvinrescuespeterpan #canadagoose
Warning. Cuteness overload! Well the siblings Tinkerbell and Peter Pan are really enjoying bath time tonight. This is the first time we put them together. It’s always dangerous to put two geese or ducks together that have injuries as they they may pick on one another. But tonight it seemed to work! #garvinrescuestinkerbell #garvinrescuespeterpan #canadagoose
Alvin got released today. He has been getting stronger and stronger. He is so strong we can barely contain him to handle him when giving medicine. So we decided he was strong enough to release. Go Alvin Go!! #garvinrescuesalvin #gooserescue #canadagoose
Alvin started standing on his own today and even managed to turn himself around a few times. Then he started preening his feathers which is a very good sign. He still has a way to go but we still celebrate every little victory. #garvinrescuesalvin #gooserescue #canadagoose
Say hello to Alvin. He will probably be with us for awhile. Alvin has some sort of metal in his gut that is causing metal poisoning. If untreated it is fatal in birds. We will do our best to help him. As you can tell he can’t even sit up straight. Please pray for Alvin! Metal poisoning is a tough thing to recover from. #GarvinrescuesAlvin. #canadagoose #gooserescue
We just released Coco & Greg today. They were getting restless in their kennels and both were doing so well. We were concerned if we kept them much longer that they wouldn’t be able to build up enough strength and practice flights for their migration. They do several practice flights months ahead of time to prepare themselves for it. So hopefully we gave them a fighting chance. Thanks again to our volunteers for all your help!! #garvinrescuescoco #garvinrescuesgreg #gooserescue #ilovegeese
Sometimes after a long hard day at work the thought of going home and giving a goose a bath seems exhausting. But moments like this make it all worthwhile. A week ago Coco was so sick that when we put her in the water she would just sit completely still. Now she’s preening and dunking and splashing. I don’t even mind the fact that my floor and walls (and my clothes and my shoes) are soaked when I see such great recovery it just makes me smile. Makes it all worth it. And Coco wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for our amazing volunteers! Thank you all for your dedication! ❤️ we couldn’t do what we do without our amazing volunteers thank you Theresa Driskill and Rachel Dudley for capturing and transporting Coco. And a special thanks to The amazing team at Advent Veterinary Services Dr. Thomas Kilbane Dr. Vivian Ramos. #garvinrescuescoco #gooserescue #ilovegeese

The Garvin Foundation was started by the Pike Family. The we love animals. It all started simply by feeding the geese and ducks at the park. Then one day we saw a goose that had fishing line on it's foot. With the help of friends we captured it and cut the goose's foot free. What seemed like a one time rescue became a routine with them as we captured goose after goose that was in danger.
One day we saw a goose laying on the ground that couldn't get up. Thinking it was another fishing line problem we captured the goose only to find out it was much worse. After a trip to the vet we found out that the goose we lovingly named "Garvin" suffered from metal poisoning, a concussion, and severely bruised organs.
Numerous attempts were made to save young Garvin's life. But less than two weeks later we mourned the loss of our beloved Garvin. Garvin's loss hit home so badly that we decided to do something about it. We worked to form the Garvin Foundation. To educate, nourish, rescue, and protect our feathered friends. Garvin's loss will not be in vein. His loss will help other geese and ducks in our area stay happy and healthy.
We didn't form the Garvin Foundation to ask for money but we do appreciate any donations. A simple $7 donation will by a 50lb bag of cracked corn and feed the geese at Garvin Park for a meal. A donation of $75 covers one visit to the vet (before any tests). $200 pays for x-rays and/or medicine. $1,600 pays for another net gun to help us capture the injured animals safely.
Please note that we are still working on filing for non-profit status for the Garvin Foundation. So unfortunately at this time any donations made will not be tax deductible. We will keep you posted and let you know when we receive our non-profit status. Until then, we are taking donations through our personal paypal and GoFundMe accounts. We promise you that all funds you dontate are used only for the Garvin Foundation ONLY. You can also purchase a bag of bird seed or cracked corn and drop it off at Pike's Mattress.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP! Whether you help through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or spreading our mission through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.
