Checking depth before setting the net is a good idea! 🧊 Keeping it deep enough so it won’t freeze up later. Gotta be ready for winter!

Time to drop the fish net under the ice! 🐟❄️ Fall’s the best for stocking up, thin ice makes it easy to set up, and the cold makes a perfect freezer! This year’s new trick is setting the net with the current to catch even more. Soon, hopefully, we’ll have enough fish for us and the pups to get through winter!

For centuries, the Inuvialuit have crafted ‘Mukluks’ to conquer the challenges of the Arctic and navigate through the biting cold. ❄️ Don’t mistake them for just cozy, protective boots, they are so much more! They carry the tales of countless adventures across the wide tundra.

🏔️ With every stitch, they embody the changing seasons, from sunlit summer days ☀️ to the enchanting darkness of winter nights. 🌙 Passed down through generations, Mukluks connect us to the past, preserving the wisdom and heritage of the Inuvialuit people.

So, when you stumble upon a pair of Mukluks at our tepee, take a moment to appreciate their silent storytelling. They are the unsung heroes of Inuvik’s history, a reminder of the strength and spirit of our ancestors. Let their legacy guide your footsteps as you embark on your own Arctic adventures! ⛺️🚶‍♀️

🐾 Dog of the Week: PIPSI 🐾📢

🎂 Birthday: Jan. 29th, 2023

Hi, I’m Pipsi! My name means ‘Dried Fish’ in Inuvialuktun, and guess what? Fish is all I eat in the summer! 🐟 Come winter, I lead the race team with my sister Siku. I can run in front of the sled all day and look forward to longer dog sled adventures. Until I grow old, I’ll enjoy the Arctic, running with my pack and waiting to be called Pudding Grams one day! 👵🏼🐕

Beware of the teeth, they said! That grin isn’t just for show, they said! Pikes can have 300 to 700 teeth, both needle and fang-like, up to 1 inch long. It’s one of the first things we remind our visitors of when they arrive.

Something to keep that in mind when reeling the next one in, and be careful! 🎣

🪵 Ever seen a traditional sod house before? If not, this is how they look! Built by the Inuvialuit people for the long winter months, using driftwood and sod to shelter their families from the cold and dark winters.

Imagine snuggling up inside one of these during those long Arctic winters! It couldn’t have been easy, but at least the thick sod walls were designed to keep the cold out. 🏠

Meet 🥁🥁🥁 IKUUN! 🐕✨

Birthday: Jan. 29th, 2023

My name means ‘Skin Scraper’ in Inuvialuktun. I’m a great lead dog, especially when I have another sled to follow. I love to pull, but if I’m having a rough day, I ‘might’ start a little ruckus while pulling. When I’m not leading the pack, you’ll find me playing with my younger siblings who are still learning the ropes.

Oh, and did I mention I’m always smiling? 😄
