Instructor/Trainer

I grew up with dreams of Eventing. I loved the trails, the freedom of a gallop and the thrill of fences. Initially the dressage element didn’t appeal to me. It was the arduous part of training. But in college I acquired a Thoroughbred mare that had tremendous athleticism, but no mental connection to her rider. So for everyone’s safety, I was limited to the ring. It was then that I discovered the art of dressage. The techniques to develop the relationship first, and the comunication that would lead to the skills required for the sport. I was fortunate in the years that followed to have instructors that had been certified by the Cadre Noir. The principles of suppleness, self carriage and lightness were instilled in me. Slowly, the headstrong mare became a dance partner. I discovered what it was to truly listen to a horse not just tell her what to do; to find engagement, lightness and willingness with control.

For the next 20 years I was a professional horsewoman. I owned and operated a riding stable that included a lesson program. My teaching program included Dressage riders but also I taught the Centered Riding approach for beginning Hunter - Jumpers riders. Over the years my stable had many different programs that all coexisted at one facility. Our farm family were people who enjoyed our boarding facility, dressage training, Centered Riding children’s lesson program and summer camp, rescue program and equine therapy program. In 2017, my husband retired, we sold the farm and relocated to Tennessee. I had the idea of retiring, but that didn’t last long.

Although all horses are our teachers, there are some that when you look back on your career were who made that career possible. For me that horse was Andiamo. A beautiful Dutch Warmblood I purchased from one of my boarders. He had been competed through the levels and “retired” to me as an Intermediare 1 show horse. He was a master. The kind of horse you have the privilege of owning once in a lifetime. He taught me the beauty of the upper movements, natural engagement and the tempe changes in an effortless dance.

My instructors over the years deserve mention; I have trained with some of the best dressage trainers including Daryl Ifkovik, Lendon Gray, Jean Luc Cornille and Bettina Drummond.
