Warning: this will be a long post and a picture overload!

Vanderburgh County Fair 2024 is a wrap! It was an amazing, heartbreaking, fun, emotional, happy and sad week. In other words a week of mixed emotions and learning to navigate a new normal without Billy.

Sometimes it takes a village or in my case a barn family! Thank you to everyone who helped and supported me all week!

Special thanks to Gabi for helping me transport horses and to Jessica and Ben for also helping transport horses, get hay, and doing all the little things that i know i don’t thank them enough for.

Thank you to Evan for getting the ranger there and colin for getting it home, helping get hay and take extra hay back home and just always being willing to help.

Huge thank you to Kenley Bonenberger with Bones Pet Sitting for taking care of the horses that were left at home. She is wonderful and if you ever need some one to take care of your animals, she is the best!

Thank you to Bobby and Natalie for letting me use your beautiful camper and setting it up and picking it up and for always being a shoulder to cry on when i loose it.

Thank you to all the fair kids and parents for supporting me, it was amazing to see everyone wearing Billy’s tshirt. I know i wasn’t at my best this week but they gave me grace and understood that it was a tough week for me. Also thank you to Stacy and Chris for getting and setting up the huge tent again this year!

Last but definitely not least i want to give a heartfelt thank you to Kristin Haire. I honestly don’t know what i would have done without her this week. She stayed at my house and took care of my dogs and animals in the mornings and some evenings, she helped me at all the show days helping kids, teaching patterns, giving them encouragement. She was amazing! There were times I just checked out and she was there taking over and doing everything that needed to be done. She was also an awesome co coach for color guard and even announced for the gaming day. i just can’t thank her enough for everything she did this past week!

I am so proud of all my students who competed this year! They all worked so hard and it really showed. I’m not going to post everyone’s placings but we really had a successful week!

🐴For those asking about what days would be good days to come watch and support the fair girls, here’s the schedule.🐴

🍀Tuesday July 23rd at 9:00 is english day
🍀Wednesday July 24th at 9:00 is Western day
🍀 Thursday July 25th at 9:00 is gaming day
🍀 Friday July 26th at 10:00 is versatility (I believe we will have 2 seniors and 2 juniors competing this year!)
🍀Saturday July 27th at 10:00 is the costume class and fun show

🇺🇸color guard will present colors at the beginning of the 3 show days and every night except Tuesday in the grandstands at the start of the main event🇺🇸

With the Fourth of July approaching, many horse owners are concerned about how their animals might react to fireworks. Below are some tips to help keep your pets and equine companions safe during the celebrations.

If your horses will be staying out overnight, now is the perfect time to inspect fencing and clear any hazards like rocks, branches, or holes that could cause injury if a horse starts running. If you’re particularly worried about your horse’s reaction, consult the office ahead of time about the potential use of calming agents or sedatives.

Regardless of your plans, always prioritize safety and be considerate of those around you, including both people and animals, so everyone can enjoy the festivities.

1. Secure Fencing:
🛠Check for loose boards, rocks, branches, or holes.
Ensure fencing is sturdy to prevent escape if horses get spooked.

2. Calming Agents:
💉Consult your veterinarian about the use of calming agents or sedatives.

3. Safe Environment:
🏠Consider keeping horses in a familiar, enclosed area to reduce stress.
Provide plenty of hay to keep them occupied.

4. Noise Reduction:
📻Use earplugs designed for horses or play soothing music to mask the sound of fireworks.

5. Monitor Your Horses:
👀Keep an eye on your horses during the evening.
Be prepared to intervene if they appear highly stressed or agitated.

6. Communication:
🧨Inform neighbors about your horses so they can be mindful when setting off fireworks.

🐴☀️Yesterday was our one day spa camp and we had so much fun! Besides riding horses spa day included bathing horses, conditioning mane and tail treatments, hair extensions, glitter stencils, makeovers, hoof treatments and making treats. 🐴☀️

💥Next Friday is our horse health camp and we still have openings! This camp will include learning how to take vitals, wrapping legs, treating wounds, horse care and nutrition and of course morning and afternoon riding!💥

A few pictures from the Warrick Saddle Club show yesterday. I just love this group of kids and their families. They make every show so much fun. They work hard and always have a positive attitude. I didn’t get pictures of everyone unfortunately, it was a busy day but I couldn’t be more proud! ❤️

This year besides our 3 day horse camps we will be offering (3) one day themed camps for ages 7 and up. Kids will ride horses at each camp as well doing themed learning activities.

Friday June 28th 10-3

*learn how take horses vital signs ( temp, heart rate, respirations)
*how to treat minor injuries
*wrapping legs
*learn about the teeth
*recognizing abnormal behavior and what should you do. When do you call the vet?
*nutrition and hoof care
*yearly vaccinations

*how to get horses cleaned up and looking nice for a show
*what tack you need for a show and how to clean tack.
*show clothes modeling
*learn about the classes and what you do in each class

Themed Camps are $100 per person and a $35 deposit is required to reserve your spot.

🐴SUMMER MINI HORSE CAMP🐴

We are offering a mini horse camp on Friday June 7th from 9-11 (ages 3-6) each child must be accompanied by a parent
**We will add other dates if this camp fills up**

The mini camp will include horse back riding, learning safety and basic care, painting a horse, and horse related crafts and games.

Mini camp is $55 per session. ($20 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot)
