Training for our summer Take Root interns started today! Very excited to have these young people on board and helping with summer camp next month!
Today we weeded the sweet potatoes and winter squash, and finally got shade cloth on one of the tunnels!

Looking at the garlic, it's about that time!
We've been keeping and planting our own elephant garlic for 5 years now, and it's a remarkably satisfying experience. These 600 bulbs will get pulled from the ground this week, and be available for purchase by the end of June. And if you're lucky, they'll last into July before we have to save the rest for next year!

Looking at the calendar, it's about that time!

Do you know what Saturday is? It’s Opening Day at Grandin Village Farmers Market — the day when the market shifts to an 8 am start time, when markets happen EVERY SATURDAY from now to the end of the year, when the parking lot behind the Roanoke Co+op is filled to brimming and all kinds of local good available for sale.

A few numbers to lift up what this year’s markets will be like.
- 35 vendors have signed on to sell throughout the season.
- The fullest markets will hold about 25 vendors.
- 20 vendors are “flex” vendors: they will be at the market 1st and 3rd weeks or 2nd and 4th weeks. This means every market is different — making for a fun, dynamic shopping experience.
- Last year, Grandin Village Farmers Market averaged 700 customers on a given Saturday. What an amazing turnout for local farmers, food producers, and artisans!
- Most of our vendors have been selling at Grandin Village Farmers Market for years, but there are always fresh faces and food. Follow along this week to see photos and descriptions of LEAP vendors — old and new.

And plan to join us on Saturday, April 6, in the parking lot behind the Roanoke Co+op, from 8 am to noon!
