Running into the long holiday weekend!!!
K9 Nose Work is a kind of scent detection training which begins with your dog searching for treats in boxes.
Nearly any dog can do it, regardless of age, and it doesn’t require much space or any prior training. Allow Holly to demonstrate…
5 minutes of training can go a long way! In this (sped-up) video, you can see as Burt and Holly work on a few basic exercises to increase engagement.
Burt has been doing exercises like this since 8 weeks old, but the brush-up on foundations is always worth while.
Holly is 4 months old and ready to engage with any distraction, so we are working on exercises like this everywhere we go from the front yard and beyond!
Dakota has been on restricted activity, so we’ve been getting creative with his enrichment. Short walks, playing search games, and working on a few new moves all help keep Dakota (and his people) sane while he heals!
Adventures in Puppy Training - Don’t bite the broom!
Like most pups(and many adult dogs), Little Holly’s first impulse is to bark and bite at the broom. In the video below, Holly is learning that when the broom comes out, it’s more rewarding for her to hang out on her bed!
Burt leads by example by demonstrating his “park it” cue and remains on his bed until released. This is a great time for us to brush up on Burt’s training, as well, so he’s getting rewards for staying on his bed, too!
Puppies are little learning sponges, figuring out how to interact with the world around them. At the end of the video, you’ll even see super-star Holly go back to the bed on her own when I set down and then pickup the broom again!
Learning to play is a process!
We’re all excited to have a puppy in the house and Burt has been doing his part to help with all the various duties.
Here’s how play their play has progressed in the first couple of weeks.
Our Weekend Sniff Walk was a little different this morning ❄️
We hope you and your pack are all safe and enjoying the winter weather together!
We hope your pups get everything on their wishlist this year!
Friday Fun!

Young Birch is learning that new things don’t have to be scary with the help of some tasty treats and a little confidence from his buddy, Burt.
It’s Fall! Which means it’s the time of year when fun/scary decorations pop-up on your neighbors’ lawns and freak out your dogs. But never fear; there are some easy tricks to help your dog get more comfortable with these surprises while they earn treats! 👻 🐶 🍭 🍬
In the video below, I take a minute to help Burt desensitize to my latest Halloween purchase.
Thinking about taking your dog to cool off in the water, but not sure about their recall? Or maybe you’re uncertain of how far out they’ll swim?
Try using a long line to test out exploring near the water. A 30-50+ foot long leash should be a good start. We recommend leashes made of BioThane for these aquatic outings because the material doesn’t soak up the water and you can wipe them clean when you’re done!
Safe and happy adventuring 🌊
And here are our resident hooligans, again, reminding you to throw yourself into Friday!
#throwbackThursday to then resident/now retired training partner, Elsa, teaching then puppy/now resident training partner, Burt, how to play❣️
We’ve been so lucky to have both of these dogs as companions and teachers, as have countless dogs in the PNW 🐶
Do you have a dog who gets nervous around skateboards, bikes, garbage cans, or anything on wheels? It’s not uncommong for our furry friends to be a little freaked out at these novelties. But there’s a way to help!
In this video, Bowie and I are working on some counter conditioning and desensitization at the skate park. It involves high value rewards, good timing, and behaviors Bowie already knows and enjoys doing! A good attitude goes a long way too!
