I'm very excited to be learning a new technique, the Masterson Method. Originally developed for horses, much like Tellington TTouch, it's a very gentle touch modality that lends itself well to nervous dogs, tense dogs, and dogs that have a lot of chronic pain. Added to 3rd Degree Reiki and wowza!

Shar Peis, generally, don’t seem very fond of being crated, especially if they can’t see their people. One sweet guy was frantic today; barking and panting with no one around. I can’t take them out of their crates (I would if it was an emergency, obvy) so the next best thing is to spray a little Relax nearby and then sit in Reiki with them until they stop barking and fall sleep. His owner came back about 90 minutes later and proclaimed me a magician. Hahaha!!

Well, this was new-- one of the pups I massage is so sensitive to touch in some areas that she tried to stop me from massaging a surrogate I was using, as I was moving toward those areas. On the panda toy. Girrrrl!

I had such a great week at the Borzoi National Specialty! I worked with several seniors, which are, quite honestly, my very favorite clients. I also helped a rescue reconnect with his body so he stopped trembling, and found an owie on another pup that surprised his owner, but said they'd be taking him to the vet when they got home. One rescue pup was radiating so much anxious heat that I was sweating in a room that everyone else was wearing long sleeves and looking cold and cranky in. Borzoi are such lovely dogs!

Why, hello there! Long time, no post! I'm at the Borzoi National Specialty this week and have had some excellent sessions with several dogs, including a sweet old boy that I had one of the strongest connections with ever. His person came back the next day to report that she has not seen him so lively in a couple of years, and he was keeping up with his younger siblings like the old days. He was a real treasure to work with, and reminded me why I love doing this

So, sometimes the practitioner is the last to practice. I've been having challenges with Scarlett when she and I are on the sofa with the other pups around. This doesn't change regardless of whether she's first or last or even if she's on the sofa at all. Yesterday, tired of sacrificing my shirt sleeves, and occasional knuckles, to her baby shark teeth, I placed my hand on her back and began to breathe slowly and intentionally. She stopped growling and lunging almost immediately. Um. d'oh :)

This is why an 'animal' Reiki session can 'look' so very different from 'real' Reiki. Different strokes for different folks!!

It's not because Animal Reiki practitioners use some other “kind” of energy —Animal Reiki is different because animals have their own preferences and sensitivities! 😸
