They're getting so big already!
Mr Pencil had a lot to say during their 1 Week Old photo session yesterday.
Cassie's puppies are officially 1 week old! There truthfully is not a lot of difference between a litter of 0 week old and a litter of 1 week old puppies, but it is exciting nonetheless. As we move into this week, the puppies remain in the neonatal state. They are essentially just eating and sleeping. They get nail trims every couple of days, small cuddles, their daily weights, ENS & ESI.
We are hoping to see a few milestones within this next week.
*puppies able to crawl onto a bumper bed. Once puppies Can crawl into their bumper bed, we can set up pee pads immediately outside of their nest. This is the foundational start of potty training.
*puppies weigh double their birth weight. Ideally by 10 days of life, we expect puppies to be roughly double their birth weight.
*puppies eyes open. usually somewhere between Days 11 & 14 the eyes will open. This will end the neonatal period & mark the transition to the “transitional period”.
For this past week, we watched these puppies grow & develop pigment. They have received several days of ENS & ESI. Cassie has been an excellent momma, definitely following in her mommy's footsteps.

How do we ensure our puppies are strong, confident, empowered individuals?
Well, there is A LOT that goes into that, but one tiny component is independent play with toys that move & have unpredictable patterns. Wrestling around in the tunnel, balancing on the wobble board & using the slide are super cute activities to watch. but even more importantly, these activities are helping the puppies to learn the world can move & change and it is OK!
