If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for your pet!🥶

7/4/23 Many towns have postponed their fireworks due to the weather, so that means the weeks of fireworks will be even longer. Fireworks, parades and parties can be scary things for your dog. Leave them home and provide a safe, calm space for them.

6/25/22 It's that time of year! We want to say it really LOUD so everyone in the back of the room can hear. Fireworks, parades and parties can be scary things for your dog. Leave them home and provide a safe, calm space for them.

Missing Dogs Mass has seen a very large increase in Stolen Dog cases over the last few months. With much help behind the scenes, some of these stolen dogs have made it home, while others are still out there. Please don't leave your dog in your yard or tied up outside where they can become victim to being stolen, to predators (human and animal), cars, other dogs or even just their own curiosity allowing them to wander off. You think it will never happen to you, but we have many owners who can tell you otherwise. NEVER leave your dog unattended!

As you enjoy the summer temps, please do right by the best friend who depends on you the most. Remember: a pet in a parked car, even with the windows open, can quickly overheat and die on a warm day.

If you see an animal in distress in someone’s car, call 911 immediately and try to find the owner. If you cannot find the owner immediately, and you are still waiting for first responders and the animal seems to be in grave condition, state law allows you to break the car window or make entry to save the pet’s life.

5/24/24 Summertime fun is here, and with that comes parties and fireworks. It's been a super busy year for lost dogs and we aren't into the "fireworks" months yet. Take time to provide a safe space for your dog if you have guests or if they are fearful of fireworks. Check your fences, gates and doors. Make sure your dog has tags on and walk them on leashes. Your dog will feel so much better in a safe, quiet area!

12/31/23 New Year's Eve is here, and with that comes parties and fireworks. It's been a super busy year for lost dogs. Give your dog a safe, quiet space at home tonight! Take a moment over the next day or two, to check your fences, gates and doors. Make sure your dog has tags on and walk them on leashes. We are already hearing fireworks in many parts of the state, be safe now!

Happy, healthy, safe New Year to all!!

6/27/23 Some call it over-reacting, call it whatever you want, but all of us at Missing Dogs Massachusetts want you to do everything you can to keep your dogs safe. Your dog may be ok today, but maybe there will come a time when they won't be. We can't post these warnings enough.
Cold hard facts: This time of year more dogs enter the shelter systems due to being spooked by fireworks, parades, etc. Many go home. Some end up miles and miles away from their homes in shelters. And even worse, some are still out there with families praying for a miracle.
It's facts and statistics that we deal with every single day at Missing Dogs Massachusetts and at many other organizations like ours.
Take steps to keep them safe today!
1. Look over your dog's leash and collar hardware- are clasps, hooks wearing out?
2. What about your pup's ID tags- can you read them? Is your town license that's on their collar up to date?
3. Is your dog microchipped? Is the chip's registration up to date? And did you know, a microchip is only as good as its current up to date registration and a microchip is NOT a GPS device!
4. Walk your dogs early, accompany them into your yard so they can't jump a fence or escape a gate in fear
5. If you have go to out, leave them home and provide them with a quiet, safe space in the home with their favorite treat.

7/17/23 We know it's been raining non- stop, but now let's talk about all things heat!

With the next few days promising to bring extreme heat conditions to our area, please be reminded that with extreme heat comes dangerous conditions!

Leave your Pets Home:
NEVER leave animals in a vehicle unattended for any length of time. Leaving the A/C on is not acceptable. Vehicles and A/C can malfunction and lead to potentially fatal conditions.

Take short walks:
Watch your pets on walks. The pavement heats up and can cause serious injury to your pets paws. Please, if the pavement is too hot for your bare feet, it is too hot for theirs. Leave them home!

Watch your pets for Heatstroke:
If you notice your pets not acting right after time out in the heat seek medical advice/attention immediately.
Signs of Heatstroke in animals
1) Excessive Panting
2) Excessive Drooling
3) Redness of gums
4) Vomiting
5) Diarrhea
6) Loss of consciousness
7) Uncoordinated movement
😎 Collapse and Unresponsiveness

Brachycephalic breeds (short muzzled dogs) are much more susceptible to heatstroke!

Ensure your Pets are provided shelter to escape the elements as well as plenty of water to hydrate. MGL Ch. 140 Sec. 174E prevents animals being left unattended in extreme environmental elements, such as extreme heat, for long periods of time.
Please take care of and look after your pets and as always your neighbors!

If you see something, say something!
