Cobalt Aquatics was established in April of 2011 by a leadership team with over 70 years of combined Aquatic Industry experience. Two hardcore fishgeeks; Les Wilson, a former research biologist and director of marketing for Spectrum Brands/United Pet Group Aquatics, and Randy Parham, a founding member of the Marineland Aquarium

Products sales team and national sales director for Spectrum Brands/United Pet Group got together to form the company. The mission was to create an aquatics company of their own, based on the values instilled in them by mentors of companies past and lessons learned from a lifetime of fishkeeping. Starting with a staff of the 2 owners and a line of probiotic enhanced flake foods made in the USA and a handful of equipment items made at a world renowned aquatics factory in Italy, Cobalt Aquatics’ aim was to bring the highest quality products to market. From those simple beginnings in 2011, Cobalt Aquatics now features a product mix of hundreds of items from flake food to frozen mysis shrimp, to the original MJ pumps, to award winning heaters and the innovative Egg Rockers.

The Banggai cardinalfish lives in shallow, calm waters among coral reefs and seagrass beds of the Banggai Archipelago, Indonesia. The Banggai cardinalfish life span is approximately 2.5 to 3 years with a maximum lifespan of up to 5 years. The species possesses several unique reproductive traits. Like many cardinalfishes, s*x roles are reversed, and males provide parental care, brooding and hatching eggs in their mouths. Males release fully formed juveniles.

Ever kept a Lionfish? Share your experience!

Have you ever thought about keeping a saltwater lionfish in a home aquarium? These hardy fish require careful attention to their specific needs to ensure they thrive in captivity. Here's a guide to help you set up and maintain a suitable environment for a lionfish: 1. **Choose the Right Tank**: Lionfish need ample space to swim and hide. A tank size of at least 100 gallons is recommended for most species, with larger tanks being better for multiple lionfish or larger species. 2. **Aquascape**: Create a suitable environment with plenty of caves, rocks, and crevices for the lionfish to explore and hide in. Use live rock to establish biological filtration and to mimic their natural habitat. 3. **Water Parameters**: Maintain stable water parameters. Ideal conditions include a temperature range of 72-80°F (22-27°C), pH between 8.1-8.4, specific gravity around 1.020-1.025, and ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels as close to zero as possible. 4. **Filtration and Circulation**: Invest in a quality filtration system to keep the water clean and ensure good water circulation. Lionfish are sensitive to high levels of ammonia and nitrites, so regular water changes are essential. 5. **Lighting**: Lionfish are nocturnal and don’t require intense lighting. Provide low to moderate lighting with a natural day-night cycle to mimic their natural environment. 6. **Feeding**: Lionfish are voracious predators and primarily eat live feeder fish, crustaceans, and shrimp in the wild. However, they can be trained to accept frozen or fresh seafood, such as shrimp, squid, and fish fillets, as well as commercially available frozen foods specifically formulated for carnivorous marine fish. These three hardcore fishgeeks; Les Wilson, a former research biologist and director of marketing for Spectrum Brands/United Pet Group Aquatics, Viral Surati, a pioneering high end African cichlid importer, TFH magazine and Spectrum Brands/United Pet Group key accounts manager, and Randy Parham, a founding member of the Marineland Aquarium Products sales team and national sales manager for Spectrum Brands/United Pet Group, got together to form the company.
