A dozen pet surgeries were completed today at our free spay & neuter clinic held at Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter. Thank you to our veterinary pilot @flyingdogtor for organizing our regular free clinics and conducting all of the surgeries today! 🐾🩺👩🏻⚕️💙
This week, Amelia Air founder Dean Heistad, Amelia Air pilot Chris Miller, and local Leesburg pilots Gabe Muller and Tom Saxon have been hard at work organizing 15,000 pounds of supplies so far, including pet food, water and other essentials, for those impacted by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.
Many volunteers are helping to load planes in VA, which then fly down to Concord, NC and transfer supplies to helicopters which can bring the items closer to the front lines of the devastation in Asheville. This effort will be going on at least through the weekend 🙏🏻💙✈️

Amelia Air is celebrating 5️⃣ years of service!
Dean and Petra launched Amelia Air to fly shelter pets to safety in 2019 - so in honor of our fifth anniversary, and our namesake rescue dog Amelia’s 9th birthday, let’s take a look back at what Amelia Air has done so far:
✈️🐾 We’ve flown 1,865 pets from overcrowded shelters to no-kill rescues, where they find the perfect home.
🩺🏥 We’ve expanded into vet care, providing dozens of clinics in California and the South to spay and neuter hundreds of animals for free.
👫👫We’ve amassed thousands of followers and supporters through our sweepstakes and social media, and held events to bring the rescue community together.
📺 🗞️We’ve been featured in NPR, the LA Times, NBC, CBS, and ABC.
🐕🏠 We’ve worked to save animals with 80 amazing shelter and rescue partners.
✈️🧑✈️And we’ve flown a total of 170 rescue missions across the US and Mexico thanks to 25 volunteer pilots.
So from all of us on the Amelia Air Force, thank you for your support. We couldn’t do it without you! 💙🤝🩵

☘️ Just in time for St Patrick’s Day, these two lucky dogs are safe! Luna and Doug, 9-week-old shepherd mix siblings, were given a lift today from Santa Barbara County Animal Services to our friends at LaBelle Foundation! Huge shoutout to our volunteer pilot Paul. He shifted gears quickly and decided to drive to save these pups when it became clear that LA wind would not allow for his planned flight to safely take off. Hero! 🤝✈️🚘🐾

Reducing the population of homeless pets starts with more spay & neuter practices - so after flying numerous animal rescue missions for Amelia Air as a private pilot, Dr. Adi spearheaded Amelia Air’s monthly vet clinic program. We have now partnered with rescues and shelters in both California & Louisiana since 2022, performing hundreds of free spay & neuter surgeries to help curb the pet overpopulation. 🩺🐾
