I had a first session with youngster Ozzy today. He is very calm for a puppy and he learned some new things. His mom was a teacher by trade so has a great grasp on giving good instruction and boundaries. I feel like they are going to come right along.

She's not my daughter or not my dog but I couldn't be more proud if they were. This young lady has worked so hard to train her rescue from Rescue DOG & End of Life Sanctuary to be a full fledged service dog. Her collage focus is sign language and here is a video showing her skills to translate the song at church. Equally impressive is her service dog lying quietly by her side. I LOVE client updates.

New year usually means new puppies for me. Today I met youngster Maggie. Smart little girl and her new mom really understands the benefit of early training.
Every time.
First session of 2024 was with Airedale puppy Buddy. He was adopted from Rescue DOG & End of Life Sanctuary and is doing really well. He's teething now so lots of leave it training and calming excersizes. Such a cutie.
Most know that I foster for Misfit Hounds . Last Sunday we were able to meet up with some of our local adopters at the park. It was great to see these dogs with their forever families . We socialized, learned some new things, and wore out the dogs. Really a fun day.
It's been a busy week. I had a second session with 7 month old Airedale mix (brown dog) Tigger. He's a smart dude with A LOT of energy. He is learning it pays way better to have good behavior. His sister Muppet wanted in on the action so we obliged. Tigers mom says training is magic and has seen a huge difference in just a week. I'm so proud of both of them.

Miss Molly was stellar with her little dance trick. Mama did a great job. Their next step is taking the testing to become a therapy dog team.
Tonight was graduation night for this class. All teams have to use the six weeks to teach a trick using the things they learn. 4 month old Milo shows he listens to his brother's commands too.

Really fun night for class last night. We had a couple call out so just sort of contoured the class toward specialty needs. We traded dogs! Little Molly is leery of men so we had the guys handle her. Big Blue has a little separation anxiety away from his person so he got a new handler. Baby Milo has enough energy for all of us so he got to practice with a different handler too. Good for the dogs to not be afraid of being with someone new in case of emergency and good for the handlers to see the techniques work with all dogs.
I love when parents bring the kids to class. This little guy belongs to his doodle puppy but was enamored with big Blue. I invited him to help me demo sitting and walking with Blue. It was so fun to see them instantly like each other and learn together.
We're on the second week of class. Last night was walking with loose leash. Surprisingly most of the dogs aren't pullers. We have a golden doodle puppy in class that needs help with everything so we used him a lot as a demo dog. Here are a couple of pictures of him and some others in class.
Better late than never, today we delivered a graduation certificate to Shug. His parents were ill and couldn't make it to grad night but he earned his certificate. Congratulations Shug!!!
First session today with almost year old GSD R***r. I wish I had his energy. He's a smart dude and pucked up training fast. Family understands that he needs rules, boundaries, and consistency. See you soon R***r!
We had a great time tonight visiting with the local girl scout troop helping them earn their badge to learn about service dogs. Max did a perfect show and tell on his dual duties as a service dog and therapy dog. Then we took my personal dog Magoo to show them some training tips they can teach their own dogs. Get involved with something. Special thanks to Laurie Piper for the help.
Gunnar's trick for class was supposed to be to run to get the ball and roll with it. He didn't want to do it in the rain and class (I don't blame him). His mom sent this video today to show he can do it. Good boy!
Clovers trick for class was to play dead. She was so dramatic about it keeping one paw in the air.
In order to graduate the parents had to use the training skills they learned throughout the six weeks to teach their dog a new trick and demonstrate to the class. Maggie learned how to dance.
Congratulations to Maggie on graduating our obedience class. She was our smallest dog and had fun meeting Blue our biggest dog.

When you have been around and trained as many dogs as I have you will find some that grab your heart and never let go. You will also turn clients into lifelong friends. This is a picture of me and Nikki. She's wearing this adorbs hat because her new mom bought her cute headwear due to the cruelty her former owners put her through. Her ears had been rubber banded, began to rot so she was tied to a fence and left there. She landed at the shelter I volunteered at and became a volunteer favorite. I told her new mom that I was surprised she could walk because we all just wanted to hold her and love her. We all stayed in touch over the years. I'm sorry to say Nikki crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday with her wonderful family by her side.
This is why I rescue, foster, and adopt. It will change your life. Let it.

I so enjoy getting updates from clients. Here is a snip of very young Emma doing a stellar place. Practice and a little patience really pays off
Do trainers have perfect dogs? No and I love that mine aren't. Personality is what makes dogs fun. I finished baking, put cookies out of his reach but forgot to wash the beater and he took full advantage of. Sometimes life with dogs is about management and not training.
Had a fantastic day with Max. I am training him with simple words that most people would recognize for the action wanted. Stop, go, back will be some that will be important actions needed for him to be effective as a mobility and stability dog.. he's ready working hard to do those things immediately and put actions together. I am so proud of him!
Today we started hand signals with Aspen. We are using a big sweeping motion for the come command and she did very well. She is a fast learner
Also leash work with Max to prepare him for mobility work. I confused him though because I usually walk with dog on left. We needed to work with him on the right. He did very well. See you soon big guy
