PUPDATE: We now have 8 puppies!
🎉🐾 Exciting News from Mama Kacey! 🐾🎉
We’re thrilled to announce that Mama Kacey's adorable babies have finally arrived! 🌟
Kacey went into labor around 11:20 PM last night, and after a long night of anticipation, she welcomed her last puppy into the world around 8:45 AM this morning. She has been such a caring and attentive mama throughout the process. While we sadly lost the first and last puppies, we are overjoyed to share that we have 7 strong and seemingly healthy little furballs! 🐶❤️
Thank you all for your love and support! We can’t wait to share more updates and adorable photos of these precious pups as they grow. Stay tuned! 🌈✨
Let us introduce you to Kacey, one of the two incredible border collies we rescued from Bandera County on February 1st. We’ll share Sophia’s journey with you shortly.
Kacey is the more timid of the two girls, and her journey has been a challenging one. She came from a hoarding and breeding situation that only became known after her owner passed away, leaving her and her sister in a world filled with uncertainty. Kacey is deeply scared and understandably so; she’s endured countless litters and the trauma that comes with such an environment. The simple act of putting on a leash sends her into a panic, as she associates it with the lack of choice and control she has experienced.
Yet, beneath her layers of fear lies a sweet and loving soul just waiting to shine. Kacey’s gentle demeanor shows that she yearns for connection and comfort, and we are committed to helping her overcome her anxiety. With time, patience, and a nurturing environment, we believe that Kacey will find the courage to embrace life and reveal the vibrant, joyful spirit we know is hiding inside her. We eagerly await the day she blossoms into the confident companion she deserves to be.
Tesha's story is a tough one, but it’s also a story of hope and healing. She came into this world facing so many challenges—neglected and living in awful conditions. She’s been through a lot, often torn apart by dogs, beaten, starved, BRED. Despite being a mother to many, Tesha hardly received any love or nurturing in return.
When KPA! Rescue Coordinator Karen Johnson reached out to us to evaluate Tesha, we quickly understood why. She was understandably fearful, reacting with panic to anyone who got too close. Just the sound of a man’s voice would send her into a tailspin. At one point, she was so overwhelmed that she surrendered, giving up hope altogether. But we knew we had to try and give her a chance.
Fast forward one month since she arrived at TRUAA, and the change in Tesha has been amazing. She’s started to embrace the kindness around her. Now, she loves belly rubs, enjoys being hugged, and can’t get enough ear scratches and kisses. She even looks forward to her favorite “cookie treats” and is starting to play with toys, interacting with our wonderful volunteers at her own pace.
Today, we celebrated another big step—Tesha got spayed! She went to the vet’s office and came back without any signs of fear or reactivity toward the staff. It’s incredible to see how far she’s come.
We’re only one month into this journey, and although she still has Heartworm treatment ahead of her, we’re filled with hope. Each day brings new progress, and it’s a beautiful reminder that love and patience can work wonders.
Tesha is proof that with a little kindness, even the most scared hearts can learn to trust again. We’re so grateful to be part of her journey—rescue, rehabilitate, and repeat. Together, we’re helping Tesha find the love and happiness she truly deserves.
Update on Dixon: A Gentle Giant's Transformation!
We are thrilled to share the latest progress on our sweet boy, Dixon! 🐾❤️ Just a few months ago, he came to us as a shut-down, frightened pup, uncertain of his new surroundings and the love he so desperately needed. Thanks to the incredible efforts of our rescue team and supporters, Dixon has truly blossomed into the gentle giant we always knew was inside him!
Dixon is now the ultimate cuddle bug! He adores snuggling up with blankets and beds, and he has developed a special fondness for stuffed toys. You can often find him happily lounging around, soaking up all the love and affection he can get.
“Treats? Yes, please! I’ll do anything for a tasty snack!” 🍖
He has become a social butterfly, getting along wonderfully with dogs, cats, and people alike. While he may be a tad shy at first, once he warms up to you, he transforms into the biggest, mushiest baby you could ever hope to meet!
We can hug all over him, and he just leans in, soaking up the comfort and love. It’s truly heartwarming to see how far he’s come from that scared pup we first met. Dixon is not just a rescue; he’s a reminder of the resilience and capacity for love that every dog has inside them.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Dixon on his journey. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this sweet boy! If you’re looking for a furry friend who will fill your life with warmth and cuddles, Dixon is your guy! 💖✨
Video of Dixon being spoiled rotten after his vet appointment and neuter yesterday!
A little over a month ago, Zoey’s mom reached out to us for help. Zoey had been adopted from another rescue earlier this year, but she was very fearful and reactive to people, particularly men, including her own dad. Whenever she saw a leash, she would hyperventilate, roll like an alligator, and go limp. She was living in a constant state of fear and stress over seemingly minor things. Activities outside the home, having guests, and going for walks felt like a distant dream when we first met! But as in all fairytales, dreams can come true!
After four weeks of dedicated work with Zoey, she now welcomes guests with confidence, shows affection to her dad, and no longer reacts fearfully to the little things. And guess what? She’s even going on family walks now! We are incredibly proud of Zoey for overcoming what once felt so daunting to her. We also want to express our gratitude to her parents for trusting us to assist with her training and for incorporating what they learned into their daily routines!
Today we did a Public Access Training Session with Beau. This is Beaus third session with us. Beau came to us for help with his people manners, his interactions with other dogs, how to greet verses jumping and lastly how to focus, listen and settle with distractions.
We had quite the stimulation today, we interacted with people, other dogs, a busy store and much more.
We worked with Beau on relaxing and staying out while shopping or interacting with another person etc.
For his first public session, he truly did outstanding!
Featuring trainee Beau (lab), Dude the doodle is spending the night here with us and he assisted in socialization and counter conditioning!!
Beau is making strides after 2 sessions 👏
A glimpse of a TRUAA dogs day 😊
We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the transformation we have witnessed in Millie. When she first arrived at TRUAA, she was a shell of a dog, broken and lost from years of neglect. But with love, patience, and dedication, she has blossomed into a happy and carefree pup.
Seeing Millie run around in her new home, filled with joy and freedom, brings tears to our eyes. It is a testament to the power of resilience and the healing capacity of love. She has learned to trust again, to play, to be a dog in the truest sense of the word.
Millie's story is a reminder of the importance of compassion and empathy towards all living beings.

In this video, there are clips of dogs who have been trained through TRUAA. Not only does this showcase what they’ve learned, but it also shows that their owners are taking the time to use the knowledge given to them to build and provide a better life experience with their beloved dogs. We are proud of our pet parents for being their dogs advocate!
Advocating for your dog through training is crucial for their overall well-being and quality of life. Trained dogs have the freedom to accompany their owners to various places and are less likely to exhibit destructive behavior. Training also strengthens the bond between a dog and their owner, providing a sense of security and confidence for the dog. Additionally, trained dogs are more likely to have healthier mindsets and better cope with challenges. By investing time and effort into training, you are not only improving your dog's behavior but also enhancing your relationship and ensuring a fulfilling life for your furry friend. Be a responsible pet parent and advocate for your dog by prioritizing their training and overall well-being.
