As our more versatile microgreen, pea shoots make a great addition to any salad or sandwich, but can also be gently cooked. They make a great garnish for your soup or pizza, and are a fresh and tasty green to finish off your rice, quinoa, or stir fry!

Get them fresh and ready to eat at any of our markets:

Sunflower shoots post-harvest getting washed before being dried and bagged for your convenience!

As with the pea shoots, these are great as salad toppers and sandwich stuffers, but they’re also great for snacking all on their own! Since they’re packed with protein, they also make an excellent addition to smoothies!

(Unlike the pea shoots that can be lightly cooked, our sunnies prefer to stay raw.)

Grab a bag next time you see us and you’ll be hooked! đŸŒ±

Next time you see us, grab yourself some of these beauties! They’re great as salad toppers and sandwich stuffers, but they can also be lightly cooked! Throw them in a stir fry at the end or garnish your soups with them!

As with all of our greens they’re washed and ready to eat straight from the bag.

“Are your greens washed?”

If you follow us pretty closely, you’ve probably seen snippets of strawberries here and there but we’ve never officially addressed them. Yes, we have strawberries!

Our strawberries are grown with extreme care and attention. We aim to provide the freshest and most flavorful berries in town - in state, really - and we have spent a lot of time and energy to do so.

Our price reflects the labor and love put into these berries and as much as we realize there’s a bit of sticker shock, know that we recognize and appreciate your understanding to meet the value they are worth.

Currently, they’re only available in limited capacity at the 15th & Cordova Market on Saturdays and at the Sunday Fresh Market on Sundays. Get there early to guarantee getting them!

That being said, now that they are producing more heavily, we may start offering mid-week pick-up options. Stay tuned!

We appreciate your ongoing support and love any and all feedback! 🍓

If you’ve ever requested “sprouts” from us at our markets, we’ve probably replied by using the term “shoots” instead. Though sprouts and shoots are similar, they are, technically speaking, different!

One difference is that sprouts contain either the seeds, roots, or both, whereas shoots are cut above the root line and seeds. By eliminating the seeds and roots there is less of a chance for the finished product to carry bacteria.

Sprouts are generally smaller and are exactly what they sound like: just-sprouted plants. Shoots are larger as they’re grown a little longer. While both are nutritious, the “shoot” stage is usually when the plant needs the most nutrients, making it the most nutrient-dense option for consumption!

Another difference is the way they are grown. Sprouts generally only require water and little to no light to grow, whereas shoots need some sort of growing medium (like soil or other media) and more light.

Overall, though very similar, we’ve chosen shoots over sprouts to provide the cleanest and most nutrient-rich product we can! đŸŒ±

We spoke too soon with our last post.

Despite continued efforts and constant precautions, both Frank and Cathy have unfortunately tested positive for COVID. Although we both feel okay, we don’t want to expose our customers.

To combat this, Cathy will be skipping the Spenard Market this week. However, Frank will still be at the Anchorage Farmer’s Market. He will remain in his truck within sight of his booth with his mask on. All products will be on the table and will be periodically restocked when necessary. There will be a cash drop bucket for customers to use and we ask that you help yourselves to products this week.

We will label products and prices as clearly as possible, but Frank is happy to roll down his window or answer phone calls from his truck for any questions or concerns.

We wanted to make this market work, despite the circumstances, and we appreciate your understanding, flexibility, and continued support.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns at any time. We can be reached on Instagram, by phone (907) 244-7327, or by email ([email protected]).

Did you know that all of our products are washed and dried before being bagged and sold to you?

This bubble wash tub is our best friend when it comes to washing 50lbs of lettuce! đŸ„Ź

Come get your ready-to-eat products at either market location tomorrow! You’ll find us at the on the corner of 15th & Cordova and also at the in the Chilkoot Charlie’s parking lot under the windmill!

Starting tomorrow, we will have two different options for our salad mix: organic or hydroponic. Here are the main differences:

Organic will be more vibrant in color and crunchier, but slightly more bitter and will have a higher potential to contain debris as it is from outside. It will still be washed, but simply won’t be as clean as our hydroponic mix.

Hydroponic, while slightly less colorful and crunchy, will also be less bitter and be cleaner as a whole.

Both will continue to sell at our $5 price point, but the organic mix will be sold in 5oz portions while the hydroponic mix will be sold in 6oz portions.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Our process for our spinach and arugula:

After harvesting a bed, we first go through and flame it. This helps break down the organic material.

After flaming, we lay down a layer of compost and rake the length of the bed to evenly disperse the compost.

Then we come through with a broad fork to lift and aerate the soil with as little disturbance as possible to the microbiology.

Another raking evens out the bed and creates a consistent tilth. Over the next 2-3 days, we’ll continue to flame and rake to prepare a sterile seedbed.

The far two beds have already gone through this process and are ready for the next step.

Using our and Space Spinach seeds, we then plant the beds and finish everything up with a good watering.
