My name is Amy and my family and I are boutique pet breeders on our hobby farm in Central Minnesota. (That means that we are not a “puppy mill” and we don’t continually have puppies available.) I grew up with dogs and other animals, and my family and I enjoy sharing the joy of pets with others. They are an integral part of our family and we hope they will be to yours!
We currently have four Bernese Mountain Dogs and two Coton de Tulears. We fell in love with both of these breeds because they are friendly and fun-loving nature and the fact that they just love to be by our side. They love to go for car rides and travel too! When we do breed we strive to breed to the standards outlined by the AKC and UKC while taking into consideration the historic standards for each breed. Temperament is also of the utmost importance. If you haven’t done any research on these breeds yet - please do - they both have a very interesting history. We aim to have a life-long connection with our customers. It brings us great joy to watch our puppies grow up and bring joy to their new families. Please check out our reviews from previous customers. Our page is new so we hope that our puppy families will help us out and post comments and reviews. If you are considering getting a puppy from us we are happy to provide personal references.
About Our Bernese Mountain Dog Puppies We breed and sell adorable Berner puppies that are healthy and well socialized. They are usually born in our living room and get tons of attention from visitors, our children, grandkids, other dogs, and our other pets. The pups have outdoor time as weather permits and once the pups have had their first shots we begin to take them on short car trips. Our dogs LOVE to go for car rides and we take them with as often as we can.
A Bernese Mountain Dog may be for you if you are looking for a devoted companion who is super friendly and ready to play when you are. They are great with other pets, adults and children. (Although ANY pet should not be left unsupervised with very young children or children who are unfamiliar with dogs.) They do not usually bark very much and they don’t make much of a guard dog because they just want to be friends with everyone. Whether they are following you around the yard, or laying at your feet, they love to be with you as much as possible. If you sit on the floor in our house you will find a giant Berner trying to lay in your lap! They shed more or less depending on the amount of grooming they receive, but they definitely do shed. Like many large breeds they don’t have a very long life span. 8 to 10 years is usually the best you can hope for but our first Berner is 11 1/2 and going strong. I can promise you though - every day with a Berner is a joy!
All of our adult dogs are registered with the AKC (American Kennel Club). We register each litter once they are born and as a new puppy owner it is your option to finalize your puppies registration with the AKC.
Puppycare Protocol
I don’t believe in taking a new litter of puppies to the Vet before their first vaccination unless their are some health concerns so I give the first “Canine Spectra 5” vaccine which begins their immunization against Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus. You will need to continue the vaccine series as you and your Vet see fit. After much research, life experience and discussion with an amazing Holistic Vet, we ere on the side of fewer vaccines than rather than more: the first round of basic puppy vaccines and Rabies vaccine only. Instead of re immunizing every year we try to provide the best nutrition that we can via high quality dog food, fish oil, and a plant enzyme/probiotic to boost our dogs immune system so they can fight off any bad stuff that comes their way. We feed our puppies Fromm for large breed Puppies - it’s in a bright blue colored bag. You can order it from chewy.com or you can find it in some specialty pet food stores. It’s more expensive that anything you can find at Walmart but it’s excellent quality and you will have less puppy dodo to pick up! You will need to do your own research and discuss vaccinations and feeding with your Vet. I am not a Vet. Berners are typically very easy to potty train and our puppies get started by following their Mom outside when she potties.
Last: No, we typically do not brush our dogs teeth. Our dogs do not get rawhide chewies - they get all natural Bully Sticks. Once a pup is about 6 months old old I give them a raw beef knucklebone once a month or so. ALWAYS RAW! This does a wonderful job of keeping their teeth clean. As mentioned earlier - I am not a VET - please make your own decisions after discussing with your Vet. I just know what I am comfortable with, and what works for our us and our pets.
In Conclusion
Please let me know if you have questions about our dogs or your new puppy. If I don’t have a good answer I can refer you to someone who does!
