Halloween is full of candy, scary decorations, and costumes. While some dogs don’t have any issues with Halloween, plenty do!
Exposure and positive socialization to Halloween decor is key. Starting at a young age is best! Lowe’s and Home Depot have great set ups for training. Motivate your dog if they are fearful.
Keep candy up high where your dog can’t help themselves to some. Sugar isn’t healthy for dogs and some candy can be toxic.
Costumes can be very intimidating to dogs and aren’t something they are familiar with on a daily basis. If you see your dog is uncomfortable or fearful put him/her in a crate or away from the front door with all of the trick or treating activity. Also, if your dog is uncomfortable wearing a costume, take it off! Dogs can exhibit certain negative behaviors that they normally wouldn’t when uncomfortable.
Contact us if you are experiencing any unwanted behaviors or fearfulness so we can help! 🐾🎃👻

Obedience training gives you the ability to communicate to your dog in a way that your dog understands. Once this line of communication is established you can then begin to teach your dog all kinds of new things like paddle boarding!
Watch our video with Fathom K9 trainer, Lauren, to see some beginning steps on how to transition your dog to the paddle board. It’s important that your dog has learned some basic obedience commands before beginning. Commands used in this video include “down-stay,” “sit-stay,” “place,” and a release command (“break”).
Your dog should be comfortable with getting on and off the board before putting the board into the water. Breaking the task down into smaller steps allows for effective and successful training. Keep in mind that every dog learns at a different pace. If the paddle board makes your dog nervous you will need to take some time to work on motivating and rewarding your dog for going on and off of the board until the nervousness goes away.
Make these training sessions as fun and upbeat as possible. Praise your dog for engaging and learning this new activity and before you know it you will be paddling with your pup by the end of summer!
Stay tuned for more steps on transitioning your dog to the water! ☀️💦🐾
