Meet Miss. Maple! She is 6 months old and ready to follow in her brother, Moose’s, footsteps by completing our Intermediate obedience program.
Her owner would like for her to walk nicely on a leash with Moose, to stop barking when not desired, and to be a well-mannered, confident dog! We look forward to watching her progress as she boards with us over the next several weeks. 🐾

Does your dog have anxiety or get anxious in certain situations? We have some simple tips that can have a huge impact on your dog’s anxiety.
Your interaction with your dog while anxious is key! Talking to or petting your dog while anxious reinforces the anxiety. Do not allow your dog to whine and walk around aimlessly. Instead give your dog direction by using their obedience commands. This redirects their focus to the command which diminishes the anxiety.
What is your interaction like with your dog when you come home? Is it full of excited energy?? If so, STOP. Not only are you encouraging poor manners while greeting which carries over to anyone who comes in your door, but it also overstimulates your dog which causes him/her to become anxious. Instead encourage calmness by petting your dog once he/she is in a relaxed state.

Does your dog know the “place” command?
Place is a great & fun command to teach your dog! We teach dogs to go to a place mat where they can do whatever they want while on the mat. Essentially it’s a crate without walls. You get control over your dog’s whereabouts while your dog gets more freedom than a down or sit stay. We also encourage giving your dog treats and fun chew toys while on the place mat. Place should be a positive place for your dog to hang out.
The MOST important function of the place command is that it provides mental stimulation which so many dogs are lacking. Adequate amounts of mental stimulation not only provides a calmer and more content dog but it also reduces unwanted behaviors!

There are so many dogs who are given death sentences in shelters due to poor behavior and lack of structure. We submerge these dogs into our obedience and behavior programs which allow them to be adopted into a forever home. The keyword is "forever." Our top priority is making sure dog owners are properly educated and have the guidance necessary to make their adoption successful long term. We assist them every step of the way. We have a training update on the adorable, Ralphie! He graduated from Puppy Preschool this past fall and is now currently enrolled in our Intermediate obedience program. Ralphie has mastered on leash training and is currently working on off leash commands. Hannah and Ralphie are working hard and doing a great job!
As we begin to wrap up this year’s board & train dogs, we reflect back on all of the amazing dogs we have had the opportunity to train and work with this year. We have seen so many transformations and love watching our client’s bond with their dog grow stronger. Rosie went home this week so she could be with her family for the holidays. Ralphie’s First Bath! 🛁 If you want grooming tasks to be a breeze then you have to start young! It’s important to incorporate weekly brushings, baths, and nail trims into your routine with your puppy. The more you expose your puppy to these tasks the more acclimated and tolerant he/she will become. 🫧

Check out Nero’s Elite Obedience Video! Our Elite program requires more focus and attention from the dog. We take the leash away completely by teaching the dog an off leash heel. We add in two more advanced commands as well, sit & down in motion. Once the dog is proficient in these commands we focus on distractions. If your dog has completed our Intermediate program then he/she may be eligible for Elite. Contact your trainer to find out if our Elite program would be a good fit for your dog! 🐾

Terrified of us, staff, noises, pretty much anything that moved. We took our time with her. Built trust and a bond. Every day we watched her tail come unglued from her belly and slowly begin to wag. This is just the beginning of her journey and we are not finished! We have more public exposure planned to continue increasing her trust with people. Check out that tail wag in the video below! 🐾

Start your Monday off right by making a difference! Today, marks another week of training with this sweet girl, Stella. This video may not look like much but to us it means increased confidence, trust, and progress. Stella is very skittish of new people. When we first started her training it was a challenge to put a leash on her and to get her to walk with us due to her being so afraid. We have taken the time to build trust which in return stopped the trembling and gave us a tail wag! We can’t wait to see what another week of training is going to do for this girl’s overall confidence! 🐾
