We're excited to announce a significant step in our journey to inspire compassion for our planet: Heartland will install solar arrays on our main barn, the bird barn, and our large storage pole barn. ☀️ This project will substantially reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, aligning with our strategic priority to respect and restore our natural environment.

These solar installations are projected to save approximately $9,190 annually in energy costs, with savings expected to increase to over $16,564 by year 25 — a total of around $180,791 in savings. And, by virtually eliminating our electric bills, leveraging subsidies and smart financing, this project incurs no additional net costs to Heartland, ensuring that our commitment to sustainability is achieved without financial burden. 💛

From our ED, Jen: ‘Every once in a while, you open the mail and it’s not for you — it’s for Frankie. So I had to walk it over and deliver it to the correct recipient who enjoyed the kind words right before bed.’ 🥰

We love fan mail as much as the residents do! And Frankie may have received some jealous looks while Jen showed him his special letter. 💌 👀

We're heartbroken to announce the passing of two beloved sheep residents: our girls Flower and Joan. 💔 We're taking solace in knowing we had the honor of caring for and loving them all of these years, and giving them the sanctuary life that every animal deserves. Cheers to an incredible week of Compassionate Caretakers, our amazing humane ed program for 5-7 year olds. 💚 Highlights included spending time in the North pasture with the animals, making trading cards with our residents’ pics/info, drawing portraits of the animals, and exploring our nature trail. 🌳 We also welcomed an amazing guest speaker from 🌎 What a week!
