One Starfish Rehoming Connections We are a non-profit organization offering networking and hands-on assistance to dog owners and potent

We are a very small rescue organization, but we have a BIG heart--especially when it comes to elderly and special medical needs dogs! We pride ourselves on our high ethical standards and honesty and we
value our reputation in the rescue/shelter community as well as with our growing family of adopters. Our commitment to the animals has always been--and will continue to be--our guiding light. Our r

escue and sanctuary/hospice dogs are our "children", and they live with us in our home. All the work is done by just the two of us (Marti and Jim). We have no "staff" or outside volunteers, and we spend 24 hours a day--and every extra penny of our own money--to keep our dogs healthy and happy. At any one time we have between five and eight rescue dogs available for adoption, plus fifteen or more special medical needs dogs living with us in our Sugarcandy Mountain Sanctuary. We feed all of our dogs the best quality food and they receive excellent vet care--including regular check ups, dentals, bloodwork, specialty surgeries, traditional medications (and even herbal supplements, Chinese herbs, and acupuncture!). We do not receive any government assistance, subsidies, or funding from any other sources. Our food and vet bills run between $3000 and $5000 each month, but our monthly donations--at this point in time--total just a few hundred dollars. Clearly, to be self-sustaining, One Starfish needs your financial support!

During our Shelter Share effort, we have collected many dog coats but most of the coats we've collected are for small dogs.

We have posted on our neighboring FB group pages that we have small (and medium size) dog coats available for anyone who needs them, but have only received requests from four or five pet owners (in our area).

We still have a box of SEVERAL DOZEN really nice small, warm dog coats. And I know there are dogs out there needing a coat, but we can't figure out how to reach them.

Does anyone have a suggestion re: how we could make these coats available to a wider audience? If so, please PM me as I may not see your post here on this page.

Several years ago we collected bandanas to send to shelters and rescues who wanted to help make their dogs (specifically the black dogs) look more attractive in a photo.
Over the years, though, photo shop has pretty much made "sprucing up a photo" easier (and less time consuming) than tying a bandana on a dog.
So. our bandana program has kind of fizzled and I'm wondering if anyone out there needs bandanas. If so, please PM me.
I'm going to be giving the rest of our bandanas to a senior center whose elderly ladies make quilts from small colorful pieces of fabric. So...last call for a bandana (or a dozen)....Rather than responding here, PLEASE PM ME (Marti Houge).

He only has one question now...
"Is that a leaf...or is it p**p?"

Each year we like to mail our holiday rescue newsletter to our supporters and adopters. (We're trying to keep the post office in business. HA HA HA!)
If you haven't received one of our newsletters in the past but would like us to send you one, please PM me and I'll put you on our newsletter mailing list.

An appeal that is always useful to spread and remember...
Temperatures are changing, nights and days are starting to get colder outside, and cats living on the streets are looking for a warm place to shelter.
Touch the hood, slightly kick the tires and honk before starting the car!
Take a minute of your time , but it's worth it, you could save a life!

Is anyone out there available to short-term foster (or adopt) a very sweet neutered male Beagle/Heeler mix guy? He is four years old, weighs about 35 lbs. (he hasn't missed many meals), is housebroken, healthy, good with other dogs, and is a real people lover. He is NOT a big barker or howler, and he spends most of his days sleeping in the apartment where he lives now.

Please PM me if you know someone who might be interested in Stanley. Thanks so much!

We have some good news about our semi-feral pups (Bonnie and Clyde) that we took in early this summer. They finally have turned the corner and are not so fearful, but they still need a lot of work.
We were told by a professional veterinary canine behaviorist that it would be best not to separate them, but....we are open to that possibility (depending on the circumstances) because it would be easier to work with just one of the pups rather than with both.
That being said, the rescue in Canada who was going to take both pups won't be taking them after all. And I am having a senior moment.... Who--in this group--had previously offered to take ONE of the pups, but only after one of their fosters had space. Would that person please contact me again so that we can chat?

My rescue friend Elizabeth--who lives in the badly flooded are of Texas northeast of Houston--is desperately in need of Pedigree dry and canned food for her dogs. Our own rescue is struggling right now and we can't afford to help her, but I'm wondering if someone out there could either send her some Pedigree (I can provide her shipping information) or possibly make a small donation to help her with dog food. PLEASE.... PM me if you can help.

I did something that I need help with--and no, it doesn't have anything to do with dog rescue, believe it or not.

Jim and I were browsing at a local St. Vincent's store (looking for pet-related items that we might offer when we have our next fundraiser) and I came across a 1948 Concord, North Carolina high school yearbook.....

Heaven only knows how it ended up in a St. Vincent's store in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin but....I have a soft spot in my heart for memorabilia, and it occurred to me that SOMEONE would love to have this yearbook.

It makes me sad to look at all the pictures of young and hopeful faces in this yearbook, since I'm guessing most (if not all) of these students and teachers have passed away. But....I was thinking that either the Historical Society in Concord--or maybe a grandchild of one of the people in this yearbook--would treasure this item.

So....I sprung for the price of $5.50, in hopes of receiving YOUR helpful suggestions in what I should do with this hidden treasure.

Any ideas?
